Tenuta di Arceno, nestled in the heart of Italy’s Chianti region, is a historical gem in the world of winemaking. This distinguished estate, owned by the Jackson Family Wines Group, traces its roots back to the early 16th century when the Del Taja family began assembling a collection of Chianti vineyards. Today, it boasts an expansive 1000-hectare (2500-acre) property.

Tenuta di Arceno was already a winemaking center in the 16th century. Located in the basin of two rivers – the Ambra, which flows towards Florence in the north; and the Ombrone, which flows towards Grosseto in the south – this area was once the center of Etruscan civilisation.

In honor of its past, the reference to “Arceno” derives from the Etruscan word “archè”, which means “point of origin”.

Approximately 92 hectares (220 acres) of the estate are dedicated to vineyards, with a primary focus on Sangiovese, along with smaller plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Tenuta di Arceno’s vineyards are divided into 63 distinctive “micro-crus,” each meticulously cultivated to express its unique terroir.

What sets Tenuta di Arceno apart is its commitment to precision winemaking. Each micro-cru is harvested and vinified separately, affording the winemaker unparalleled flexibility in crafting exceptional blends. Their flagship Strada Al Sasso, a Sangiovese masterpiece, originates from a single vineyard block.

In addition to their Chianti Classico lineup, Tenuta di Arceno offers three Super Tuscan wines under the Arcanum label, artfully combining Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Situated on slopes ranging from 1000 to over 1750 feet above sea level, the estate’s diverse soils—including clay, sandstone, basalt, and hard schist—imbue their wines with distinctive character. Tenuta di Arceno continues to be a testament to centuries of winemaking tradition and innovation, producing wines that captivate wine enthusiasts worldwide.
