Wine Description
Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard 2015 is a remarkable wine crafted by the renowned Ramey Wine Cellars, under the expert guidance of winemaker David Ramey. Named after the rocky site it hails from, Pedregal Vineyard is nestled on the lower slopes of eastern Oakville, where its 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot vines thrive in the iron-rich red soil composed of 85% basalt rock.
The 2015 growing season presented unique challenges, beginning with the warmest winter on record, which led to an early bud break. Subsequently, cooler and wetter spring weather resulted in an extended bloom period, ultimately yielding a small crop with concentrated flavors due to uneven fruit set. Throughout the warm summer months, the grapes basked in consistent warmth, leading to an exceptionally early harvest.
This vintage showcases a composition of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot, co-fermented to enhance complexity. The wine underwent native-yeast and full natural malolactic fermentations, accentuating its authenticity. Afterward, it was aged for an impressive 23 months sur lies, with bi-monthly batonnage, to gracefully integrate the tannins and harmonize with the new French oak barrels (Taransaud) used in the aging process. The wine was bottled without filtration, preserving its inherent character.
Jeb Dunnuck awarded this wine an outstanding 96 points, praising its resemblance to Pauillac with notes of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, mineral nuances, and a medley of red and black fruits. Its full-bodied richness, layered texture, and remarkable purity affirm its status as a classic Napa Cabernet in the inimitable style of David Ramey. This exceptional wine promises enjoyment over the next two decades.
With a score of 95 points from Wine Enthusiast, this classically made wine captivates with its grippy structure and Old-World characteristics. Its cedar, pencil shavings, and dried herb aromas intermingle with hints of clove, peppercorn, and a sanguine meatiness. Firm, integrated tannins and oak lead to a lasting finish, making it an age-worthy wine to savor from 2025 to 2030.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate also lauded this vintage with 94+ points, praising its deep ruby-purple hue and enticing aromas of mint chocolate, cedar, and toasted cardamom. Dense and rich on the palate, it exhibits ripe, grainy tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, concentrated finish. While approachable now, this wine will benefit from further bottle aging.
Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard 2015, earning 94 points from Wine Spectator, impresses with its sage, mint, and sassafras aromas, accompanied by luscious raspberry and plum fruit. Its suave texture and seductive lingering finish make it an enchanting wine to enjoy from 2020 to 2030.
Vinous rates this wine with 93+ points, noting its mid-weight character and layered frame filled with red cherry, red plum, chocolate, and licorice flavors. While it may currently be in a restrained phase, with patience, this captivating Cabernet will further evolve and develop in the bottle.
Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard 2015 showcases the dedication of Ramey Wine Cellars and winemaker David Ramey to produce a stunning wine that exudes elegance, complexity, and the distinctive terroir of Pedregal Vineyard.

Fatima Johnson –
Superbly dry, elegant, complex, and balanced. Outshines 2008, slightly milder than 2007.
Preston Yoder –
Review: Full-bodied, concentrated flavors of dark cherry, plum, espresso, dark chocolate, toasted vanilla, and oak. Long, persistent finish with hints of dried herbs and Oakville earth. Expensive, but worth it. Drink from 2018 to 2030. 95 Pts.
Betty Lopez –
Concentrated fruit, structure, depth, richness, and impeccable balance; aromas of cassis, dark plums, roasted herbs, mocha, heirloom tomato and anise.
Ernesto Pullen –
Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with Petit Verdot blend from Oakville Vineyards. Full-bodied, dark purple, black fruit, earthy, and vanilla undertones. Young with firm tannins and great long finish.
Joni Sparks –
High-toned, vanilla, dark fruit, and earth. Full-bodied but light. Fruit-forward, elegant, and soft. Long finish with fine tannins and great balance.
Christopher Dolan –
Red brilliance. Nose of blackberry, floral, blueberry, and spice. Palate has chocolate, pepper, saline, blackberry, black currants, and soil. Finish is medium acid and tannins.
Ella Ferrer –
Fruit-forward with a leathery finish and high alcohol content – 15%. New world style. BAM!
Vincent Guglielmi –
Dark fruit and high alcohol (15%) but lacks elegance and complexity. Expensive at $225. Joseph Phelps Insignia may be better and Mondavi Reservé offers better value. Needs 5-6 days of air to show potential. 91-93 pts.
Donna Mckneely –
Cab had nice texture, but too much oak muted the aromatics. Improved over time.
Emily Barden –
Silky mouthfeel, notes of green bell pepper, dark cherry, cassis, and smoke. Elegant blend, great job in a tough vintage.
Lucile Effinger –
Tasting Notes: Herbal, grilled bell pepper, wet slate, burnt greens. Sharp vegetable tones with a long finish. Promising elegance and complexity. Drink after late 2017.
Thomas King –
Delicate, yet packed.
Evelyn Muzzey –
Day 1: tight and wound up. Day 2: still wired. Day 4: OMG, singing! Beautiful Napa cab, rich and balanced with a long finish. Cassis, herbs, spice, black & blue fruits. Lovely effort.
Andrew Lawson –
Napa Cabernet with intense aromas of black fruit, oak, and spice. Youthful and robust with a medium (+) finish. Needs 3-5 more years of aging.
Carl Yu –
Vintage has led to a wine with green bell pepper and herby notes. Great mouth coating fruit with seamless silky tannins and a long finish.
Gwen Austin –
Ramey Wine is a consistently good choice. This wine has a rich mouthfeel with notes of ripe dark fruits, blackberry liqueur, and chocolate. With a little more aging, it will drink well for 20 years.
Richard Hamrick –
Light with slight olive undertones. Medium minus color and low intensity fruit notes.
Beatrice Garrett –
2013 MW Institute American Cabernet Tasting: black cherry and cassis on the nose and palate, big body, taster-friendly, rich fruit, needs 4 years to peak and can age 20 years, long finish. Delicious.
Louis House –
Fruit-forward with blackcurrant, plums, tobacco, and vanilla. Fresh acidity with chewy tannins and notes of ink, cedar, and menthol. Oak dominates the finish.
Karen Lockwood –
Review: Vibrant with a strong aroma. Better to age for a while. No regrets.
Frank Lear –
Powerful and generous on the nose, with great acidity and ripe tannins. Lovely fruit and a spicy finish. Approachable now, but will improve with age. Excellent.

Decanted for 3 hours, this wine boasts a great structure, delicious fruit, and layers of flavor.

Smooth and luscious, no food needed. Wonderful on its own after decanting for four hours.

Dilute with blackcurrant and stewed peppers.

Paulette Martinez –
Berry explosion!

Rebekah Etheridge –
2014 vintage surpasses 2013.
Laura Cloud –
Harrison Okeechobee steak: perfect pairing for red wine.
Douglas Brissett –
PNP is a big, juicy wine with strong oak notes. It’s better enjoyed alone than paired with food, lacking the necessary tannins and acidity for a successful match.
Ruth Mcauliffe –
A smooth, easy-to-drink wine with notes of cherry and red fruits, plush tannins, and a medium length finish. Has Bordeaux blend features in texture.
Kerry Moody –
Cabernet from Napa Valley with dusty notes of cocoa, black currants, and blueberries. Smooth, broad, and balanced with a good level of complexity. Overall, a winery that left a great impression.
Herbert Johnson –
Great fruit concentration and graphite notes. Well balanced on its own.
Patricia Limberg –
Consistent with a bottle tasted a year ago, lacked acidity and tannic structure. Not worth the money, no wow factor.
Nathan Furlong –
Gnarly tannins, high acid, long finish, dark fruit.
Bessie Bodkin –
Aging well, enjoyable now.
Grace Freeman –
2010 is good, but not as great as 2008 and 2009. After two hours of decanting, the wine improved and became more complex. It’s worth aging for a few years.
Ed Guerra –
Enjoyable but lacks punch. Drink.
Shawn Crouchet –
Notes of red cherries, raspberries and cedar with firm tannins that lead to a 10-second finish.
Gillian Anderson –
Needs long decant, opens up with long finish.

Napa cab with floral aromas, dark colors, and flavors of blackberry, blueberry, and cassis. Good acidity with a medium+ finish.
Cindi Muniz –
Well-decanted wine with minimal sediment. Opens up nicely and has a strong, balanced fruit flavor. Will only get better with age.
Jesse Ball –
Soft, round, fruity, and enjoyable with a 3 hour decant. K. loved it, but wondered about the taste of bing cherries.
Shirley Wood –
Ruby red with aromas of tomato leaf, fig jam, blackberries, tobacco and spices. Tart palate with hints of cocoa. Medium-plus body with high acidity and tannins. Long finish. Best enjoyed after aging for 10 years. Super Tuscan style.
Alice Rose –
Big, beautiful and structured with notes of cassis, cocoa, tomato leaf, and cigar box. Aged for 24 months in new oak with a 20-day ferment and twice daily pump overs. Tasted at the winery.
Kerry Angel –
Day 1: Intense bell pepper notes, round tannins, and overwhelmed fruit. Day 2: Leather and dark fruit with a long finish. Wish I had decanted on Day 1. Keeping one bottle to age.
Sandra Dorval –
Ripe with dominant licorice notes.
Rachel Heuer –
Opaque purple wine with cassis and garrigue on the nose. Dark berries and five spice powder on the palate with a medium-length finish. Tannins still grippy on day one, but softened slightly over three days. May score higher with age.
Beulah Hensley –
Wine needs decanting and patience. Medium body with high tannins and acidity. Improves after 30 minutes. Best years ahead.
Kelly Lopez –
Gorgeous complex nose with spiced oak and vanilla clove aromas over fruit. Oak is powerfully present with signature Oakville berry flavor and lots of grip. Spectacular wine with a 60 second finish. Mature and at the tippy top of the hill.
Kristin Lickliter –
Classic, full-bodied Cali Cab. Decanted for 5+ hours. Perfect with Thai grilled chicken, spicy morning glory, and pad thai. Magical.

Complex cabernet with excessive oak.
Cheri Bishop –

Great first drinking window, expressive and intense with ripe fruit and strong spicy core, alongside minerality. Structured and fresh. 93/94pts. No decanting necessary.
Frederick Brannen –
Dark red with aromas of green pepper and menthol. Grippy tannins with refreshing acidity, flavors of dark fruit, minerality, and a hint of cola. Long finish. Very nice.
