Hayfork Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch 2019 is a beautifully crafted bottle of wine made by master winemaker Haley Wight. Situated in the rich soil of the Lewelling Ranch in California, the wine’s flavor is heavily influenced by the natural elements of the land. With notes of blueberry, plum, violet, and tobacco, the bouquet of this wine is undeniably delightful.
The palate of this wine is full-bodied and opulent, carrying with it notes of boysenberries, cassis, pencil shavings, and charcoal. All these flavors mix together to give the wine a lingering and spicy finish. The Hayfork Cabernet Sauvignon is balanced by acidity and tannins, making it an incredibly delicious and enjoyable drink.
With only 475 cases produced, the Hayfork Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch 2019 is a rare find. This wine can also be cellared, as its flavor and complexity will evolve gracefully over time. For those lucky enough to acquire a bottle, they will be in for a special treat as this wine is truly special and hard to find.
The fruit for this Cabernet was grown under specific climatic conditions, with the heat and humidity of summer days and the cool nights allowing the fruit to develop into its fullest potential. Thus, the Hayfork Cabernet SauvignonLewelling Ranch 2019 has a robust and balanced flavor that is indicative of the land it was grown on.

77 reviews for Hayfork Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch 2019

  1. Lorena Potter

Needs time to open up. Good components suppressed. Not a pop and pour wine. 90-91 points.

  2. Thelma Mattox

Impressive wine. Crushed violets with nice depth and approachable finish. Paid $56 and happy with it.

  3. Terri Jarman

A young wine, needs more decanting time. Layered and mostly red fruited, ends up in black and blue spectrum. Ripe tannins and high acids, better with food. Perfect oak influence.

  4. Kisha Oktavec

    Wine is corked.

  5. Janina Copeland

    Great with steak.

  6. Gloria Martinez

Smooth 13 with red delicious notes. Soft tannins.

  7. Jennifer Hart

Stunning wine. Took 30 mins to open. Not a huge fruit bomb, but with plenty of fruit. Notes of cassis, plums, graphite, cedar and spice. Soft tannins and good acidity. Wonderful texture. Drank with popcorn, but food would work fine. Wish I had more.

  8. Margaret Lippert

Hayfork Cabernet Sauvignon 2012/2013 blend is impressive, plush, and complex under $100. Dark purple, full-bodied, and has a nose of blackberry, leather, and dried oregano. Tastes of boyenberry, milk chocolate, rosemary, and cedar with a plush finish and 14.9% alcohol. Seamlessness is lovely and has the stuffing to go for 3-5 more years – but no need to wait, it’s an incredible surprise.

  9. William Lacosse

Big wine with powerful tannins, rich blue fruit, and a long finish. Needs 2 years to reach its potential. Drink over the next 10-15 years.

  10. Dennis Archie

Fresh and drinkable upon opening. Dark with violets, red & black fruits, earth & smoke. Tannins notable, but not offensive. Beautiful new world cab to open after several years.

  11. Joshua Bell

Preferred Lewelling Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon to the Field Select due to plummy and alkaline aftertastes. Field Select was bigger but rounder and sloppier. 87 points. Uncertain about its aging potential.

  12. Henry Gilbert

Hayfork’s 2015 Flagship Cabernet Sauvignon has a medium-bodied core with notes of plum, cedar, and black currant. It’s a decent wine, but too light for Napa’s 2015 vintage. Paired well with hard cheeses. 90-91 points.

  13. Heidi Andrews

Weak delivery, flat mid-palate, no finish. Least impressive of Hayfork wines.

  14. Daniel Shaw

Rich and modern Cabernet with a nose of blackberry, cassis, and graphite. Tastes of plum, chocolate bar, rosemary, and gravel. Solid entry in the $75 and under category.

  15. James Laflore

Big and chewy with aging potential. Berries, lavender, and more on the palate. Great nose.

  16. Tracy Norris

Silky smooth with lavender and cherry notes. Perfectly paired with mint dark chocolate.

  17. Billy Johnson

Delicious fruit-packed Napa cab with moderate tannins, smoke, and sweet ripe fruit. Not as strong as the ’15 Field Select.

  18. Courtney Pooler

Velvety jammy cab packed with fruit and modest tannins. Evolving potential.

  19. Tammy Harland

    Great value cabernet.

  20. Katherine Suarez

Great value for money, drinks like a premium wine.

  21. Angela Shirley

Sweet fruit, chocolate, and violets explode on the palate with this unique blend of Petite Verdot and Lewelling grapes.

  22. Valda Poole

Hayfork is beautiful, round, and lush. Weak acidity makes the experience somewhat incomplete. Nonetheless, we have a second bottle and will enjoy it.

  23. Douglas Smith

Floral and fruity with restraint and class, surprisingly open for business after 2+ hours of air. Optimal drinking window now 2021-2029, rated 92 today.

  24. Roberto King

Approachable tannins, young wine with dominant flavors of clove, dark plum, and dark blackberry; shows potential to age for years.

  25. Tamara Case

    Excellent, rich wine.

  26. Sarah Hobbs

Phenomenal cab with black fruit flavor, cassis, and jammy mouthfeel. Classic cab, balanced and nuanced after 4-hour decant. Great for a young cab.

  27. Dorthy Glaspie

    Requires further aging.

  28. Paul Cook

    “Complex and balanced. Beautiful.”

  29. Edward Crutchfield

Balanced with fruity notes. Wish I had more.

  30. Lakesha Vigil

    Excellent.

  31. Michael Hernandez

Value-packed wine with youthful integration, boasts black fruit flavor and a velvety texture.

  32. Janice Patterson

    Great!

  33. Lorena Vera

Young, balanced, smooth tannins, beautiful finish, ages well. 93/94 potential.

  34. Bernadette Aguinaldo

Approachable and smooth, hints of eucalyptus and rosemary on the nose. Exceptional pedigree, best value in Napa.

  35. Pamela Foster

Excellent cassis and vanilla aromas. A medium-bodied Cabernet with dark fruit flavors. Smooth and silky with earthy, spicy, and smoky notes. Well-balanced and dense.

  36. Naomi Rogers

Sweet and tannic with notes of dark fruit, cigar, and vanilla.

  37. Joan Fields

Young and disjointed, but improved with time. Age for a year or two or decant for a few hours.

  38. Bettie Stout

“Surprisingly delightful Cabernet at $70, worth more.”

  39. Craig Moradian

Rich, fruity Napa cab with notes of cassis and currants. Full-bodied with a boozy finish. Expected more based on JD’s review. Needs 1-2 years to improve.

  40. John Carmichael

Medium-plus weight, decent nose, and well-balanced. The sweetness has mellowed and shows a little class, but nothing stands out as outstanding. A lower acid, pleasing modern Napa cabernet.

  41. Stacy Stevens

HMC’s fruit was almost jammy upon opening, with lack of acidity and a short finish, but improved with air. Nice elements but lacked unison and mid-palate substance.

  42. Vincent Hale

Good, but not exciting. Improves with time. Maybe just not my taste.

  43. Florine Labine

Outstanding. Velvety mouthfeel and finish dominated by cigar and old vanilla wood. Nose screams of blue and blackberry.

  44. Michael Lewis

Great wine, needs time to open up. Tar, creosote and Youngwood on the nose. Balanced after decanting, but finish is brief. Excellent wine with potential to age.

  45. Rebecca Bozych

Impressive value. Full-bodied with dominant blue and black fruit. Tannins in balance. Drink or hold.

  46. Erica Sims

    Requires further aging.

  47. Jaime Gade

    Review: Oak overpowers. Cellar it.

  48. Bradley Byrne

    Woody.

  49. Harry Alfaro

Consistent with last bottle, still beautiful.

  50. Julia Allen

New World fruit-driven wine with tons of blueberry, still young but smooth. Potential to impress in 2-4 years and last for 10+.

  51. Robert Nordberg

Ripe and rich blue and black fruits with a nice savory finish of herbs, tobacco, earth. Well-priced and beautiful to drink now.

  52. Mildred Robinson

Blueberry aromas at first, later vanilla and toasted oak. More weight and length than when opened. Needs more time to integrate and settle. 91 today, potential for 93.

  53. Nancy Taylor

Hayfork Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch 2014 is an excellent wine made by Haley Wight. The wine is full-bodied with dark blueberry/raspberry fruit that delights into a smooth, delicate, and slightly spiced finish that makes you wanting more. The newer vintages should be equally as desirable.

  54. Monique Delp

Youthful with a touch of acidity, this toasted black fruited wine has tar, tobacco and fig flavors with a peppered finish. Better after 3-4 hours of airing. Can reach its potential in 2026.

  55. Imogene Glazer

    Fantastic oaky finish.

  56. Merrill Epps

Cellar for a long time. Tallow, pepper, acidic finish. Decanting didn’t help.

  57. Steve Corson

Sophisticated and smooth with notes of coffee, vanilla, caramel, and oak. Decant if drinking within 3 years.

  58. Guy Watkins

Creamy texture overpowers the tasty fruit in this wine, making it distracting to drink. Hoping for positive growth with the other bottles.

  59. Doris Brockman

    “Oak overpowers palate.”

  60. Herbert Devora

Great Cabernet with blue and black fruit, savory, dusty, and spicy notes. Satin smooth palate with ripe plums, cherries, and milk chocolate. Soft tannins and juicy finish. 95 Cab 5 PV. Only 730 cases made. Cheers! 🍷

  61. Lorraine Nichols

Review: Enjoyable classic Napa Cab with blue and black fruits, kirsch, loam, medium body, short finish – smooth, balanced. Perfect to drink for 7-10 years.

  62. Donald Fernandez

Needs time to open up, fruit-driven, not as good as the night before.

  63. Gwen Jones

Young and tight. Vibrant dark fruit on the palate. Needs a few more years to reach its full potential.

  64. Courtney Lataille

Winery sample. Pure nose of crushed stone and blueberry. Primal tannic bite, richer than Lewelling Wight.

  65. Cheri Hall

Balanced, dark fruited, and juicy Napa Cab. Oak/vanilla aroma dissipated after decanting. Yum.

  66. Brent Tucci

    Balanced and strong.

  67. Agnes Boyd

Full-bodied 2018 Hayfork with blackberry jam and toasty oak. Medium-length finish, can age for 5+ years. Needs integration, put away for a few years. $80.

  68. Maureen Caperton

Drink now with an hour of air. No need to age further.

  69. Cesar Barrett

Young and tight, with too much oak for my taste. May improve after 2025.

  70. Vickie Bach

Needs more time to come into its own. Nose heavy on vanilla and young toasted oak. Dark syrupy fruits dominate with hints of cigar and spice rack.

  71. Georgette Lubrano

Robust Napa cab with oak creme and heft. Long, rich finish. Enjoy within 5-7 years.

  72. Jacob Howell

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with fruity nose, blackberries, plums, cherries, vanilla, and spices. Opulent and tasty with fine-grained tannins. Good with BBQ meats. $70.

  73. Reynaldo Salafia

Coravan’d a week ago, this vintage is clearly infanticide. Very dry, dusty & heavy with plenty of chocolate & dark fruit. Needs plenty of time to open up, but may add points. Softened on Day 2, nicely balanced with truffled chocolate & dark berries. Easily 93, maybe 94. Needs to sit for several years.

  74. Nicholas Hipsher

Dark fruit profile with brambly boysenberry and baked fig notes. Hints of dark chocolate, forest floor, and black licorice. Finishes with jammy black fruits and black pepper. Enjoy now as it’s in a great place.

  75. Marisol Castle

Youthful yet drinkable. Strong cassis and dark berries. Ages well. Delicious.

  76. WA

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it slips sensuously out of the glass with provocative scents of boysenberries, plum preserves, cassis and underbrush, with hints of pencil shavings and charcoal. The full-bodied palate is wonderfully spicy with tons of juicy black fruits and a long opulent finish.

  77. JD

I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch, which is made by the talented Haley Wight. A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, it has a vibrant bouquet of blueberries, fresh plums, violets, and tobacco. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and opulent on the palate, it stays perfectly balanced and a joy to drink. There are a scant 475 cases. You won’t find many Cabernets better than this at the price.
