Crafted by the renowned Michael Mondavi Family, the M By Michael Mondavi 2018 is a testament to their commitment to excellence in winemaking. Guided by the expertise of winemaker Rob Mondavi Jr, this blend showcases a harmonious composition of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot, resulting in a truly exceptional wine.

With a deep garnet hue, this wine entices the senses with its complex aromas. The bouquet reveals luscious currant, plum, and blackberry preserves that seamlessly intertwine with mocha-infused toast, sweet tobacco, and a hint of melted licorice. These scents are underscored by a subtle yet inviting touch of floral essence.

On the palate, the M By Michael Mondavi 2018 is a masterpiece of balance and depth. The initial impression is one of sweet-seeming oak, with notes of vanilla and chocolate. These seamlessly give way to a generous burst of berries and dark plums, which unfold gracefully over the palate. The wine’s full-bodied nature is accompanied by soft, well-integrated tannins, creating a velvety texture that is both opulent and approachable.

This wine’s artful composition is punctuated by a finish that lingers long after the last sip, leaving impressions of blackberries, blackcurrants, and a delicate touch of graphite. The 97 points awarded by James Suckling aptly capture the vibrancy and elegance of this wine, while the 93 points from Wine Spectator acknowledge its reserved yet rich profile. Wine Enthusiast’s 91 points emphasize its gentle allure, making the M By Michael Mondavi 2018 a must-try for enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. Best enjoyed from 2023 through 2034, it promises a journey of flavor that remains unforgettable.

    1. WS

A ripe, polished style, with currant, plum and blackberry preserves lined with mocha-accented toast, sweet tobacco and melted licorice. Stays reserved in feel overall and relies a bit on the toast, but there’s ample fruit in reserve. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2034.

Sweet-seeming oak aromas of vanilla and chocolate lead to broad, generous berries and dark plums on the palate of this full-bodied, softly tannic wine. It’s big but gentle, and easy to appreciate.

Loads of blackberries and blackcurrants with graphite. Some orange peel and floral essence, too. Full body, dusty and pretty tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Juicy center palate. Flavorful, yet dialed-in at the end. Slightly austere, focused finish.
