David Natali

David Natali’s journey to becoming a prominent winemaker at Robert Biale Vineyards is a testament to dedication and a passion for crafting exceptional wines. Hailing from New York, David’s voyage into the world of winemaking began after a visit to a friend’s small winery, sparking a fascination with the artistic and scientific aspects of the craft.

His early experiences as a cellar hand at Clos Pegase Winery in Calistoga, CA, laid the foundation for his career. Over seven years, David immersed himself in every facet of winemaking, managing daily operations and honing his skills in the laboratory and cellar under the mentorship of the winemaker.

Eager to further his knowledge, David embarked on an educational sojourn in Europe, studying at the renowned University of Montpellier in France. Here, he pursued a master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology, spending two and a half years living and learning in Montpellier, France, and Udine, Italy.

Returning to California, David took up the role of Assistant Winemaker at La Rochelle Winery in Kenwood, CA, specializing in crafting small-lot, single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. His commitment to producing exceptional wines continued to grow.

In 2018, David made his way back to Napa Valley, joining Robert Biale Vineyards as Assistant Winemaker. Here, he oversaw the daily operations of the cellar and lab, working alongside Winemaker Tres Goetting to introduce innovative winemaking techniques.

David’s dedication and expertise soon bore fruit as he was promoted to the position of Head Winemaker in 2022. In this role, he remains committed to the craft, enthusiastically crafting wines that reflect the unique and historic vineyards of Napa and Sonoma Valleys.

Outside of the winery, David finds solace in Napa, where he resides with his wife and two young children. In his precious moments of leisure, he indulges in his passion for cooking and nurturing their garden. David Natali’s journey is a testament to the love for winemaking and the pursuit of excellence in every glass of wine he creates.
