Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a standout wine that combines tradition with a modern twist, brought to life under the watchful eye of winemaker Alex Stewart. This exquisite bottle is crafted at the esteemed Quilceda Creek winery, located in the heart of Washington’s wine country. It’s a wine that captures the essence of its region, providing an unforgettable tasting experience.

The Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, primarily sourced from the Champoux Vineyard (90%) with a small but significant contribution from the Mach One Vineyard (10%), is a testament to the quality of these vineyards. The wine undergoes meticulous aging for 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels, ensuring that each sip delivers a depth of flavor and a complexity that is truly remarkable.

Upon pouring, the wine presents a mesmerizing color palette that captures the eye, deep and inviting. The aroma is a lavish bouquet of mint, black fruit, cinnamon, and sandalwood, with an undercurrent of blueberry and floral notes that promise an engaging tasting journey. This fragrance is the prelude to a tasting experience that is both rich and harmonious.

The palate is greeted with a blend that is nothing short of spectacular. The Creek Cabernet Sauvignon carries flavors of dark red and black fruits, elegantly intertwined with subtle notes of rosemary and spice, all balanced by a vibrant acidity that adds a fresh dimension to the wine. The texture is silky, with fine tannins that weave through the tasting experience, providing a structure that is both firm and inviting.

Critical acclaims for this wine underscore its exceptional quality. James Suckling awarded it a stunning 98 points, highlighting its seamless integration of flavors and beautifully integrated tannins. Vinous praised its elegance and depth, giving it 96 points for its bombshell aroma and long, staining finish. Owen Bargreen’s perfect score of 100 points celebrates the wine’s generous palate, concentrated fruits, and elegant mouthfeel, calling it a “show stopper” and possibly the finest Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ever tasted.

The Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is more than just a wine; it’s a reflection of meticulous viticulture and winemaking. The winery, with its commitment to excellence, has once again proven its ability to produce world-class wines. This Cabernet Sauvignon, with its rich layers of flavor and impeccable balance, is a proud addition to the Quilceda Creek wine portfolio.

Previous vintages of Quilceda Creek wines, including the renowned 2020 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon and the exceptional 2014 Quilceda Creek Cabernet, have set a high bar for quality and excellence. The 2020 vintage, with its Quilceda Creek CVR 2021 and the 2020 Quilceda Creek Palengat Cabernet Sauvignon, showcased the winery’s ability to blend complexity with elegance, offering rich layers of flavor that captivated critics and enthusiasts alike. The Quilceda Creek Vintners have consistently demonstrated their expertise in crafting world-class wines, with the 2015 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2016 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon standing out as examples of their dedication to excellence. The 2018 vintage further solidified Quilceda Creek’s reputation, highlighting the winery’s commitment to producing premier Washington State wines that are both expressive and memorable.

The Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from prestigious sites like the Palengat and Wallula Vineyards, encapsulates the essence of the region with its lush profiles of red and black fruit, notably black currant. This full-bodied wine, crafted under the expertise of Paul Golitzin, director of winemaking, beautifully integrates the structure of Cabernet Franc with the intensity of Champoux, Lake Wallula, and Palengat vineyards. As enthusiasts look forward to securing their bottles through en primeur futures, it’s important to note that shipping rates vary for destinations, including considerations for PGK (Papua N Guinean Kina). The price, once set, includes the wine being bottled and stored with the producer, though it excludes shipping and tariffs, and purchasers should check with duty and sales tax. This careful attention to detail ensures each bottle of Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia is a testament to Quilceda Creek’s commitment to excellence, stored and ready for those who appreciate the finer nuances of Washington State’s terroir.

The 2014 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon was another milestone year for Quilceda Creek, as it continued to impress with its depth and sophistication. This vintage, along with the Quilceda Creek 2014 Cabernet, exemplified the winery’s knack for blending the finest grapes from select vineyards to create wines that are not only structured and complex but also beautifully balanced. Whether it’s the 2020 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon or the Quilceda Creek 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, each bottle from Quilceda Creek tells a story of meticulous winemaking and a passion for excellence that spans decades, making Quil Ceda Creek a symbol of luxury in the world of wine.

Enjoying this quilceda creek cabernet is an experience that goes beyond the glass. James Suckling
With 90% of the grapes from Champoux Vineyard and 10% from Mach One Vineyard, this blend could have been labeled Horse Heaven Hills and is certainly no less a standout than the vineyard-designate bottlings. Mint, black fruit, cinnamon, sandalwood, blueberry and floral notes form a seamless whole, wrapped in beautifully integrated, fine tannins.

The 2021 ‘Columbia Valley’ mainly comes from the Champoux Vineyard (90%) with the remainder coming from the Mach One Vineyard. A range of Cabernet Sauvignon clones are blended into this wine that spent 20 months in all new French oak before bottling. The aromatics really pop here with violets alongside potpourri and Turkish coffee, sandalwood, allspice dusted dates and shades of black licorice. The palate is generous, weightless and very generous as this is a total show stopper. Concentrated blue and black fruits with walnut, with creme de violette all brilliantly combine with the elegant mid-palate mouthfeel. Finishing extremely long, this is nothing short of perfection in a bottle. I don’t say this lightly but this is arguably the finest ‘Columbia Valley’ Cabernet Sauvignon that I have ever tasted. Give this three hours or more in the decanter if enjoying now. Drink 2024-2044

Aromatically stunning. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bombshell, opening with a mentholated freshness that gives way to sweet sage, sandalwood, lavender, white smoke and cinnamon-dusted currant. It's elegant yet sincere, with silken textures and vibrant acidity that motivates its depths of dark red and black fruits, all complicated by hints of rosemary and spice. This finishes long and staining, with beautifully round tannins that present a structured yet not severe sensation. The 2021 tapers off long and unexpectedly fresh. This is a blend of 90% Champoux and 10% Mach One.

The history of the Columbia Valley wine region dates back to the 1860s when grape cultivation first began. The area, approved as an AVA in 1987, spans over 11 million acres in the southeastern corner of Washington State. It encompasses renowned sub-AVAs such as Red Mountain, Walla Walla Valley, and Horse Heaven Hills, situated around the Columbia River and its tributaries, the Walla Walla, Yakima, and Snake rivers. The valley's topography, shaped by glacial floods from Lake Missoula during the last Ice Age, boasts diverse soils ranging from volcanic to alluvial, thanks to the deposition of materials over time.
