Wine Description
Bucklin Old Hill Ranch, a winery founded by the esteemed winemaker Will Bucklin, presents a remarkable creation with their Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. This wine is produced by one of California’s oldest vineyards, which dates back to 1852. It has gained national recognition for consistently producing exceptional wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon block on Old Hill Ranch spans a six-acre area and was established in 1983. Its captivating history contributes to its attractiveness. The vines were initially planted on AXR rootstock and have been affected by phyloxera over time, which has resulted in compromised roots. As a result, the vine’s vigor is diminished, leading to lower yields. However, this unique characteristic imparts an austere and lean quality, reminiscent of classic Cabernets of bygone eras.
Prepare to be captivated by the intensity of this Cabernet Sauvignon. Managed by Phil Coturri from the renowned Coturri family of Sonoma, this wine exhibits robust flavors of red fruit and cassis. The well-balanced acidity harmonizes flawlessly with the fine tannins, creating a delightful combination that makes it an ideal companion for a barbecue or a savory winter stew.
As you pour this wine, it unveils deep aromas of plum, currant, cedar, and oak barrel spice. The palate is bold and assertive, with the presence of tannins beautifully counterbalanced by a bright acidity. Deep currant and plum flavors intertwine gracefully with notes of cedar and oak spice, leaving a lasting impression.
This exceptional wine harkens back to the old-school era, where tradition and quality were paramount. Indulge in lavish blackberry fruit, velvety dark chocolate, tantalizing blue fruits, and a hint of smoked meat. The long finish is accompanied by a kiss of oak, leaving you yearning for more. The 2019 vintage is a testament to the artistry of Will Bucklin and the historical significance of this site, offering an extraordinary experience that wine enthusiasts will cherish.
Experience the magnificence of Bucklin Old Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, a wine that combines heritage, craftsmanship, and the essence of a bygone era in every sip.

Eleanor Snider –
Cabernet: New Releases at Wine Exchange in Orange, CA. Almost opaque purple with heat on the nose and more in the mouth. Consider planting more zin.
Jessica Dunlap –
Bowler Spring Tasting: Chewy wine, long finish, cooler climate. Enjoyed it.
Paul Evans –
Clean and fruity Cab with a spicy kick, soft tannins, and no oakiness despite being aged in French oak. Good bones.
Ethel Coleman –
Young purple/garnet wine with med intensity nose of cherries and perfume-like fruit. Full-bodied, high alc, and aggressive tannins. Should improve with age and has a “cola” quality.
William Wilson –
Initial tightness improves with wine wand, decent start.
Marta Craig –
Great value cab with dark fruit, medium tannins, and moderate complexity.
Amy Langer –
Vin Vino Wine’s California Cabernets have a clear, maroon color with red hues. The nose has smoke, earth, and dark fruit, while the palate is filled with blackberry, blueberry, cherry, oak, and spice. The wine has low acid, medium tannins, and a short finish.
Ashley Howard –
Dry farmed, organic with classic cab nose – cassis, charcoal, hint of bell pepper, cedar and oak. True Napa, well done, no over ripeness.
Matthew West –
Concentrated and flavorful, with a fruit and spice bouquet. Berries linger on the finish. Better than many $50-70 wines, so don’t miss this $25 gem.
Pamela Gross –
Bottle too young for rating, needs 6 more months to age.
Bernard Sanchez –
Simple palate with notes of blueberry pie and strawberries, finished with a creamy texture.
Dallas Chynoweth –
Distinctive Cabernet with a fresh, spicy fruit profile and hints of herbaceous notes. Great length with gorgeous fruit purity matched well by oak spice. Ideal with steak.
Bradley Nelson –
Excellent value for money.

Rocio Baker –
“Tasty, fruity, easy drinking but not as good as Napa cabs.”
Henry Muellerleile –
Smooth and ready to drink now, perfect for immediate enjoyment.
Herbert Strauch –
“Should have bought a case, not just one. Classic NorCal Cab with plummy fruit and grip. Decant for 90 mins to taste Old Hill and Cab Sauv.”
Misty Hendrix –
Well-made old-school cabernet with rustic style and integrated tannins. Drink soon, as fruit is still present alongside dominant savory notes.
Saul Heise –
Balanced Cabernet with leather, tobacco, and Old Hill on the nose. High acidity, full body, and medium tannin with raspberries and sage notes. Best enjoyed with long decanting or holding.
