At first glance this commanding Cabernet Sauvignon displays aromas of pronounced blackberry notes along with black pepper spice, fresh cut pine, pencil shavings, dried herbs and a pleasing woodsy feel. On the palate there is a juicy entry framed quickly by firm, supple tannins. This is a complex wine, which shows its brilliant tension in youth, and will age gracefully in the cellar.

    1. Carolyn Tobin

From the winemaker:“The Reserve Cabernet is an expression of our favorite blocks within the gravel streak to the Eastern section of our vineyard. At first glance, this is a subtle, woodsy wine. Aromas of black pepper, cut pine, and dried herbs open up into more pronounced blackberry notes.”

    2. Gladys List

Pop n pour. Fabulous. Drinking beautifullly already. Luscious fruit with very little mild tannin. The left bank was harsh by comparison at this point and needs more time.

    3. WS

Shows the ripe and forward profile of the vintage, with slightly gushy plum, blackberry and boysenberry compote flavors leading the way. The back end slowly gives way to bramble and dried herb notes and slightly toothy tannins, all hallmarks of 2017. Lacks some refinement, but still well done for the vintage. Best from 2021 through 2026. 1,600 cases made.

    5. TP

This new release is a 100-year tribute for the Round Pond family’s “grand patri- arch.” Concentrated notes of melted dark chocolate, blackberry and sweet earth are luxurious and pro- found. Black coffee and black plum linger on the finish. Structured, robust and opulent, with even more room to mature in years to come.

    6. VIN

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Louis Bovet is a big step up in this range. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice, spice and leather all flesh out in the glass. The 2017 is plump, juicy and absolutely impeccable in its balance. Best of all, it will drink well upon release. This is very nicely done.
