Wine Description
A stunningly beautiful and exciting wine, the 2020 Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is bright and sculpted, brimming with citrus, green pear, chalk, and white pepper overtones. The mid-palate is incredibly rich and focused and the finish is marked by minerality and mouthwatering acidity.
Sourced overwhelmingly from estate-grown fruit at Domaine de la Cote, the 2020 Sta. Rita Hills Chardonny brims with the energy and brightness that is the hallmark of our appellation. Buttressed with fruit from Rinconada and Patterson vineyards, two north-facing sites with rich-clay soils, the careful combination offers up our very favorite vintage of this wine to date. The grapes were crushed before pressing into neutral 500L puncheons. The wine underwent an indigenous fermentation with no additions or adjustments. After 10 months in puncheon, the wine was racked to tank and bottled after an additional 4 months without filtration.

Crushed rock aromas dominate the nose of this bottling, yet there are also waves of dried lemon peel, grapefruit zest and orange flesh. The palate is rocky in both texture and flavor, as tart citrus-peel elements add nuance.
WA –
The 2020 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills, still in tank, comes from about 70% estate and 30% purchased fruit. It’s savory at this stage, with tones of golden apples, beeswax, brioche and roasted almonds. The medium-bodied palate offers youthful, tangy acidity and slowly emerging nutty layers, finishing energetic.
VIN –
The 2020 Chardonnay (Sta. Rita Hills) is stellar. The aromatics alone are compelling. White orchard fruit, mint, white pepper and mint add a striking upper register. All the elements come together effortlessly. There’s real personality and class here. Then again, that’s not entirely surprising given than 70-80% of this fruit is emerges from Sandhi-designated blocks at Domaine de la Cote.
