The Gowan Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 is a product of the impeccable winemaking done by Kristen McMahan of Goldeneye Winery. Situated in Anderson Valley in the Sonoma Coast AVA of California, the vineyard is inhospitable for many grapes but yields incredible results for Pinot Noir. The cool coastal environment of the valley provides primarily moderate temperatures that are perfect conditions for the slow ripening of this specific varietal.

An initial inhale of the Gowan Creek Pinot Noir 2019 reveals lovely aromas of glace cherry, blueberry pie, and fresh rosemary. On the palate, the blueberries take center stage and give a luscious mouthcoating experience. These fruits are framed by a sleek acidity that boosts the flavor profile and helps bring out flavors of pennyroyal and moist earth. The finish, while long and resonant, is not burdened by heavy tannins but rather has a lighter, brighter side to it, which is a result of the cool climate of Anderson Valley.

The Gowan Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 is a rich expression of the Pinot Noir varietal that reflects the ideal climatic conditions of the Anderson Valley. Kristen McMahan expertly combines the vibrant acidity and the mild tannins of the area and results in a flavorful, yet balanced Wine. This is a truly impressive vintage of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir that will dramatically enhance any table.

“Black cherry, currant, and plum flavors with a spicy finish. Amazing.”

    4. Stormy Crawford

Aromas of earth, charcoal, and anise. Flavors of dark berry, plum, and baking spices with medium plus acidity.

      Top pick: Goldeneye Pinot.

Deep garnet color with a nose of plum, cassis, and blueberry. Balanced black cherry flavors with cinnamon and mulberry, followed by a light lingering finish.

    9. Lisa Maring

Delicious black cherry, plum, and cocoa dust scents with a finish of spice and forest floor.

    10. Vivian Vega

Subtle blueberry and cherry notes on the nose with earthy undertones. Smooth and light on the palate with a hint of tobacco carrying the Pinot Noir.

    11. Deborah Cody

Great CA pinot with black cherry, cedar, and black pepper notes. Soft tannins, medium acid, 14.5% alcohol. Delicious but pricey compared to similar options.

    12. George Aste

Moderate acidity, fruit and vegetal flavors. Muddled, but may improve with time. Average for 2012 Gowan Creek.

    13. Marilyn Beale

      Smoky.

    14. Joy Kitchen

Fantastic Anderson Pinot with rich dark berry flavors and earthy notes. Perfectly balanced with a long finish.

    15. Dorothy Ellis

Robust Pinot, better for sipping than food, good structure to lay down longer. Mellowed fruit, complex and smooth, slight acid on finish, notes of clove and violet. Enjoyable.

    16. Alisha Austin

Goldeneye Pinots at their sweetest spot, perfect in the glass!

    17. Darron Dahl

Inky color, medium legs, no sediment. Smells of blackberry, black currant, cherry, prune, and light toast. Tastes of blackberry, black currant, prune, and cherry. Medium/full body, smooth texture, medium finish, low acidity.

    18. Denise Rhode

WineLA’s Pinot Taste Off in Downtown LA: Blind scored. Nose has violets. Smooth and very good with slight camphor finish.

    19. Frances Day

Mendocino has an oaky nose with sweet and sour fruit. A medium/big body with a medium/long finish. Tasty, but needs 2 years. At $84, pass on it.

    20. Louis Gossett

Delicious taste – perfect for 4th of July.

    21. Craig Sandefur

Overly oaked with artificial fruit flavors, not my preference.

    22. Elodia Young

Great wine- balanced acidity with notes of bing cherry and blueberry.

    23. Barbara Nealy

Smooth and well-balanced with ripe berries and a touch of spice. Nice wine from a difficult vintage.

      Smooth wine, but corked.

    26. Felecia Fernando

Thanksgiving special at Fleming’s in Walnut Creek with an elegant, full-bodied wine that complements turkey and fixings perfectly. Try the Upper bench bottling too.

    27. Fernando White

Robust Pinot Noir with classic red berry fruit, savory spice, and earthy flavors in balance. Perfect with pork roast.

    28. Laura Risher

Aromas of cloves, tobacco and coffee cake with a dark rhubarb taste. Earthy with medium body. Very nice.

    29. Michael Boyd

Delicious wine with lush fruit, woodsy overtones and balanced acidity.

    30. Patricia Hamilton

Bright ruby, Volnay-like nose, red cherries, pomegranate, mid-body, soft tannins, semi-lush finish, slightly hot. $84 winery sample.

    31. Maggie Austin

Blue fruit with earthy undertones. Medium finish. Decanting recommended. Age for optimal taste.

    32. Terri Fields

Great structure, but lacks fruit/character. Not bad, but not interesting. Disappointing for the price.

    33. Warren Addison

Unbalanced wine with big coffee and earthy aromas, but a strange sweet tart and pixie stix aroma. Lush mouthfeel with a powdered candy taste on the finish.

    34. Saul Moralis

      Excellent wine!

    35. Craig Dodge

Great 7-year-old wine with dark fruit and tannins. Delicate style, highly recommended.

    36. Lindsay Garcia

Cranberries, pepper, and herbal notes make for an A-/B+ wine.

    37. Danny Beard

Nose: Strawberries, raspberries, mint, grass. Palate: Mint, strawberries, fruit compote, red licorice.

    38. Edward Bass

Dense Pinot, sweet and acidic. Short finish, lacks flavor. Underwhelming.

    39. Andrea Lampley

Goldeneye 2012: Bold fruit, mild tannins, smooth texture. Beats Williams Selyem. Drink up, highly recommend.

Goldeneye vintage is our favorite. Dark fruit and bramble on the nose. Smooth with good depth and a structured finish. Perfect balance between bright red fruit and a darker core. Can’t wait to enjoy the second bottle in a year.

    46. Frances Camacho

Luxurious and sturdy with flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, and raspberry compotes, dark chocolate, and blood orange. Modest acid and slightly grippy tannin. Enjoyable now with 10 years of evolution ahead.

A- rated wine with notes of red fruit, Italian herbs, cedar, eucalyptus, and smokey oak.

    51. Samuel Marchese

Fruit-driven with dark cherries, blackberries, and a hint of tobacco, this wine has a med+ length finish. Slightly chilled, it’s perfect as a meditation wine or after-dinner drink.

    52. Brenda Brown

Mature Cali Pinot, perfect with Thanksgiving turkey. Day 2: more depth, rated 93 yesterday and 94 today. Maybe it has time left.

Smooth and velvety with interesting complexity and lovely fruit. Low tannins make this Pinot stellar.

    67. Russell Carbone

Unexpectedly delicious with ripe red and black fruit and subtle sweet oak influence. Well-balanced 14.5% ABV with a big, voluptuous front palate and light finish.

    68. Megan Robinson
