Nestled in the picturesque Apalta Valley, Clos Apalta has become a symbol of Chilean winemaking excellence. This storied vineyard traces its roots back to a rich family heritage that began in 1827 when Jean-Baptiste Lapostolle founded a distillery near Versailles, France. Fast forward to 1994 when Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle, the great-granddaughter of Jean-Baptiste, embarked on a new venture in Chile, aiming to create an exceptional wine and elevate the country’s winemaking standards.

Clos Apalta’s vineyards are strategically located with a unique micro-climate characterized by a semi-Mediterranean climate, allowing for the production of exceptional grapes. The vineyard’s 60 hectares are amphitheatrically laid out, benefiting from a mostly southeast exposure that shields the vines from excessive sunlight. The Tinguiririca River and the Andean precordillera hills create a balanced exposure to the elements, contributing to the distinct character of Clos Apalta wines.

One of the vineyard’s standout features is its century-old vines, planted between 1915 and 1920, including carménère and cabernet vines, some of which are 80 years old. The dedication to quality is evident in the high-density plantations and constrained yields, akin to those in Bordeaux, resulting in wines that are a blend of carménère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot.
