Embark on a sensory journey with Michele Chiarlo Cipressi 2019, masterfully crafted by winemaker Stefano Chiarlo. This Barbera, rooted in the picturesque vineyards of Castelnuovo Calcea – Mombercelli, unveils a testament to the 2019 vintage’s exceptional conditions.

The autumn-winter season set the stage with ample rain and snow, building a crucial water reserve for the summer. A mild and dry February-March, followed by abundant April-May rains, resulted in balanced vine vegetation. The hot and dry May-June enhanced flavors, leading to a gradual ripening in July. The outcome? A classic vintage with fewer grapes of exceptional quality.

Pouring a bright ruby red, the wine exudes clarity and elegance on the nose. Aromas of violet, blackberries, raspberries, and spicy sweet notes tantalize the senses. On the palate, it unfolds as a full, well-structured symphony, harmoniously balancing fresh softness and a savory, round finish.

Wine critics laud this Barbera, earning it 93 points from Wine Enthusiast, praising its black cherry and plum aromas. Falstaff awards 93 points, highlighting its juicy dark cherry and subtle savory notes. VertdeVin rates it 89 points, emphasizing its fruity and juicy character with a touch of minerality. Wine Spectator applauds its tightly wound, racy profile, showcasing blackberry and violet flavors.

Pair this impressive Barbera with cured meats, pasta with meat sauce, risotto, fillet, guinea fowl, or medium-aged goat cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C to savor the wine’s complexity. Michele Chiarlo’s 2019 Nizza Cipressi Barbera stands as a benchmark, a true embodiment of the unique terroir and meticulous craftsmanship.

"This dense red is very tightly wound and racy, revealing blackberry and violet flavors that show accents of tamarind and roasted almond. Still a bit compact on the finish."

"The Michele Chiarlo 2019 Nizza Cipressi is a generous and abundant expression of Barbera with an inky dark color. The bouquet reveals blackberry, blackcurrant and lots of rich primary fruit. Cipressi is fermented in steel and aged in large oak casks for one year. The wine's texture is soft and plush, and you get that little kick of acidity that is characteristic of this versatile grape."

"Plenty of energetic blackberry character to this 100% barbera, with a slightly steely edge growing through the palate. Bright acidity and minimal tannin. This is very much in-your-face, but it’s not aggressive."

"Bright, intense ruby with a subtle purple shimmer. On the nose it is clear and open, with lots of juicy dark cherry and subtle savoury notes in the background. Very fine on the palate, polished, with finely meshed tannins plus fine fruit expression. The wine has a long finish and good traction."
