l’aventure estate cuvee 2020, meticulously crafted by owner and winemaker Stephan Asseo at L’Aventure Winery, encapsulates the essence of Paso Robles’ unique terroir. This flagship wine, a “crazy,” high-end Paso blend, is a testament to Stephan’s departure from Bordeaux in pursuit of creating something unparalleled. The Estate Cuve 2020 showcases the depth, balance, texture, complexity, and finish that L’Aventure Winery is renowned for, making it a beautiful representation of its estate grown fruit.

The wine, a blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Petit Verdot, is born from the low-yielding (1.5 to 2 tons per acre) vineyards of L’Aventure, with a density of 2100 vines per acre. The commitment to quality is further emphasized by the aging process’”15 months in 81% new French oak and 19% 1-year-old French oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation occurring in barrel, ensuring no fining and no filtering to preserve the wine’s integrity and depth.

Upon pouring, the Estate Cuve reveals a deep ruby-purple hue, inviting one into a world of aromatic complexity. It offers sultry notes of jammy dark fruits, pencil lead, and violets, setting the stage for an olfactory adventure. Critical acclaim, such as the 99 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, highlights its singular concentration and elegance, alongside pure core of cassis and unfolding accents of licorice, cured meats, tobacco leaves, cedar, and truffle.

On the palate, this laventure wine is nothing short of spectacular. It is smooth, with well-integrated tannins and a bright fruit flavor profile balanced by a kick of minerality. The full-bodied, juicy, and alluring taste floods the mouth with layers of blue fruit, floral perfume, and spice, supported by powdery tannins. The finish is tremendously long and detailed, a hallmark of the l’aventure estate cuvee’s craftsmanship.

Echoing the sentiments of James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck, who awarded the wine 96 points each, the Estate Cuve 2020 is praised for its impressive depth, rich, voluptuous flavor, and firm yet silky tannins. The concentration is restrainedly plush and muscular, with a lingering finish that epitomizes the excellence of l’aventure winery paso robles. The bouquet’s big, black-fruited profile with notes of graphite, smoky oak, chocolate, and chalky minerality transitions beautifully to a palate revealing savory tannins, plenty of mid-palate flesh, and a beautiful sense of salinity that emerges with time in the glass.

L’Aventure Estate Cuve 2020 is a wine that not only stands as a pillar of l aventure winery’s portfolio but also as a beacon of innovation in the Paso Robles wine scene. It is a testament to Stephan Asseo’s vision and dedication, a wine that promises to age gracefully over 20+ years, inviting connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike to explore the depth and breadth of l’aventure paso robles. This wine, through every sip, tells the story of a winemaker’s journey from the storied vineyards of Bordeaux to the expressive terrain of Paso Robles, making L’Aventure Winery a distinguished landmark in the world of fine wines.

A blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Estate Cuvée is another outstanding wine from L'Aventure in the challenging 2020 vintage, offering singular concentration and elegance. Deep ruby-purple, it has a pure core of cassis and slowly unfolding accents of licorice, cured meats, tobacco leaves, cedar and truffle. Full-bodied, juicy and alluring, it floods the mouth with layers of blue fruit, floral perfume and spice. It is supported by powdery tannins and boasts a tremendously long, detailed finish.

Dark chocolate, a bit animalistic, so brooding and dark. Sumptuous texture, rich and deep yet vibrant too, this is plush and opulent but there is refinement here, you can feel the sculpting of the fruit and the tannins, there is nuance and detail to the different aspects. It's still quite massy and bold, it's a big style, lots going on with plenty of power and punch but a deliciously bright and lifted understone with acidity to keep it from being too heavy. Strawberry touches, blackberries, cinnamon, pepper, toast, tobacco and cocoa, all melding together with a lingering piquancy that lasts and lasts. A classic and memorable wine. Ageing 15 months in French oak (80% new, 20% one year old).

The 2020 Estate Cuvee is the flagship and checks in as 45% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Petit Verdot. It has a big, black-fruited bouquet with lots of graphite, smoky oak, chocolate, and chalky minerality. This carries to a full-bodied wine revealing the more savory tannins of the vintage, plenty of mid-palate flesh, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It picks up a beautiful sense of salinity with time in the glass and is unquestionably one of the top wines in this vintage.

Really impressive depth here. Violets, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, ink and chalk to the nose. Rich, voluptuous and flavorful with firm, but silky tannins. Concentrated, restrainedly plush and muscular with a lingering finish that goes on and on. 45% syrah, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 15% petit verdot.

A beguiling blend of dusty violets, crushed stone, musky black currants and grilled herbs makes the 2020 Estate Cuvée impossible to ignore. Racy yet supple, this soothes with its ripe red and black fruits while also exciting the palate through a core of zesty acidity. A staining of minerality lingers as the 2020 finishes with epic length and potency. Grippy tannins tug at the perimeters of the palate, leaving nuances of black licorice and clove to resonate. This radiant beauty has a very bright future. It's a blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot.
