Embark on a journey through Napa Valley’s diverse terroir with the Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, a masterpiece crafted by winemaker Megan Gunderson. This exceptional vintage, comprising 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, weaves a rich panorama on the palate, capturing the essence of Hall wines’ commitment to quality. Aged in 50% new French oak barrels, this wine emanates a deep ruby red hue with a hint of garnet at the edges, signaling maturity and complexity.

The nose unfolds with an inviting complexity, led by a delicate cedar note that intertwines seamlessly with ripe red currants and damson plums. Subtle hints of dried flowers and spice add layers of intrigue, showcasing the meticulous artistry of winemaker Megan Gunderson. The palate is a harmonious blend of bold cherry, cassis, and cedar flavors, creating a tapestry of fruit and earthy undertones. This expression is vibrant and expressive, a testament to the diversity of Napa Valley fruit.

Medium to full-bodied, the wine presents a well-balanced structure that embodies the characteristics of the exceptional 2019 vintage. Firm yet approachable tannins define the wine’s structure, providing a solid backbone without overpowering the fruit. The long finish is silky-textured, indicative of the wine’s aging in 50% new French oak. Striking a perfect balance between fruit sweetness and dryness, the ripe red and black fruits impart a natural sweetness complemented by the wine’s overall dry character.

This Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 received critical acclaim, earning 90 points from Wine Spectator, which notes a light cedar edge leading to open-knit red currant and damson plum flavors, with a light savory edge on the finish. Mel, offering 90 points as well, describes the color as deep ruby red with a hint of garnet, and praises the inviting and layered nose with its delicate cedar note and ripe fruit aromas.

Wine Advocate awarded this vintage 90 points, highlighting its medium to full-bodied nature and bold flavors of cherries, cassis, and cedar. Jeb Dunnuck, with a score of 91 points, commends the ripe red and black fruits, dried flowers, and spice defining the bouquet, describing the wine as upfront, soft, balanced, and utterly delicious.

The 2019 growing season, marked by ample rainfall and a warm, extended summer with foggy mornings, set the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The result is an exceptional vintage characterized by well-integrated acidity, dense texture, and great depth. The Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 not only delights the palate now but promises further development over the next decade.

Pair this wine with hearty dishes that complement its robust flavors and tannic structure, such as a grilled ribeye steak with a red wine reduction sauce, braised lamb shanks with rosemary and garlic, or aged cheeses like Pecorino or Gouda. Cheers to Megan Gunderson and the Hall team for yet another outstanding vintage, capturing the essence of Napa Valley’s finest in a bottle.
