Jeremy Weintraub Description
Jeremy Weintraub, a vintner with a profound passion for the land, joined Adelaida Winery in 2012, injecting the estate with his wealth of experience and a deep respect for the terroir. His winemaking philosophy is beautifully simple: create wines that echo their origins, embodying intensity, fragrance, and longevity, while reflecting the unique character of the vineyards that nurture them.
Weintraub’s role at Adelaida is that of a steward, carefully selecting the sites where vines thrive best, nurturing them to produce exceptional grapes that form the foundation of outstanding wines. Elaine Brown of Hawk Wakawaka Wine Reviews encapsulates his approach as a “quest for intimacy with the vineyard rooted in an eye towards refinement.”
Before Adelaida, Jeremy honed his craft at Napa Valley’s Seavey Vineyard, earning acclaim and numerous 95+ point scores for his creations. What’s intriguing about Weintraub’s journey is its unconventional path, transitioning from economic and political writing in Washington, DC to becoming a winemaker. He pursued a Master’s in Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, sponsored by a Wine Spectator scholarship, and gained invaluable experience working with renowned grapes across various regions, from the U.S. coasts to New Zealand’s Central Otago and Tuscany’s Antinori Tenuta Tinagnello winery.
Jeremy’s love for the land is evident not just in his wines but also in his commitment to conservation. He has implemented innovative dry-farming techniques, embraced localized evapotranspiration technology for grapevine watering, and championed natural farming methods. This dedication mirrors Adelaida’s founding principles, where the land’s intrinsic beauty is allowed to shine with minimal external intervention, a vision shared by Don Van Steenwyk.
What sets Jeremy Weintraub apart is his unwavering connection to Adelaida’s diverse vineyards. He doesn’t impose a fixed winemaking style but rather adapts dynamically, listening attentively to the vineyard and the nuances of each vintage. Through his skilled hands and open-minded approach, Jeremy Weintraub continues to craft wines that are not just beverages but stories of the land they call home.
