The Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyards 2017 is an impressive wine that represents the Stonestreet Mountain region and features the top Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley appellation. Nestled within the Mayacamas Mountains, this wine captures the essence of the region’s unique terroir and elevates the senses with its complex aromas and flavors.

In the glass, the wine reveals an enticing garnet hue, inviting you to explore its intriguing bouquet. The wine’s aroma is complex and includes notes of raspberry, dried blood orange, violet, and black tea, providing a sophisticated experience. As you taste, there are flavors of black currant, bramble, red plum, and milk chocolate that become more prominent.

On the palate, this Cabernet Sauvignon displays a rich and inviting character. The purposeful tannins provide structure and depth, while the wine’s considerable length and concentration leave a lasting impression. It strikes a harmonious balance between the aromatic allure and the signature structural elements of the Mayacamas Mountains, resulting in a pure reflection of the 2017 vintage.

The Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyards 2017 hails from the Alexander Valley, an esteemed American Viticultural Area (AVA) situated in California’s North Coast region. The vineyards enjoy a wide elevation range, spanning from 400 to an impressive 2,400 feet. This high elevation contributes to the wine’s exceptional quality, imparting a unique character to the grapes.

Crafted by winemaker Kristina Shideler, this wine is a blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon (98.5%) and a touch of Petit Verdot (1.5%). The meticulous winemaking process involves handpicking and destemming the grapes, followed by primary fermentation in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation in barrel. After 19 months of barrel aging in 38% new French oak, the wine was bottled on June 10, 2019.

Acclaimed by wine critics, the Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyards 2017 has received high praise. Wine Enthusiast awarded it an impressive 93 points, highlighting its strong tannin framework, earthy tones, and ageworthy structure. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded it 92 points, noting its generous black and red fruits, firm texture, and beautiful freshness.

This captivating wine embodies the spirit of Stonestreet Winery’s dedication to crafting exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon from their esteemed Estate Vineyards. With its depth, complexity, and age-worthy potential, the Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyards 2017 is an extraordinary representation of the Alexander Valley’s winemaking prowess.

      1. Stephen Fleming

Impressive dark red wine with intense Bing cherry notes, a hint of black pepper, and strong tannins. Smooth, but requires 5-6 more years for proper integration.

      2. Karen Hobbins

Vintage Wines Ltd.’s CA Cabernet Sauvignons & Blends: Hand-picked grapes, aged 18 mos in FR oak, 13.5% ABV. Closed, deep & potentially rich nose. Medium body with a slightly faint finish. Cellar for 1-2 yrs, then enjoy for 3. Highly rated by winealign.com, Ken’s Wine Guide, WA, and WE. Available from $30-$45. Tasted multiple times.

      3. Stella Norman

Promising but young. Grippy tannins overpower the Alexander Valley pedigree. Needs time to reach its full potential. Retail price uncertain, but worth the wait at $90 in midtown Manhattan in 2-3 years.

      4. Roy Cocke

Misc. CA Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Hand-picked grapes, aged in oak for 18 mos. Closed nose, ripe and deep. Medium body, fruity with a slightly astringent taste. Long, tannic finish with a touch of sweetness. Potentially a great deal in 2020. 90 pts WA & WE.

      5. Jacqueline Holmes

2012 or not, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderful value. Big berry aromas and dark fruit on the palate. A great choice to discover Stonestreet.

      6. Valerie Downing

Cabernet Sauvignons (4-CA, 1-S. Africa, & 1-Bordeaux) from Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA. Hand-picked grapes, aged 18 mos in FR oak. Closed with ripe, jammy notes. Smooth with a lingering finish. Best enjoyed from early ’19 through ’22. QPR @ $24.95. Highly rated by winealign.com, Ken’s Wine Guide, WA, and WE. Available from $30-$45. Also tasted on 7/29, 10/7, & 12/16/17.

      7. Clarence Hayes

Decent cab with red fruit and hints of jalapeno. Medium body, balanced acidity and tannins. Slightly bitter finish, may improve with time or longer decanting.

      8. Charlie Tarvin

Lacks complexity and freshness, with overripe chocolaty flavors. Not my preference.

      9. Amanda Brown

San Diego Wine Co.’s TOP Pick Wines for October: Lovely, balanced, and delightful. 90 pts from Ken’s Wine Guide and Wine Enthusiast. $28.99 is a great price.

      10. Anna Mcbee

Cabs & Blends by Vintage Wines Ltd. is a hand-picked, well-aged red with complex flavors. It improves with age. Rated 90+ points by multiple sources.

      11. Edward Dostal

Perfumed nose of red flowers and fruits with toasty oak. Rich mouthfeel, not heavy. Prominent oak, may mellow with time. Notes of cassis, redcurrant, violets, and graphite. Finishes with plum and dark chocolate.

      12. Marsha Rowlands

Dark ruby color, black cherries, blackberry, currants. Good mouthfeel.

      13. Leana Prater

Cabernet Sauvignon Under $30 (San Diego Wine Co.): Closed with hints of smoke, earth, and berries. Medium body, nicely balanced by acidity. Long, lip-smacking finish. 13.5% ABV. 90 pts Ken’s Wine Guide & 90 pts WE. $28.99.

Thoroughly enjoyed by all – Doug, Eunice, Ruth, and John.

      15. Steven Rosario

        Dark fruit, minerality. Developing.

      16. Walter Dahms

Stonestreet Dinner with Craig Ellick (1700 Degrees): Too fruity for my taste, but not bad.

      17. Robert Brown

2014 Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon is a great value wine. Approachable now with deep ruby color and aromas of blackberry, wet stone, and vanilla. Cherry and raspberry flavors with integrated tannins. Excellent now and will age well.

      18. Ramona Lloyd

Impressive Sonoma wine with soft black fruit, fresh herbs, and elegant palate. Medium body, smooth tannins, and tasty blackberry flavors. Excellent value.

      19. Arturo Greene

Solid Cabernet with good character and pleasant finish.

      20. Avis Brown

Great value for the price, highly recommend.

      21. Carlo Cramer

Green fruit with a hint of artificial oak.

      22. William Mcintyre

Review: Intense deep purple color with legs. Aromas of black cherry, vanilla, and graphite. Taste of black cherry, plum, vanilla, crushed rocks, and spice. Full-bodied with young tannins and high alcohol.

      23. Delbert Billings

Timeless elegance embodied by this producer’s classic style.

      24. Merle Barrios

Delightful, consecutive nights with this bottle.

      25. James Wedekind

Well-balanced, complete with currant and toast aromas. Mineral notes enhance the experience. Good flavors and finish. 4/5.

      26. Deborah Masom

Intense, sweet berries, flowers, and pepper. Heavy oak, lacks terroir expression. Well-made but overly polished.

      27. Joyce Rotunda

Vino Volo’s by-the-glass offering at Seattle Airport is a fresh and welcoming wine. Oak softens it, showcasing black fruit and cherry tones. Fruity, round, and surprisingly elegant for its young age. Best enjoyed within the next 2-3 years while still vibrant. Rating: Good 88-89.

      28. Fernando Johnson

        Great minerality.

      29. Matthew Macfarlane

Deep garnet color. Notes of tobacco, tar, and leather. Smooth with low acidity and tannins. Hints of chocolate. Well-balanced finish. Enjoyed at Mt. Washington Hotel.

      30. Stacy Johnson

        Possibly surpassing the 2013, delightful.

      31. Christopher Knowles

Great value wine with a rich aroma of black fruit, coffee, and spice. The palate follows suit with dark fruit, spice, and a medium-plus tannin structure. Overall, an excellent representation of its type, especially considering the price.

      32. Richard Tonn

2015 Stonestreet Estate Cabernet Sauvignon: Vibrant aromas of bay, bramble, and menthol dominate, with subtle undertones of dark raspberry and plum. Notes of bittersweet chocolate on the palate with supple tannins.

      33. Dawn Okumura

This young cab bursts with green pepper, oregano, baking spices, cedar, olive, plum, and blackberry. A vibrant representation of Alexander Valley.

      34. Maria Sanchez

Underwhelming wine lacking depth, with floral and mild fruit notes. Not terrible, but not interesting either.

      35. Steven Stallard

Needs time for fruit to develop. Harsh finish, almost a burn. Too dry for my taste.

      36. Michael Avey

#sonomastrong. Cheers to the resilience of Sonoma wines. 🍷🍇

      37. Nannette Teel

Ripe black fruit, hint of green. Supple palate.

      38. Olga Starrs

Malloy’s Big Reds Tasting: Retailer tasting. Enjoyable with cassis and black fruit notes. More red-fruited on the palate with medium tannins. Balanced and quite enjoyable.

      39. Trudy Sims

Disappointing. Light-bodied, overly tart and acidic for a cab. Dark fruit only appears mid-palate. Finish is medium long, with sudden layers.

      40. Steven Johnson

Dark currant, vanilla, smoke, plum, and mineral nose. Ripe, warm palate with firm tannins. Full-bodied, sweet currant, mineral finish. Rated 4/5.

      41. James Alves

Elevated cab with deep purple hue. Plum, cherry, and chocolate flavors. Well-made, full-bodied, and smooth tannins. Great with lasagna.

      42. Eugene Winstead

Velvety palate with notes of vanilla and ripe plum.

      43. Jane Rockman

Blind tasting at Leo’s place in Haberfield: Chocolate, sweet spice, plums, ripe, vanilla, juicy acidity, silky tannins, broad mid palate, plummy ripe black fruits. Easy to drink but pretty big. Reminded me of Sheridan. Went with Yankee Cabernet.

      44. Betty Kahn

This bottle surpasses our previous one with black fruit, earth, medium tannins, balanced acids, and a spicy finish. Pleasingly earthy on the palate, blends well with spice.

      45. Harvey Whitley

Grand Cru Cabernet: Ripe plums, pyrazine note, St Emilion-like aroma, juicy acidity, chalky tannins, warm finish.

      46. Victor Weimer

Bold and vibrant with a hint of green. Powerful with mountain tannins. Rivals Jordan and Silver Oak.

      47. Barton Snowden

Opaque deep purple wine with no sediment. High viscosity and 14.1% alcohol. Interesting nose of sour cherry, graphite, tobacco, and mint. High tannins, medium acid and alcohol. Tasted sour cherry, tobacco, and graphite. Medium finish. Imbalanced due to high tannins. Too young to drink now. Wait 2-3 years to try again.

      48. Dorothy Smith

        Unsatisfyingly dry, won’t repurchase.

      49. Kristen Theus

Chalky mouthfeel. Younger than expected. Lacks structure. Just OK for the price. Prefer the pricier “Rockfall”.

      50. Erika Smith

Green notes, elevated, extraction effort fell short. Tough tasting day. Overlooks Silver Oak, Jordan vineyards.

      51. Stuart Tolman

Clean and pure nose with currant, cherry pie, minerals, and sage. Redfruit palate with pronounced minerals and dominant tannins on night one. Tannins recede on night two, revealing cherry, kirsch, currant, blackfruit notes with toasty oak and mint. A lovely bargain at $40, ages well for 10-20 years. Try in 2025-2027.

      52. Lynn Stogner

Decent fruit-forward Cab, but lacks depth for the price. Not exceptional.

      53. Tina Madison

        Exceptional.

      54. Jay Curd

WSET Level 3, Sessions 1-3 in Brisbane, Australia: Deep ruby color. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, cassis, and black plum. Hint of green bell pepper and oak. Clean with medium intensity. Palate offers similar flavors with dryness and medium acidity. Very good quality, ready to drink now, but suitable for further ageing.

      55. James Wilson

Bold and vibrant, this 100% Cabernet wine showcases ripe and green notes with high octane intensity.

      56. Edmond Paris

Deepens with air, a nice discounted cab at auction.

      57. Mark Henriques

8 out of 10. Perfectly balanced.

      58. Tyesha Cole

Decent, but with a chalky taste.

      59. Kathleen Morales

        Decent, not extraordinary. Silky.

      60. Eddie Richardson

Good, not complex. Dark cherry color, short finish. Stonestreet made great chardonnay, but better Cabernet options exist.

      61. Jonathan Young

Young, plummy, and full-bodied, this wine pairs perfectly with steak. It has improved with time and scores a solid 90.

      62. Phyllis Tregre

This Alexander Valley cabernet is well balanced and approachable. It has a mid-weight profile with some complexity. While not ideal for long-term cellaring, it is enjoyable to drink.

      63. Nathan Chase

Jackson’s Family Wines – Introduction: Deep ruby with purple hue, cassis aromas, full-bodied with spicy black fruits and savory notes. Medium length.

      64. Sandra Hansen

Perfection in a bottle. Exquisite flavors, elegant finish. A true masterpiece.

      65. Julia Davenport

Delicious wine with smooth tannins, paired well with dinner and BBQ sauce. Not meant for long-term aging.

      66. Julie Frazier

WIML91: Dark garnet color. Aromas of black pepper, currants, plums, and black cherries. Flavors of Bing cherries, plums, raspberries, and currants. Medium acidity, firm tannin, full-bodied. Enjoy now with some air.

      67. David Akers

Smooth and enjoyable. No extensive description.

      68. Cynthia Jones

Boom + Batten in Victoria BC served two well-balanced Sonoma Cab Sauv bottles. Versatile and pleasurable, they paired perfectly with Thai Curry Mussels, Roast Rack of Lamb, and Steak Frites. Thanks JM.

      69. Brett Arvesen

Disappointing. Not worth the $50 price tag.

      70. Kayla Miller

Allow the next one to breathe and observe its transformation.

      71. Gayle Mabon

Excellent wine with a delightful blend of green, blackberry, and cedar notes. Smooth tannins. Highly enjoyable. From Sonoma’s high altitude vineyards near Skipstone.
