High intensity aromatics, with layers of peach, kiwi, candle smoke, petrol and green herbs. The full-bodied palate is concentrated, savory and layered, with loads of alluring, spicy accents. A tremendously long finish. 41% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14%

      Sheinberg gets one

    2. Nathan Broadnax

This is pretty close to the best sqn white I’ve had. Burnt butterscotch, lemon curd, mineral, pear and white flowers. Texturally dense but enough acid to lift it. Needs time to open up but was still very expressive right after opening.

    3. Jay Peters

Spectacular. Butterscotch on the nose, but then a really well-rounded, balanced wine on the palette with that sweetness but also citrus and minerality and oily lushness. Just marvelous. An amazing showing this early on. Eager to see what the future holds.

    4. Wanda Thomas

A Little Havana disco-pulse ultra-club kaleidoscopic fruit bowl bonanza of butterscotch schnapps, honey hot toddy, fresh pineapple, unripe mango, dry hay, fresh corn, and limoncello mojito, the Distenta I rolls on to the Miami red (or perhaps tangy tangerine?) carpet with anything but an “unlabeled” or anonymous posture. With more upfront power and boom-boom energy than its 2018 Aperta sibling, the Distenta I is the first to arrive and last to leave the party….Into the decanter you go Mr. MJ Madman Moonwalk Shi’mownah Circle Slide Guy…With about three hours of crunching on open O2, the Distenta’s boozy bearing becomes sufficiently bushed, permitting its other partygoer parts to make their ways to the dance floor. Still, the vigor stays a bit ballooned and unbridled, flailing like a husky hysteric air tube dancer at times. It’s kinda like an all-neck Gold’s Gym pectoralis major type guy trying to bust out some kind of handspring acro dance. The Distenta pulls it off, but one does wonder at first if John Cena was the right casting selection for Cirque du Soleil. While the 2018 Aperta is a concoction of 38% Chardonnay, 25% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 6% Petit Manseng, and 9% Muscat, the Distenta I is a blend of 41% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14% Petit Manseng, 12% Viognier, and 7% Gelber Muskateller (whatever the heck that last grape is). The heavier Roussanne component in the Distenta may account in part for its pompous potency on the initial pull of the cork… Or perhaps its that 3 Muscat-teer grape causing the extra sass.Hold this for a couple of years, or give it a healthy decant so it doesn’t initially hit you in the face with its flailing firewater fists on the finish. The Krankl texture is in the shadows a bit right now. Some welcomed oiliness offers dabs of polish, but it needs to crash on the couch for a few years before it becomes more Gene Kelly. 95-97 point potential.

    5. Mark Henrick

Annual Friendsgiving Gathering (M/M thelostverse): Popped and poured. Orange, honeysuckle, dried peach, pineapple and tangerine notes. Wonderful complexity in the bouquet. Many similarities on the palate, with citrus tones a bit more prominent than anything else. Rich and layered, with a long finish.

    6. Kimberly Schnakenberg

Opened by Allred. 15.3% alcohol. 41% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14% Petit Manseng, 12% Viognier, and 7% Gelber Muskateller. A creamy texture in this full bodied white wine. Notes of white tea, jasmine, orange zest and honeysuckle. 94 points.

    7. David Gabriel

I’ve been on this mailing list for over 15 years, and this white ranks up there with the best I’ve ever had. No detailed tasting notes on this bottle, but it’s *really* good. If you bring one to a special occasion, it will not disappoint!

    8. Janet Ramirez

This is still very young and a little shy and primary for my taste but rivals any top tier CA white wine currently on the market. Medium body, medium plus acidity and lots of caramelized orange, marmalade and honeyed notes but with enough balance to make this very enjoyable. Could be consumed as an aperitif or with Christmas ham….very nice.

Date night, wife’s B-day, so its top shelf restaurant and what else SQN.Of course both 2018 EBA’s were singing and being loved. After the opening toast, 2012 Cristal, favorite drink of the working girl.We did the 2019 SQN white.Jeb said it was 100pts, I grabbed one to try.Did not decant, pop and pour. The nose, before I grab the glass, it captivates the table, fresh orchids in a vase filled with lychee juice.Quick look at the label, the drawing fits.Take a cool sip, exotic cocktail on fantasy island, the plane the plane.A stand alone treat, hard to beat, easy 100pts on uniqueness alone.

    10. Bobby Hamilton

Took to Amara with Joe, Angello and company Very floral rich and somewhat buttery; the last sips were the best.It can use some time in the bottle but drinking nicely now

    11. Patricia Mcbride

Intense tropical nose with peach, pear, apricot and pineapple but with rich mouthfeel and great acidity and freshness

The 2019 White Wine Distenta 1 is a stunning—and unique—blend of 41% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14% Petit Manseng, 12% Viognier and 7% Gelber Muskateller. Fruit comes mostly from estate vineyards, with 46% from Eleven Confessions, 32% from Cumulus and 7% from The Third Twin. Just 15% Chardonnay from the Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley is included-—2019 is the last vintage that any non-estate fruit will be included in the blend. It was fermented in barrel and matured on its lees for about 23 months in 64% new French oak barrels, puncheons and demi-muids and was racked just once prior to bottling. Manfred Krankl especially likes the 150+-year-old wood that the Austrian cooper Stockinger uses to craft its staves. The 2019 white offers high intensity aromatics, with layers of peach, kiwi, candle smoke, petrol and green herbs. The full-bodied palate is concentrated, savory and layered, with loads of alluring, spicy accents. What really sets this wine apart is its broad, satiny texture as it glides through the mouth into a tremendously long finish. Krankl notes that the lees-stirring regimen for this wine helps to build texture, and the buildup of lees on the inside of the barrels better integrates its new oak character.

Starting with the white, the 2019 Distenta I White is pure perfection, and there’s not a finer white coming out of California today. Coming from a final blend of 41% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14% Petit Manseng, 12% Viognier, and the rest Gelber Muskateller, it spent 23 months in 64% new French oak. It offers a heavenly bouquet of caramelized oranges, toasted bread, honeyed citrus, and almond paste. This carries to a full-bodied, deep, concentrated white with incredible intensity and depth, yet it’s never heavy or overbearing and is flawlessly balanced. These have a great track record of aging brilliantly, but you can’t go wrong drinking them in their youth, either. I know Krankl’s reds get all the attention, but he continues to produce brilliant, brilliant dry whites. There were 824 cases produced.

    14. VIN

The 2019 White Wine Distenta I is a rich, potent, savory white. Dried pear, almond, dried flowers and chamomile give the 2019 its very distinctive, savory personality. There’s plenty of the volume readers have come to expect, with terrific freshness and plenty of complexity. There is an airy feeling to the finish that is quite attractive.
