Ad Vivum Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 entices with its rich heritage and single-vineyard origin from Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville, Napa Valley. Crafted by the skilled hands of Winemaker Chris Phelps, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the unique terroir and meticulous viticulture of the Bettinelli family.

In the glass, the wine reveals a deep garnet hue that hints at its opulence. On the nose, seductive notes of earth, black fruits, dried thyme, and brown baking spices intermingle with a touch of tobacco, creating an alluring bouquet. The aroma is further accentuated by a subtle whiff of spearmint, adding complexity.

The palate opens with a full-bodied, velvety texture, gracefully balancing saturated black and blue-toned fruits, reminiscent of ripe blueberries and blackcurrants. Savory wild herbs and earthy nuances complement the fruit, while conifer notes add a refreshing touch. The wine’s excellent structure is supported by fine-grained tannins and a firm acid backbone, ensuring its cellarworthiness. This vintage displays a vibrant quality and elegance, resembling the exceptional 2013 and 2016 vintages in Napa.

The winemaking process involves gentle destemming and meticulous sorting, with the must kept cool before fermentation. After 21 days on the skins, the new wine is aged for 20 months in 75% new French oak barrels, contributing to its silky mouthfeel and integrated oak characteristics.

The Ad Vivum Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 has received critical acclaim, with Decanter awarding it an impressive 98 points. Wine Advocate follows closely with 97 points, praising its fragrant plum and black fruit aromas, firm tannins, and fresh acidity. James Suckling’s 96-point rating highlights the wine’s luscious fruit profile of blueberries, blackberries, and violets, coupled with its creamy-textured tannins and extended, flavorful finish.

Enjoyable now but destined for further refinement, this exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon promises an unforgettable experience, revealing the true essence of Sleeping Lady Vineyard. With only 350 cases produced, securing a bottle of Ad Vivum Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a prized opportunity for any discerning wine enthusiast.

    Mel's Notes
Color: Deep garnet-purple, reflecting its rich heritage and opulence. Nose: A seductive blend of earthy undertones intertwined with fragrant black fruits such as plum preserves and kirsch. Nuances of dried thyme, brown baking spices, and tobacco create a layered aromatic profile. Subtle hints of menthol, stewed black tea, and spearmint add to the depth and complexity of the bouquet. A faint whisper of cast-iron pan lingers in the background. Palate: A full-bodied entrance gives way to a velvety texture, showcasing a harmonious blend of saturated black and blue-toned fruits, notably blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, and violets. The ripe fruit profile is underpinned by savory wild herbs, conifer, and earthy notes. The wine boasts an excellent structure, supported by fine-grained, creamy-textured tannins and a firm acid backbone. A refreshing splash of crushed stones adds a mineral touch, leading to a long, flavorful finish marked by red fruit sparks and extended elegance. Food Pairings: Given its complex profile, the Ad Vivum Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 pairs wonderfully with hearty red meat dishes like prime rib or lamb chops. Its earthy and herbal notes make it a great companion for dishes featuring wild mushrooms or rosemary-infused preparations. For a vegetarian pairing, consider a rich truffle risotto or a roasted vegetable tart.

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady Vineyard offers up fragrant scents of plum preserves and kirsch with hints of potpourri, stewed black tea and menthol, plus a waft of cast-iron pan. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a taut structure of firm, fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, supporting the generous black fruit layers, finishing with loads of mineral and red fruit sparks.

The personal project of winemaker Chris Phelps of Inglenook. Since his days at Dominus in the 1990s, he continues to show a deft hand with Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are sourced entirely from the Sleeping Lady vineyard in Yountville. Seductively fresh, giving up earth, black fruit, dried thyme and brown baking spices with hints of tobacco. Full-bodied on entry, striking a lovely balance between saturated black and blue-toned fruit with savoury wild herbs, conifer and earth, just hinting at spearmint, and bolstered by fine-grained tannins and a firm acid backbone. Long, layered and cellarworthy.

Blueberries, blackberries, violets and blackcurrants. Crushed stones, too. Full-bodied with soft, creamy-textured tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Juicy and velvety tannins. All here. Beautiful now, but will be better in 2025.
