A lovely light to medium lemon core with a watery rim, the 2021 Rousanne by Weathereye is my favorite of the whites from 2021. Incredibly floral on the nose with notes of Meyer lemon oil, white chocolate, toasted almonds, crushed stone minerality, and bitter herbs. It’s a serious wine that will need some food at the table to come alive. Better in 2024 and then enjoy over the next decade.

The estate 2020 Roussanne is beautiful, with a clean, balanced, medium-bodied style that has everything in the right place. Crushed citrus, white flowers, hints of toasted bread, and some chalky, mineral-nuances all define the nose, and it's a seriously impressive white that will drink well for 3-5 years, and I suspect have a gradual evolution beyond that as well.

Weathereye Vineyard, situated on the windswept ridgeline of Red Mountain in Washington State's Red Mountain AVA, has quickly established itself as a notable winery in the region. Founded by Cameron Myhrvold in 2004, the vineyard covers 30 acres and is dedicated to growing Rhône, Bordeaux, and Spanish grape varieties. The unique aspect of WeatherEye lies in its meticulous vineyard management. The team has designed and managed the vineyard as a collection of "micro-blocks," adapting trellising methods and densities to match the diverse soils, topography, and exposures of the site. This approach, inspired by traditional techniques from France's Rhône Valley, enhances the character and distinctiveness of their fruit and wines. roussanne grape varietal
Roussanne, a white-wine grape known for its reddish-gold skin color when fully ripe, derives its name from the French word "roux," meaning "russet" or reddish-brown. Originating in the northern Rhône Valley of France, most of its plantings can still be found in this region today. Roussanne is frequently blended with Marsanne to create the renowned white wine blends of the northern Rhône, such as Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph, as well as in sparkling wines from Saint-Péray. In the southern Rhône Valley, it is also used in small quantities in both red and white wines, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The grape thrives in warmer climates with ample sunlight, making the southern Rhône Valley ideal for its growth. In cooler climates, Roussanne may struggle to ripen fully...Please check Roussanne for more information
