The 2019 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich and layered wine with great balance. Blackberry, black cherry, cassis and plum fruit coat the entire palate in a horizontal, broad fashion. Complex notes of violets, sandalwood, soy, black truffle, walnut, forest floor and minerals are some of the descriptors that may be found in this complex and decadent wine. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from our Champoux (90%) and Mach One (10%) vineyards, is one of the finest Cabernets our estate has ever produced.

    1. WE

This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, with fruit coming from Champoux and Mach One vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills. Aged 20 months in 100% new French oak, the aromas offer notes of dried and fresh herb, incense, cassis, bittersweet chocolate, barrel spice and dark fruit, all still locked up tightly but well delineated. Rich, layered flavors follow. It shows the grace of the vintage but also the intensity of the producer and appellation.

    2. WA

Flirting with perfection, instantly impressive and marked with impeccable shine and polish, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon from Champoux vineyard (90%) and Mach One vineyard (10%). The Cabernet explodes out of a glass with exuberance and power, prancing with layers of juicy black fruit, plum compote, black raspberry jus and hints of cinnamon-spiced black cherries. Full-bodied and with a ripe attack, velvety tannins sway with a glossy mouthfeel that is seductive and hedonistic, and the wine displays a balanced structure with a generous frame. It somersaults to an ever-evolving finish that bursts with layers of complexity, finesse and richness. What a stunning bottle! Bravo! Two thumbs up! Only 4,125 cases were made for the world.

    3. IWR

Quilceda Creek’s Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is once again a spectacular release of this legendary Washington wine. Sourced from Champoux and Mach One vineyards, this begins to impress with its extremely attractive aromas of ripe dark cherries, currants and plums, which are accompanied by lovely nuances of violets, baking spices, savory herbs, gravel, and damp earth characteristics all taking shape. The palate is every bit as stunning, boasting a gorgeous full-body that is structured with beautifully polished, fine-grained tannins that are nicely integrated. Displaying wonderful overall balance and concentration along with remarkable purity and craftsmanship, the 2019 has it all. This is one of the finest vintages of the Columbia Valley Cabernet that I have had the chance to taste. Even at this infant stage this is an absolute knockout and it is certainly destined for a brilliant evolution ahead.

    4. JD

All Cabernet Sauvignon that’s 90% from Champoux and 10% from Mach One (both in Horse Heaven Hills), the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley spent 20-22 months in all new French oak. Gorgeous cassis, flowery incense, lead pencil shavings, camphor, and spicy oak all soar from the glass, and it’s full-bodied, has a deep, layered, incredibly layered mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. It’s another sensationally complex, layered, textured beauty from this team that’s world class in every way. It shows the elegant, seamless style of the vintage and is perfectly balanced.

    5. JS

Lovely aromas of black and purple fruit, tobacco leaf and sage. Full-bodied with fine, smooth tannins that are soaked in ripe, dark fruit. So much complexity and intensity here. Focused and structured, with a guiding note of black and red currant. Suede and coffee. Very long finish.

    6. VIN

Sourced mainly from the Champoux vineyard (90%) with a smaller part from the Mach One vineyard, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley utilizes clones 4, 8, 191, 337 and 685 with mostly clone 8 selections in the blend. Incredibly aromatic right now, it shows gorgeous black rose petals, crème de violette, sagebrush, black walnut, sandalwood and blueberry compote tones, giving a level of aromatic complexity that is unrivaled in the state. The palate is silky and elegant with a downright soft texture. Deeply concentrated and wonderfully structured, with smooth tannins, this gorgeous wine is already beautifully evolved at the two-year mark and will continue to deliver drinking enjoyment for at least another 15 years. Drink 2021-2041

    Columbia Valley

The history of the Columbia Valley wine region dates back to the 1860s when grape cultivation first began. The area, approved as an AVA in 1987, spans over 11 million acres in the southeastern corner of Washington State. It encompasses renowned sub-AVAs such as Red Mountain, Walla Walla Valley, and Horse Heaven Hills, situated around the Columbia River and its tributaries, the Walla Walla, Yakima, and Snake rivers. The valley's topography, shaped by glacial floods from Lake Missoula during the last Ice Age, boasts diverse soils ranging from volcanic to alluvial, thanks to the deposition of materials over time.
