Wine Description
Violet, lavender and boysenberry aromas emerge from the glass, along with cherry, plum, dried herbs and fennel seed. A silky entry, lush body and creamy notes on the finish are juxtaposed by lively acidity, bringing a beautiful tension to the wine. This is a wonderfully complete Pinot Noir, a combination of focus and finesse, and it has a subtle power that will carry this vintage for many years.
We hand-picked each block and delivered firm, cool clusters to the winery before sunrise. We then hand-sorted the fruit and reserved 4% for whole-cluster fermentation. The remainder of the fruit was destemmed before transferring to tank, where five to seven days of cold maceration preceded more than two weeks of 100% native yeast fermentation. The free run wine was transferred to 53% new French oak barrels for 15 months of aging.

Jaime West –
This wine changed dramatically (and quickly) from the first taste. Slightly translucent cherry red in color. A nose of ripe cherries and plums — wait, is this pinot or Cab? Plush fruit on the palate, cherries, blackberries, hint of strawberry. Soft tannins but still retaining a little bite. Nice acidity, excellent balance. Finishes moderately long and gentle with cherry and strawberry notes and a bit of spice. The first impression is a plush style that will be enjoyable now and for a few years, but not a candidate for extended cellaring. Not overly complex, like a Syrah wannabe. But only a short time in the glass changes that impression. The fruit becomes softer and more strawberry. Much more elegant. The tannins sharpen a bit becoming fine. Finishes long and bright with cherry, anise and strawberry. Becomes more structured. If you like following changes in the glass this will be fascinating. However, others may wish to consider a splash decant right before service or opening it 30 minutes early. Or just wait a year. Drink next 5 to 8 years, perhaps longer.
Richard Hulse –
Ruby red color. Aromas of cherry and some spice. Bright red fruits, medium body and finish. Have more bottles of this so decided to try one now, this will probably benefit with a few more years, but very approachable now.
Terry Ryan –
Delicious fruit, lots of complexity for a medium-bodied pinot. Lives up to the hype/price point.

Der Notiz von Charlie C. vom18.11.21 ist eigentlich nicht hinzuzufügen. Ein fruchtbetonter Pinot Noir mit herrlicher Balance und Suchtpotential…
Raymond Himes –
Almost etheral on day one, comparable to Morlet PN @$30 cheaper. Beautful floral notes, high structure and complexity, very smoth, long finish. One of the best CA PNs. Drank over 6 hours day 1, opened up nicely after 2 hours. Big disappointment on day 2. Flat and somewhat lifeless but still drinkable. Glad I had little left in the bottle. A short decant you you will be well rewarded. Decent QPR @$80.
WS –
Svelte and richly spiced, with plush, concentrated flavors of dark fruit and berries swathed with ripe acidity. Loamy hints to the Asian spice accents, with lots of chocolaty nuances on the finish.
WE –
Outstanding in muscular, dark fruit tones, this wine offers a substantial length and breadth of complexity. Weighty, it expands on the palate to reveal firm tannins and powerful lushness. The grapes were grown at a 1,100-foot elevation in cool, coastal conditions.

The 2019 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard comes from all 11 clones grown on the Wayfarer property. Medium ruby-purple in color, it has broody aromas of blood orange, iron, rhubarb and cranberry sauce with notes of dusty earth and dried herbs. The palate manages incredible intensity, lift and expansive flavor layers with a very long, juicy finish that continually calls you in for another sip!
JD –
The 2019 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard is one of the more approachable Pinots in the lineup, yet smart money will still give bottles a handful of years in the cellar. Spiced cherries, mulberries, spicy oak, violets, and orange blossom all define the aromatics, and it’s medium-bodied, with a round, expansive texture, more velvety tannins, and a great finish.
JS –
A lovely nose of ripe red fruit and berries with notes of dried flowers as well. Full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and bright acidity. There is a pleasant bitterness on the palate, which helps to ground the bright fruit. Very tasty. Drink now or hold.
VIN –
The 2019 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard is a dark, sumptuous wine. Ripe dark, cherry, plum, spice, leather, incense and a kiss of French oak flesh out in a supple lush Pinot. Even in the early going, the 2019 is quite open and easy to drink. Silky tannins wrap around the plush, inviting finish. This is an especially succulent style. The 2019 has a bit more stem inclusion than in the past.
