Wine Description
Bodegas Caro Amancaya 2019 is the product of a careful blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Mendoza region in Argentina. Both grapes are sourced from select plots of old vines in Lujan de Cuyo and Altamira, two of the highest wine producing regions in the world.
The winemaker, Pablo Serrano, has gone to great lengths to ensure the best possible vintage, harvesting the grapes by hand and carefully sorting them at the winery. During the fermentation process, regular pumping over allowed for a gentle extraction of the tannins, and after malolactic fermentation, the wine was placed in both French oak barrels and concrete vats to complete the aging process.
Bodegas Caro Amancaya 2019 is a beautiful deep red color with intense ruby hues. The aroma is inviting and abundant with notes of blackcurrant, strawberry, floral and mint. As the wine is allowed to open up, more aromas of cassis, graphite and coffee bean come through. On the palate, the wine is robust yet smooth, with polished tannins and a long and memorable finish. The climatic conditions of the season, the precise winemaking process and the combination of high-altitude terroirs all contribute to the complexity and precision of this gem.
Whether accompanying a good meal or drank on its own, Bodegas Caro Amancaya 2019 is sure to please.

Joeann Bradfield –
ST Wine Fair (St Regis Singapore): Fruity.
Frank Schwartz –
Silky mid-palate with blue and black berries. Elegant expression of Argentina. Pop and pour.
Evelyn Smith –
Delicious blend of 65% Malbec & 35% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Kerry Gayman –
Full bodied Malbec with notes of blueberries and cassis. Tannins soften after opening. Great with steak.
Thomas Burditt –
Sweet and cheerful with a medium body. Easy to sip and enjoy without overthinking.
Willie Harris –
Undrinkable, poured down the drain.
John Malkani –
Great value, well-rounded medium-bodied wine with big ripe nose of plums and blackberry. 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon in the 2015 blend.
Miriam Griffith –
Unripe, uninteresting.
Guadalupe Rodriguez –
Rich and full-bodied, with mint, chocolate, and red fruit from Cabernet and smoked plum from Malbec. Good structure.
Evelyn Curtis –
Cloudy dark red/brown, fruity aroma. Full body with silky texture and soft tannins, high alcohol heat. Good acidity with sweet spices, dried fruit, and blackberries. Fantastic, but lacking length.
Lee Moore –
Silky and delicious with great fruit. A lovely surprise.
Patrick Wilson –
Great with steak and sides. Closed at first, but aroma and flavors emerge after an hour. Red fruit and floral nose, warm spices on palate, mild tannins. Medium mineral finish. Not complex, but enjoyable with weekday meals. Let it aerate. Very good QPR.
Charles Aguilar –
“Classy, yet too young.”
Thomas Lafosse –
Ruby red with a clay rim, dominated by Cabernet Sav’s flavor and scent, red cherries, fresh, refreshing, well-integrated oak, and a slightly dry finish. Goes well with medium rare ribeye.
Cory Schulman –
Amancaya – Nice blue fruit, fine grained black pepper.
Lindsey Shealy –
Well-made, fruity Malbec with moderate oak and good taste, but lacks depth.
Tamara Dahlen –
Shorter Review: Acidic, bland, short finish. No fruit or tannins. Not better than cheap supermarket wine. Malbec scent fades quickly, leaving green cabsav.
Angela Ernest –
Soft and velvety with a sweet berry flavor and vanilla creme finish.
Bernard Pace –
Ruby Malbec with blackberry and pepper notes. Lovely.
Mario Macias –

Review: This Malbec Cabernet blend is a must-try. It has intense fruit aromas and flavors of dark cherries and blackberries with hints of spice. Medium+ body, medium acidity, and medium+ tannins.
Guadalupe Taylor –
Solid blend with more Malbec than Cab Sauv, a steal for under $20.
Clyde Chapa –
Great value for money. Deep purple, opaque. Prominent dark fruit, plum, dark cherry, white pepper, some evidence of oak. Medium plus acidity, smooth well integrated medium tannin, alcohol medium. Complemented ribeye very nicely.
Alexander Williams –
Excellent value for money.
Ricardo Benites –
A balanced and versatile summer red with mild oak and red cherry flavors. Easy to drink and develops nicely with time.
Gus Lamark –
Excellent once more.
Charles Hooten –
Pleasurable blend with tart red fruit notes, zippy pepper, and an earthy, wet stone finish.
Sherry Smith –
Balanced spiciness and dried fruits, but harsh and needs time to breathe. Day two brings more ripeness of black currant and pepper. Reserved raspberry nose, touch of herb, medium plus tannin and acidity, dried fruit on the palate.
Jesse Mcdowell –
Wine.com, $22 – 91 RP. 72% Malbec, 28% Cab Sauv. Pleasant nose, fruity start, mild tannins, low acidity, medium finish. Benefit from decant, pairs well with ricotta and spinach ravioli.
June Lee –
Deep ruby color, red fruit nose, hints of spice. Medium body, smooth tannins. Short finish, pairs well with steak. Needs time to open up, tastes better on the 2nd day.
George Bauman –
Notes of rose petals, strawberry jam, cherry, raspberry, and anise with lingering tannins.
Jeane Chambers –
Slightly acrid finish.
Karyl Jones –
This wine is good value for its price, with a dark fruit and floral violet finish. However, it is flabby with a short finish and there are better options available at the same price point or lower.
William Wiemer –
Medium-bodied wine with red fruit notes and high acidity. Lacks structure and feels slightly thin. Not bad for £15.
Nola Birdwell –
Juicy and flavorful lamb chops.
Jean Dobbs –
Approachable and enjoyable with tons of fruit. Maturing well in bottle. Drink or hold.
Joshua Christianson –
Great value for an everyday wine. Versatile and pairs well with most foods.
Charles Hatter –
Blackberry, currant, and roasted coffee beans on the nose. Gripping tannins with black and red fruit, toasted oak, and medium to long finish. Best with chorizo burritos.
Margaret Lopez –
70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from high altitude vines in Mendoza. A little sweet with plush tannins, red and black fruit, hints of cedar and a spiced finish. Supple and lush, but a bit simple.
Lawrence Johnson –
A sappy wine with blueberry, cherry pie, vanilla bean, licorice, lavender, sage, and floral notes. Despite the 14.5% ABV, it retains fresh acidity and has ripe, supple tannins. Easy to drink with a mint, chocolate-covered espresso bean, and raw tobacco finish. Improves with some air. Score: 91.
Peggy Anderson –
Great for everyday sipping.
Bruce Goodson –
Excellent value for money, exceptional taste.
Lori Moya –
Malbec dominant. Earthy and dull in my opinion, not a fan.
Richard Pierce –
Medium-bodied, fruity red wine with smooth texture and dry finish.
June Lee –
Aroma of earthy mushrooms, taste of dark cherries and plums.
Portia Hall –
Wine is spoiled.
Beulah Hilton –
Cloudy red primitivo-like color, not aromatic. Smooth, low acidity & tannins. Black fruits, oak tobacco, cinnamon & pepper on the palate. Nice but anemic.
Mark Stein –
Malbec dominant, mediocre flavors, slightly over-processed. Short-medium finish.
Dawn Jennrich –
Needs air, but delicious. Plum forward, medium tannins, earthy finish, moderate acidity. Silky smooth on day 2.
Jefferey Sowell –
Dark fruit, funk, and spice on the nose. Medium to full-bodied red blend with black cherry, raspberry, licorice, and spice finish.
Melissa Christian –
Bold and welcoming, this wine has a great balance of dried red fruits, silky texture, and tannins that lead to a long finish.
Dolly Hill –
Rich and elegant blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Notes of ripe fruits, minerals, currant, and spice. Medium-full bodied with balanced flavors and fresh acidity. Lingering smoky mineral notes on the long finish.
Colleen Stowman –
Great value Malbec at Costco, around $15.
Hector Gutierrez –
Wine needs time.
Betty Limmel –
Medium+ bodied with high alcohol and medium to medium+ tannins and acidity. Deep ruby color with aromas and flavors of ripe black currant, oak, and black cherries. Finish is medium with a hint of black pepper. Good value for the price.
Betty Scriven –
This Argentinian malbec is Bordeaux-like in style with restraint, elegance, and structure resembling French wines. Slightly developed.
William Brumbaugh –
Authentic old-world style with berry, floral, and stone aromas. Needs time to open up.
Fred Mcgovern –
Score: 89.
Donald Turner –
Improved with age.
Chasity Lindblad –
Smooth and refined with blackberry, loam, and raisin scents. Light tannins and a slightly bitter finish. No decanting required.
Velma Wilson –
When Lafite Rothschild takes a boat to Argentina to grow grapes and blend juices in Mendoza, at sub $20 a bottle, anyone interested in wine has to take notice. Catena is there too, but let’s be honest in that I bought this because of the 1855 First Growth’s resume, not Catena, as good as they can be! , 28% CS, 72% Malbec., 14% abv, This wine needs a little air to open up and show it’s resolving tannins and structure. , It’s a ruby-garnet color liquid, with medium-pronounced intensity. Dark and red fruits The usual plums, black berry and vanilla, are present, along with an earthiness, a little tobacco and chocolate shavings. Cherries. , An interesting blend, and as with other Mendoza wines, it’s got a nice balance of acidity( a little high/sour?) and fruit, though the wine is out medium body, which may be expected by some. , For me, I expected more grippiness and a more full mouthfeel. Maybe it’s a Lafite bias I have? , Finish was short – less then 30 seconds. , I had this wine about 18 months ago. It’s developed in colour, but seems to have lost a the bouquet, and certainly the finish. With 14% alcohol, I’m uncertain as to why this wasn’t more evident. , With that knowledge, and with a couple cases to go, I think this will be a name to drink sooner then later. , It might get better in a couple of years, but again, as with these Argentinian wines, with big names behind them, it allows annual income, while they hold back the big wines and the accompanying big payday on Chateau Lafite! 🍷, Still they said, I expected more from this partnership. Obviously they know how to make wine, but seems they are experimenting here. , In the end, it’s $20!!! Not $1000!, C’est la vie…. And drink it in the next few years!, Addendum- Just read RP critique.About 50% of this wine matured in lightly toasted Lafite oak barrels and 50% in concrete vats, for 1 year. , That makes me think the lack of finish, little structure and tannins, are totally planned out in this wine- , he says drink before 2023!!! , Addendum 2- left this overnight in decanter without any alteration to the wine, but maybe slightly more tannin than day 1. My commentary remains. , Drink up! , Here’s the wine link and the marketing “discussion”., https://lafite.vin.co/JFH4RE, PS- Drink the rainbow!

Richard Stier –
Score of 91. Drinks well with a pnp. Continues to improve on day 3. Great crowd pleaser.
John Peterson –
Balanced, enjoyable.
Wanda Nance –
Perfectly balanced $20 Cab with no artificial wood chip vanilla taste or imbalance found in similar California cabs.
Eddie Davis –
Plum and cherry aromas with hints of tobacco and herbs. Smooth, full mouth feel with silky tannins and savoury fruit, baked apples and cinnamon. Longish finish.
Vickie Alvarado –
Balanced with ripe cherry aroma and light finish.
Florence Patino –
Balanced, enjoyable wine. Like a left bank Bordeaux.
Rachelle Rudolph –
Clean, fresh, untamed with raspberry candy and bitter wood flavors. Tastes good, best on day 4. 89~90/100.
John Banks –
Fruitless and strong alcohol taste. Unsure if due to aging or bottle variation. Vacu-vined half and will finish the rest this weekend.
Charles Nowell –
Young with moderate QPR, similar to cheaper options. Bottle age of five years may improve to excellent QPR, based on 2014 Caro’s amazing showing.
Erin Scott –
Dark ruby red. Fig and baking spices on the nose. Blackberry, leather, pepper, and baking spice on the palate. Soft tannins with a slight bitterness. Good wine, not a top pick.
David Lopez –

Elizabeth Lee –
Silky smooth, floral & mineral nose & body, with raspberries, red cherries, and cocoa nibs. 60/40 Cab based. Fantastic value for under $20. WS top 100 worthy.
Faith Wade –
Improves with every bottle, supple and gracious with blueberry, raspberry, incense, and floral potpourri. Meatiness on the palate with gradual, gracile lift. No decant needed, took 1.5hrs to open up.
