Wine Description
From California in the immensely popular wine region of Napa Valley comes the 2019 Emblem Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine made for any occasion with a delicate and accommodating palette. This Cabernet Sauvignon was made with 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and 7% Petite Sirah grapes, all handpicked from vineyards dotted along the eastern hillsides of Napa Valley. The grapes were grown in a manner that was both sustainable and Napa Valley Green and Fish Friendly certified in order to respect the generational commitment to responsible farming.
This Cabernet was crafted by the well-regarded winemaker, Rob Mondavi Jr. who is known for producing flavorful and expressive wines. The 2019 vintage benefited from copious rain at the start of the season, albeit with a sporadic finish. However, the long, warm summer weather was ideal for producing vibrant wines with bright acidity and ample texture. The color of this Cabernet is brilliant ruby with hints of purple at the core.
The aromas are of pine needles, fresh plums, blackberries, currants, and herbs while the flavors evoke cassis, huckleberry, plum, and coffee bean with a touch of toasty oak. The palate is full-bodied, with firm and fine tannins ‘ the perfect balance of structure and finesse. James Suckling gave this wine a rating of 90 points, praising its mineral finish ‘ a testament to the quality of the terroir within the region. This Cabernet Sauvignon will drink beautifully upon release or can cellar for another 5 to 10 years.

Marilyn Kramer –
Floral cassis and blackberry liqueur with soft tannins and sweet dark fruit, finished with a slight brulee and red apple skin. Good.
Dorothy Nettles –
Review: Requires aging.
Marcia Rokus –
Great value for money.
Donna Guevarra –
Better on the second day. Decant or age it. Good value and delicious.
Dorothy Gilman –
Wait until 2018 to enjoy it.
Jessica Schlipp –
$39.99 Michael Mondavi virtual tasting on 03/26/16. Rich color, harmonious & drinkable young. Mostly Cab Sauv w/ other varietals.
Paul King –
Fantastic wine, a standout at Total Wine’s virtual tasting. Perfectly balanced and enjoyable now, but could also be cellared for another year.
Theresa Burdine –
Intense nose, fruit-forward palate, high tannins. Decant for an hour, needs aging.
Jeffrey Barnett –
The wine needs 2 hours to open up. Without it, the blend is uninteresting. Once opened, it has flavors of dark chocolate, black berries, plum, and fig with a medium finish. Overpriced and lacks complexity.
Lorraine Collins –
Day 1: bitter, tight, tannic. Day 3: incredibly smooth. Day 2 needs long decant or time in cellar. Will deliver with shelf time.
Troy Pack –
Dry Cab with deep, dark fruits and smoky oak. Day 2 brings out coffee and mocha notes with ripe fruit flavors. Needs time in the bottle.
Monica Cordero –
Delicious.
Freeman Dininno –
Tannic now, potential later.
Mark Kertesz –
Review: A full and refined bouquet of dark berries, chocolate, coffee ground, and licorice. High density and highly refined on the palate with a long and harmonious finish. A great wine from Napa Valley. Expect a delicious and succulent experience. Score: 93+ / 100. Price: 35 €.
Rosena Mcconnell –
Review: Napa vs Bordeaux (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Vanilla/choc atop berrries/earth? Med body, swtish frt met by astringent mid-P pucker which resolves into LONG, spicy/tangy finish. Needs 2 yrs min but may justify it. 88 pts WE @ $35.
Dorothy Weipert –
NV Cab has a dense fruit with a subtle sweet nose and a counterpoint of oak and acidity. It needs a day under vacuum to drink well.
Shaun Sotak –
Enjoyable.
Nora Bassett –
Young and tight with cedar, toasted oak, and blackberry compote on fragrant nose. Very dry palate with medium long tannic finish. Potential for a 90-91 pt wine with another year or two in the bottle.
Michelle Turner –
Vintage Wines Ltd. Cabernet Sauvignons (4-CA, 1-S. Africa, & 1-Bordeaux) is a ripe wine with a bittersweet chocolate finish. It needs 18 months or so of additional cellar time. 88 pts WE. $38 sugg retail.
Beatrice Nicholls –
Overoaked mass of tannins with minimal fruit. Not enjoyable now.
Megan Weinman –
Approachable at first, but lost its bouquet after a few hours.
Charles Martin –
Wine ruined by cork contamination.
Margaret Guinn –
“Needs an hour to breathe but worth it. Excited for the next bottle.”
Donna Martinez –
Decent wine for $22-25, but overpriced at $30-33. Better options available at that price point.
Ernesto Benbow –
Slight dry finish, smooth tannins
Daniel Lane –
Wine didn’t meet high expectations from last tasting at Elway’s in DIA, lacked concentration. Compared to a Myriad 2014 Three Twins which may not have been a fair comparison.
Gloria Sirmans –
Smooth finish, excellent taste.
Larry Purcell –
California’s O-Obvi Cab is almost like vanilla coke, with a crabby twist.
Robert Strange –
Dry, structured and modern with scents of flowers, berries, plum and cocoa. Pleasant now.
Tami Mccurdy –
“Vanilla oak bomb at opening, sweet QPR at $50. 5 bottles pleased the table.”
Helen Brown –
Excellent, magnificent.
Barbara Nichols –
Vintage Wines’ Winebar offers a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness, with a distinct dusty tannin sweetness. It’s drinkable now but can last for three more years, making it a good value for its price.
Matilda Bohrman –
Vintage Wines Ltd.’s CA Cabernets & Blends are ripe with berries, medium-bodied, and have a slightly bitter finish with dusty tannins. Astringent pucker is resolved by a long finish with a tangy/sweet aftertaste. Drink through ’19 and 3-4 years after. 90 pts Suckling. Check with the vendor for pricing.
James Garcia –
Classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon aromas and flavors in nose and mouth.
Mary Cabrera –
Winebar offers 2 Rosés, 2 Whites, and 8 Reds, including 3 shared bottles from Vintage Wines Ltd. The wine has a coconut and ripe berry aroma with a slightly sweet taste and tangy finish. It has a 14.5 ABV and is recommended until 2022. It received 90 points from Suckling and is a good value for the AVA. Contact vendor for pricing.
Tracy Stermer –
Cabernets & Blends from Vintage Wines Ltd. (4-Napa, 1-Paso, & 1-Walla Walla Valley) were nice, with almost sweet fruit notes and a balanced finish. Great value for the AVA, rated 90 pts by Suckling. Check with the vendor for pricing.
Marian Ortega –
Berry burst on the tongue, nice finish. Perfect with cheese and smoked whitefish. Will rebuy.
Annie Guajardo –
Marie approved, but I found it dry.
Richard Pauly –
Intense tannins add texture to easy drinking wine. Needs time for acid and tannins to integrate.
Claudette Brooks –
Bright, minty red fruits with cherry licorice and red currant. Medium-bodied with grippy tannins. A nice everyday pleaser.
Lucy Orndorff –
30 min decant. Good value. Ready to drink.
Larry Boeke –
Chewy tannins with sweet chocolate cherry flavor and low acidity. Oaky floral scent.
Ginger Langer –
Deep and rich with great structure, this wine is a steal for its price.
Jennifer Thornton –
Underwhelming 2013 Napa vintage with congested flavors and overpowering alcohol. Dark earth and fruit notes, but not inviting. Needs more time.
Glenn Minor –
“Smooth tannins, long cherry finish with dark chocolate hints.”
Alana Collins –
Poor.
Ralph Bliss –
Balanced dark berries, acidity & tannins. $40 value.
John Bordner –
Solid Napa Cab. Will improve with age. Excited for the next bottle in a few years.
Ronald Drake –
Palate-heavy but unstable with air. AVOID.
Ellen Harrison –
Expensive cab taste, great character and depth, but a short finish. Enjoyable.
Myong Li –
Great pick for January 2021 – Pour Choices.
Damien Popken –
Cellared this wine, and it’s drinking exceptionally well now.
Anthony Lemke –
Improved with settling, composed with dark fruit profile. Nothing amiss.
William Garza –
Fantastic wine with dark fruit, chocolate undertones, and toasted wood. Well-integrated with no heavy tannins or bombastic oak. Perfect to drink now.
Mistie Kaplan –
Dark fruit and oak, solid value.
June Lartigue –
Definitely worth repurchasing.
John Gutsche –
Great value for money.
Richard Jones –
First bottle: WOW! Bold, fruity, smooth, excellent. Second bottle: Disappointing. Tart, bitter, flat, missing fruit. Might be getting old, stored in wine fridge. Bummed.
Gregory Linville –
Powerful Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, thick and rich without being overly oaked with vanilla notes.
Rodney Cheatham –
Mineral-packed, elegant wine with subtle power. Not for those seeking a powerhouse. Rated 92, worth buying more.
Willis Espinoza –
Great QPR wine with strong blue fruit and good tannins. Best served slightly chilled.
Mia Tommolino –
Typical Napa Cab with overripe plum and alcoholic finish. Settles down after 24 hours, but not my preference.
Robert Blazer –
Deep purple color with slow legs. Oak, gooseberry, and sandalwood on the nose. Blackberry, plum, and spice on the palate. Long leathery finish.
Rosella Paille –
“Bordeaux blend with character and elegance. Notes of black fruit, licorice, and dark chocolate. Needs proper aeration.”
Joe Anderson –
Fruity and vibrant, perfect for daily indulgence. Lasts for more than 2 days.
Shaina Runyon –
Great value, fruity with dark berries and black berries. Long finish. Cheers!
Carlos Neal –
Decent wine for the price but not my top choice.
Agnes Romano –
Madhavi’s Cab is a classic Napa wine: fruity and well-rounded, with hints of berries, honeysuckle, and milk chocolate. It goes well with salads and charcuterie, and is sure to please any crowd.
Karen Obrien –
“Exquisite notes of black cherry and hints of oak make for a smooth finish. Highly recommended for those who appreciate a bold red.”
Hugh Saldivar –
Dark fruit and spice on the nose, with a full-bodied blackberry, black cherry, toast, and spice finish. Drink now.
Dorothy Lim –
Respectable Napa cabernet, but lightweight with light plumskin, blackberry, and cedar backdrop. Nothing exceptional.
David Quiroz –
Robust and fruity with lively acidity. Excellent.
Jonathan York –
“Balanced structure with black cherry, currant, vanilla, and chocolate notes. Excellent modern mass-market wine.”
Cindy Noyes –
Ripe red fruit, light-medium body. Opens up after an hour or two, but still tasty.
James Shaw –
Chicago’s Tax Relief Tasting in Glenview IL offers a walkaround tasting of black and purple plums with a hint of sweetness and warmth. Overall, it’s a decent experience.
