Mayacamas SUNSET Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, crafted by Winemaker Braiden Albrecht, is a testament to the distinctive terroir of the Mayacamas Estate. Sourced from the Sunset Block, a newer parcel, this wine exhibits unparalleled intensity and nuance. The hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, grown organically on the rugged mountain slopes, undergoes meticulous winemaking processes. Fermentation in concrete and stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in various oak cooperages for 36 months, results in a wine of remarkable complexity.

Pouring into the glass, the Sunset Cabernet reveals a deep, garnet color. The aroma is a symphony of dark fruits, with notes of damson plum, cherry, and cassis, complemented by hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, it is tightly coiled, displaying the signature iron note characteristic of Mayacamas. The vibrant hum of red fruit, sage, and pencil shavings creates an expressive and lengthy experience. This sleek and elegant wine, with its precise finish, demands patience and promises rewards for those who cellar it. Critical acclaim, including a stellar 98 points from Vinous, underscores the exceptional quality and allure of Mayacamas SUNSET Cabernet Sauvignon 2018.

"A supersleek, tightly coiled wine, with an almost bristling iron note piercing a core of damson plum and cherry fruit, this races along with the vibrant hum of a tuning fork to a precise finish. Patience required. Best from 2028 through 2045."

"This is an earthy, classically structured wine of great pedigree and style. It goes against the grain of bigger and riper wines. Tangy red fruit, sage and pencil shavings make for an expressive, lengthy and complex experience of elegance and grace. This wine will do well in the cellar. Enjoy best from 2028–2038. "

"From a block of the vineyard that's rockier than others and gets more afternoon sun, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Sunset is a bit riper and concentrated than the other Cabs here, with plum, cassis and dark chocolate shadings. Medium to full-bodied, it's rich, velvety and long, a wine for the cellar."

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Sunset Block emerges from one of the newer parcels planted during the large redevelopment here that started in 2014. It shows a bit more brightness and energy than the main Cabernet bottling, with all of the vertical structure and overall intensity that is such a signature at Mayacamas. At the same time, the Sunset Block shows an elegant side of the property that is so alluring."

Mayacamas, a storied winery, is perched near the summit of Napa Valley's Mount Veeder sub-appellation. This historic estate has earned a stellar reputation for crafting classic Cabernet Sauvignon wines and exceptional Chardonnays. The winery's origins date back to 1889 when John Henry Fisher, an immigrant from Germany, built the stone winery and planted Zinfandel vines. However, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake forced Fisher to sell the winery during a period of bankruptcy. During Prohibition, Mayacamas continued to thrive by selling wine to the Church for religious purposes while discreetly running a bootlegging operation. In 1941, the winery was reborn as "Mayacamas" under the ownership of Jack and Mary Taylor. They replanted the vineyards with Chardonnay and Cabernet...check our brand Mayacamas

A Sonoma native, Albrecht's journey from UC Berkeley's agriculture program to Himalayan adventures and Southern Hemisphere harvests shaped his unique perspective. Joining Mayacamas in 2013, he rose through the ranks, steering the winery post-2017 fires. Humble about accolades, he credits the team for success, emphasizing quality over quantity. With a focus on organic practices, Albrecht, also a family vineyard steward, anticipates new challenges and flavors in Mayacamas' evolving story.

    History
Mount Veeder’s viticultural roots stretch back to the mid-19th Century. Although many vineyards flourished on this mountainous terrain by the dawn of the 20th Century, Prohibition halted viticultural activities. It wasn't until the 1960s, amidst Napa Valley's wine revival, that Mount Veeder saw resurgence. This unique region earned its American Viticultural Area (AVA) designation in 1990, an accolade that... ...Check Region for more information
