Introducing the 2018 Tenuta Di Arceno Valadorna, a testament to the finesse and depth that the Chianti region of Italy can produce, especially when it comes to Merlot-led blends. This wine, crafted by the talented winemaker Lawrence Cronin, is a vibrant showcase of what the Valadorna and Capraia blocks on the estate have to offer. These blocks are known for their complex and mineral-rich expressions of Merlot, thanks to the cooler parts of the estate they occupy and their sandy brown soils.

The 2018 growing season at Tenuta Di Arceno was one for the books, marked by a cool, rainy start that led to a later bud break. However, the season turned around with perfect conditions in the summer, culminating in a harvest that was both balanced and expressive. The Merlot from the Capraia vineyard was harvested on September 14th, followed closely by the Merlot from the Valadorna block on September 16th, setting the stage for what would become an unforgettable vintage.

Upon pouring, the 2018 Valadorna greets you with a deep, inviting color. As you bring the glass closer, expressive aromas of nutmeg and fresh strawberry mingle with hints of vanilla, captivating your senses and drawing you in. The first sip reveals a soft and supple mouthfeel, with elegant tannins that wrap around the mid-palate, providing structure without overwhelming. This wine strikes a perfect balance with its acidity, ensuring that every sip is as refreshing as it is complex. The palate is treated to flavors of ripe black cherry and sweet balsamic, leading to a lingering finish adorned with notes of tobacco, cedar, and a whisper of cinnamon.

The 2018 Tenuta Di Arceno Valadorna is not just a wine; it’s an experience, one that speaks volumes of the terroir from which it originates and the expertise behind its creation. It’s a wine that can be enjoyed now for its youthful vigor or cellared to appreciate its evolution over the years.

The critical acclaim for the 2018 Valadorna speaks to its exceptional quality and the impression it has left on wine critics worldwide. Monica Larner of Robert Parker Wine Advocate, Bruce Sanderson of Wine Spectator, Aldo Fiodrelli of Decanter, and James Suckling have all awarded this vintage impressive scores, recognizing its standout character and the meticulous care that went into its production.

With each sip of the 2018 Valadorna, you’re not just enjoying a glass of wine; you’re embarking on a journey to the heart of Italy’s Chianti region, courtesy of Tenuta Di Arceno. This wine is a reflection of the Arcanum winery’s dedication to excellence and innovation, making it a must-try for any wine enthusiast looking to explore the depths of Italian winemaking

An evolving red, supple and boasting cherry, raspberry, vanilla, coffee and spice flavors. Fresh and harmonious, fluid on the palate, with fine tannins uplifting the long finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2038.

Available in a heavy glass bottle, this is now 100% Merlot with fruit from two late-ripening vineyard sites (Valadorna and Capraia). The Tenuta di Arceno 2018 Valadorna is a dense, full-bodied Tuscan wine with hints of rosemary and grilled spice and plenty of velvety softness. This vintage shows extra spiciness for barbecued meat on the grill. This wine started off with only Merlot but became a Bordeaux blend in later years; however, the 2018, 2019 and 2021 vintages are 100% Merlot.

This is a soft red with the texture of fine velvet, offering dark-berry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied palate that’s attractive and delicious. Seductive. Drink or hold.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, two iconic grape varieties, are the heart and soul of many exceptional wines. This classic blend, often referred to as the "Bordeaux Blend," has its roots in the Bordeaux region of France, where it is believed to have originated. However, these grapes have spread their influence to various wine regions worldwide, each adding its own unique character to the blend. The choice of regions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes is vital, as climatic conditions and soil profiles significantly impact the quality of the wine. Bordeaux's moderate maritime climate with influences from the Atlantic Ocean provides the ideal conditions for these grapes.
