Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, crafted by winemaker Matt Ward, stands as a testament to the winery’s dedication to excellence. The wine’s color is a deep, inviting red, reflecting its richness and depth.

On the nose, the wine is aromatic and high-toned, featuring exotic nag champa, Pride garrigue, mint, tart cherry, and blackberry. These elements combine to create a sensory experience that is both complex and harmonious.

Upon tasting, the palate is treated to an infusion of dark fruit, complemented by fragrant bergamot oil, cinnamon, anisette, graphite, and cedar. The fruit intensity and mountain-tannins are expertly balanced by mouthwatering acidity and a gravelly minerality, resulting in a layered and complex profile without excess weight.

The blend is composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Merlot, and 2.5% Petit Verdot, aged for 20 months in 50% new French oak barrels. The wine hails from an appellation that spans 65% Sonoma and 35% Napa.

Pride Mountain Vineyards produced only 2000 cases of this exquisite wine.

The 2019 vintage has garnered critical acclaim, scoring 91 points from both Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Advocate. Dunnuck praised the wine for its balance of power and elegance, purity of fruit, refined tannins, and a long finish highlighted by dark chocolate, green tea, fresh sage, and palo santo. Wine Advocate described the wine as full-bodied, rich, and powerful with notable herbal overtones, complemented by dusty tannins that suggest a potential aging period of 10″15 years.

    Mel's Notes
Color: The wine boasts a deep, inviting red hue that gives a sneak peek into its richness and depth.
Nose: Upon first sniff, you'll be enveloped by an aromatic, high-toned bouquet featuring exotic notes of nag champa incense mixed with the unique Pride garrigue aroma. This is complemented by refreshing mint, tart cherry, and lush blackberry scents, creating a complex and harmonious sensory experience.
    Palate:
Flavor Profile: Your palate will be treated to an intricate tapestry of flavors, ranging from dark fruits such as plums and blackberries to fragrant notes of bergamot oil. This is beautifully interwoven with warm spices like cinnamon and anisette, as well as earthy graphite and rich cedar wood.
Body of the Wine: The full-bodied nature of this wine is a testament to its premium quality, offering a rich and voluptuous mouthfeel without being overly heavy or cumbersome.
Tannin Structure: The mountain-tannins are expertly balanced, providing just the right amount of structure to support the wine's complex flavor profile.
Sweetness Levels: As a dry wine, the absence of sweetness allows the fruit and spice flavors to shine through in all their glory.
Acidity Levels: The mouthwatering acidity acts as the perfect counterbalance to the tannins, ensuring that the wine is well-rounded and harmonious.
Food Pairings:This wine would pair exceptionally well with a variety of foods, ranging from grilled meats like steak or lamb chops to hearty stews and rich, aged cheeses.

Coming mostly from the Sonoma side of the property (65%, with the other 35% from Napa), the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon features attractive shadings of sage and bay, classic cassis and cherry scents, with subtle cedar notes. It's medium to full-bodied and supple enough to drink already. Although the tannins are present, they're ripe and silky, adding a softly dusty flourish to the lingering finish.

I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a classic, impeccably made Cabernet offering plenty of darker blue, plummy fruits, some classic Cabernet herbal and cedary nuances, medium body, soft tannins, and a great finish. Drink bottles any time over the coming 10-12 years.
