Wine Description
Introducing Bodegas Caro 2019, a true testament to the artistry of winemaker Pablo Serrano. This remarkable Caro Mendoza wine hails from the prestigious vineyards nestled in the foothills of the Andes mountains in Mendoza, Argentina. Renowned as the best wine producing region in the country, Mendoza’s elevated plateaux, ranging from 800 to 1200 meters above sea level, impart exceptional character to its wines.
CARO vineyard, located in Altamira, Uco Valley, South of Mendoza, sits on an ancient alluvial bed of the Tunuyan River. At an altitude of 1000 meters, the vines bask in the ideal combination of sun exposure and wide temperature variations, leading to the creation of outstanding grapes.
Crafted with the utmost care reminiscent of Bordeaux Grands Crus, Bodegas Caro selects grapes from specific sections within their vineyard, where calcareous deposits and limestone remnants from the ancient riverbed contribute to the soil’s unique composition. Hand-harvested, the grapes undergo a meticulous vinification process.
Pouring into the glass, Bodegas Caro 2019 reveals a deep red hue, captivating the eye with its richness and depth. The complex nose entices with an enticing blend of red fruits and figs, gracefully leading into alluring aromas of blackcurrant, a signature of this extraordinary vintage.
On the palate, this wine unfolds as a harmonious symphony. Its rounded texture and soft tannins envelop the senses, unveiling generous notes of blueberry and blackberry. The flavors intertwine elegantly, showcasing the wine’s impeccable balance. With each sip, Bodegas Caro 2019 reveals its vibrant personality and depth, leaving a lasting impression. The finish lingers gracefully, a testament to the wine’s well-crafted structure.

Robert Paulson –
Beautiful stuff; nice balance, tannins woven into a harmonious blend, eminently drinkable now, good for a few years at least, Good, but not the 98 I see on the bottle, 92-94
Wanda Stroud –
Rich bouquet of floral and spice. Complex palate with long finish. Dark berries and spices. Subtle oak and tannins. This is going to be a super wine in a few years. It was great tonight but we will hold the rest for special occasions. It is already one of my favorites.
Melissa Nolan –
Smooth and savory young wine with intense nose of oak, prune, butter, and dark berries. Full-bodied and fruity with a long finish of oak, cedar, and butter. Best glasses of recent drinking. 94+/100.
Leon Butler –
Soft tannins, cacao powder, milk chocolate and red meat. 98 points. Less interesting than Cheval des Andes.
Edna Barnhart –
Structured new world wine with old world backbone. Bordeaux style with pencil, lead and dark fruit notes. Minimal evolution post 1.5 hr decant. Longer finish would have increased rating.
Wayne Tenorio –
Dark purple with violet edges. Aroma of coffee and blackberries. Mid-palate offers blackberries and blueberries, with coffee at the end. Sweet texture. Could be mistaken for an Aussie Shiraz. Not my style, but good.
Erica Brown –
Great nose, ready to drink now. Decant for an hour. Keep the other bottle for aging.
Jason Mcclanahan –
Delicious, savory wine with black pepper, charcoal, and roasted fruit palate. Maturing, balsamic nose with good balancing acidity.
Anthony May –
Aging might improve it, but it’s good as it is.
Ruth Brennan –
Impressive wine, high alcohol. Decanted for 2 hours. Tastes of oak, raisins, dark chocolate, dry chalky finish. Paired with Hungarian Goulash, worked well with sweet paprika.
David Brown –
Full-bodied, high ABV wine with earthy notes of mushroom, sour cherries, tobacco, and cocoa. Mildly tannic, dry, and will last for a while. Enjoyed with grilled lamb. High QPR.
Brian Whitfill –
Goodman’s: Rich nose of red fruits and tobacco. Smooth deep palate. Nice.
Dorothy Reyes –
St Regis Singapore’s ST Wine Fair: Reserved with good structure and aging potential.
Patrick Lay –
75% Malbec blend with dark fruit, chocolate, and spice. Balanced acidity and tannins. Bone dry with a sweet finish. Elegant and satisfying with a smoothness that hides the 15% alcohol.
Michelle Casey –
Caro boasts a Bordeaux-like earthiness with olives and dried leaves. The fruit takes a back seat to the savoriness. Full body, grippy tannins, and assertive acidity provide good balance. Complex finish.
Marina Bell –
Dark color, notes of dark fruit, coffee, cocoa, smoke, and tobacco. Big, heavy, mineral, good acidity, rich fruit, round tannins, tart finish. Keep. 90-91+.
Emily Kearney –
Dark and intense color, with a hint of blue fruits and smoke. Medium body, fine tannins, and a short finish. Good value for money.
Kathleen Cox –
Nice Malbec flavor, unsure of potential. Not worth £30 compared to other options.
Chris Johnson –
Elegant, restrained with deep fruit. Long complex finish. Good stuff.
James Wilson –
Promising wine. Young, upfront, and chewy with two heavyweight grapes working together. Powerful.
Elizabeth Grant –
50/50 blend of Malbec and Cabernet. Needs time to open up. Improved on Day 2. Purple color, medium finish.
John Seal –
Elegant and unusual. Time will improve integration of hibiscus. Voluptuous yet lithe. Back end tannin softening would help with age. Guests impressed.
Jonnie Rodriguez –
Supple, rich, smooth, full-bodied with fruity and woody notes. Well-balanced and elegant with a sweet, yummy taste. Long finish and excellent value for money.
Shaun Paya –
Fresh fruit with big & dark flavors. Needs more time. Catena for the Front, Rothschild for the back.

Excellent, consistent taste.
Bridget Langlinais –
Enjoyable, light sweetness, modern, great.
Henry Batarse –
Deep ruby with a deliciously ripe raspberry nose and a red fruit confit taste, albeit one-dimensional.
Gloria Stahlberg –
Dark inky purple with a sweet, perfumed aroma. Tastes great with fatty foods, bitter on the front with slight tannins and fruit on the finish. Short finish with coffee and plum acidity. Overall, an awesome wine that’s excellent on its own and with food. 4.5/5.
Howard Mchenry –
Best on Day 2. Creme de cassis, tobacco, cherry liqueur, earth. Fine tannins. Medium acid. Long finish. Touch hot, but still good. Drink now with a decant; can hold until 2023.
Jacqueline Swanson –
“Requires aeration and pairs well with food. Great choice.”
Brian Diaz –
Complex and interesting blend of 50% Malbec and 50% Cab. Aromatics are kicked up from mica soils. Salty spice and minerality on the nose with ripe fruit and spice on the palate. Delicious.
Benjamin Washington –
2015 Caro: 85% Malbec, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep aromas of blackberries, red plums, tobacco, eucalyptus, spices, loam, and dried violets. Full-bodied, velvety, concentrated with balanced sweetness and acidity. Ages well.

Consistent quality, highly enjoyable.
Renee Lewis –
Coravin Tasting (new bottle) – Dark purple wine with complex aromas of blackberry, green pepper, leather, tobacco, and chocolate. Soft, balanced, and elegant with delicious flavors. High-quality wine with a sunny twist. Pricey but worth it for the complexity and suppleness.

Rebecca Carter –
2016 needs more aging. 2015 is better.
