Hoopes Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Napa Valley’ 2018 is a true gem from Hoopes Vineyards, skillfully crafted by winemaker Aaron Pott. This wine embodies elegance and depth, showcasing a mesmerizing array of flavors that are sure to delight the senses.

In the glass, this Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep, garnet-red color, enticing you with its rich appearance. On the nose, a symphony of inviting aromas unfolds, with prominent notes of black licorice and nutmeg dancing gracefully. Subtle hints of freshly split vanilla bean add an enticing touch of sweetness.

The first sip is met with a perfect balance of acidity and a soft, velvety texture that glides effortlessly over the palate. Dark fruits dominate the initial taste, with luscious plum and hints of fennel creating a delightful harmony. As the journey continues, intricate layers of complexity emerge. Roasted mushrooms and soy lend earthy nuances, while dried cherries offer a touch of sweet indulgence.

This blend, primarily composed of 98.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by 1% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec, showcases the artistry and mastery of the winemaker. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has received high praise from critics, with Wine Advocate awarding it 92 points. A terrific value in the overheated realm of Napa Valley Cabernet, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon easily combines notes of Ribena and ripe cherries with hints of mocha. It’s full-bodied but easygoing, not overdone, just harmonious and supple, with a soft dusting of fine-grained tannins on the finish, making it very drinkable.
Aaron Pott joined the Hoopes team in 2020, in time to impact the 2018 vintage Cabernet releases, and that—combined with an excellent vintage—marks a step up!

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a dead ringer for an outstanding Bordeaux and has lots of cedar pencil, leather, tobacco, and assorted dark fruits in its medium-bodied, fruit-forward, balanced, and charming profile. It's perfect for enjoying over the coming 5-7 years or so.
