Enticing aromas of blackberry, plum, and raspberry leap from the glass with underlying notes of caramel, dark chocolate, and rose petal. Fresh and vibrant flavors of cherry, pomegranate, nutmeg, and vanilla are seamlessly integrated with bright acidity, polished tannins, and a long, velvety finish.

    1. James Lee

      Safeway tasting: Dry, young, Bordeaux-like.

    2. Charles Rizzo

Medium-bodied ruby wine with a fresh, peppery, and red fruit character. Finishes with a crunch of red fruits.

    3. Laura Garza

Solid Cabernet Sauvignon. Delightful. Great with Tri-Tip Pot Roast and Roasted Veggies. Will buy and gift to good friends and family.

    4. Dustin Dunigan

Rich dark cherry and pepper aromas lead to a flavorful, medium-bodied palate. Delicious now but will peak in four years. Cellar-worthy for a higher score and a long finish.

    5. Lauri Lehrman

Young Napa cab with subtle coffee and tobacco notes. Dominated by dark fruit, chassis, and plum flavors. Medium+ body with a dry, medium finish. Needs a few more years of rest. Good wine, but questionable value.

    6. Ruth Embrey

Tight and tough with notable tannins. Needs time to soften up and come together. Notes of cola, pine, espresso, sweet oak, and sharp raspberry.

    7. Pearl Rocha

Decant this big cab for optimal taste. Good wine but not exceptional.

    8. Lorraine Cooper

      Worth the price after decanting.

    9. Nancy Walker

Bright and lively with red fruit aromas and flavors. Oak backbone with significant tannin. Delicious effort, thought it was a high-quality zinfandel.

    10. Patricia Sheehan

      Wine is already enjoyable.

    11. Gladys Britt

Smooth, dark brown. Filtered due to dried cork.

    12. Jeannette Palmer

      “Requires aging, full-bodied.”

    13. Travis Flores

Mediocre wine with poor value for money.

    14. Tyrone Brading

Impressive wine. Earthy with nice decanting.

    15. Robert Reed

Young wine, dry with bold tannins.

    16. Terry Lee

Dry Bordeaux-style wine with notes of graphite, tart berries, restrained spices, and tobacco/earth. Needs a few more years to open up.

    17. Desiree Kelly

Plum Market Luxury Tasting at Bad Hunter, Chicago IL: Ripe and oaky, but well balanced and enjoyable.

    18. Michael Seel

Napa cab with a modern twist. Oak and vanilla notes, bitter finish. Almost like a milkshake.

    19. Cristina Mischke

Good value Cal Cab, under $30. Red fruit, woody, chalky tannins, medium plus finish. 2013 vintage was more interesting.

    20. Deborah Mcfee

      Improved beyond recollection!

    21. Willie Lau

Favorite pick in a blind test.

    22. Maria Smith

      Excellent wine, will definitely repurchase.

    23. Joseph Hamlin

Raspberry sauce and leafiness on the nose. Pleasant tannins, recommend decanting. Promising aging potential. Really yummy!

    24. Todd Puente

Lacks depth and complexity. Not worth the cost.

    25. Irwin Pace

Past its prime, this wine lacks its original quality.

    26. Carlos Davis

Not exciting at first, but develops a delicious fruit and vanilla perfume. Too obvious for my liking. Dense with serious tannins.

    27. Sandra Galvan

Balanced and deep with interesting undernotes and ample finish. Great value for the price.

    28. Beatrice Bodrey

Aromas of blackberry, dry earth, and oak. Flavors of grippy tannins, red fruit, and high acidity. Oaky finish.

    29. Marco Dannenberg

Clos du Val Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, I’ve noticed something recently. Maybe it’s just the area that I’m in or maybe within the entire wine world, but lately, I’ve seen a resurgence in those wineries that have stood the test of time; that means predominantly California and more specifically, Napa., Recently I was asked to pour wines where the wineries date back to the formation of what I would call the modern age of wines. That means the years around 1960 to 1970 or so. Folks arriving in and setting up shop back then to sort of “get the ball rolling” as it were. It could be too, that after reading James Conaway’s book, “Napa, The Story of an American Eden” I have a stronger sense and acknowledgment of those early pioneers., Established more than 45 years ago, “John and Henrietta Goelet founded Clos Du Val in 1972. A descendant of Bordeaux’s famed wine merchant, Barton & Guestier, John had a vision of producing Cabernet Sauvignon that would rival the world’s best.” Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” the winery now encompasses three estate vineyards in Stags Leap District, Carneros, and Yountville. While it may not have received the notoriety of other wineries involved, their first wine, the 1972 Cabernet, was chosen to compete in the Paris Tasting in 1976. 10 Years later when Steven Spurrier did the 10 Year Anniversary rematch, the same wine took First Place. Impressive! , That’s the word I would use when I poured the wine at a wine tasting. Impressive! Wanting to be prepared, I had planned to decant the wine to allow its full potential to open up and for folks to make sure they are tasting the wine at its best. Surprisingly, after I opened the bottle and took a sip I realized that this wine was perfect just the way it was., Bright fresh dark fruit on the nose and palate tingling the senses and providing a smooth and long lasting slightly rustic finish. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, the wine sees a good amount of French Oak aging of 18 months, of which, 66% was new oak. That oak influence gives it a nice rounded feeling in the mouth and with a slight spice note, making you want to continue to enjoy the wine. , Clos du Val has been a family-owned winery since its beginning. No small task in this day and age. Their attention to their wines is a testament to the quality wines made from smaller producers set on, as John said, “producing Cabernet Sauvignon that would rival the world’s best.” What else makes this wine so formidable is its affordability. Retailing for $45, it was on sale for $40! That for a quality Napa Valley Cabernet with the provenance afforded by Clos du Val. Great job!, Cheers

    30. Carlos Wood

Smooth tannins with dark berry and gravel/pencil shavings. Nice.

    31. Jeanne Cozart

Dark purple with initial aromas of blackberry and plum followed by flavors of black fruit, baking spice, and cedar. Well-balanced and refined texture with a moderately long finish. Great QPR for Napa cabernet.

    32. William Yoshina

Black fruit, cassis, pyrizines, new oak dominate. Balanced with medium acidity, tannin, and alcohol.

    33. David Silverstein

Deep garnet color with aromas of under-ripe black cherries, coffee grounds, raspberry, eucalyptus, and rose pedals. Developing wine with med(+) acidity, high alcohol, med(+) tannins, full body, and long finish. Can be enjoyed now or aged further.

    34. Barbara Leonard

Flavors of spice and berry make for a good taste.

    35. Noma Sheneman

Balanced with nice fruit and a touch of spice. Ready to drink now, but can hold for another year or two.

    36. Jack Oetzel

Intense flavors, long finish, smooth tannins. Blackberry, black currant, chocolate, menthol. Comparable to $80+ Napa CS.

    37. Daniel Keys

Complex berries and stone fruits, soft tannins, lengthy finish. A steal at $40.

    38. Bobby Adams

Enjoyable wine with a deep purple color. Medium aromas of black cherry, black plum, and mint. Silky body with plush and juicy blue fruit and a medium(+) finish. Drink now.

    39. Michael Potter

Decent Napa cab with fruity and earthy notes, but lacks distinctiveness and has a short finish. Middle-of-the-road for its price point.

    40. David Mcneil

Weak Napa Cab. Not full-bodied, poor value. Did not pair well with steak.

    41. Jose Mcnabb

Bright cab with strong berry notes, vanilla hints, and cherry cola aromas.

    42. Ronald Huelse

      Ideal pairing for Italian cuisine.

    43. Armando Green

Enjoyable wine with notes of dark fruit, cedar, forest floor and tannins, balanced by bright acidity.

    44. James Stephenson

      Decant for 30 minutes.

    45. Chantal Shively

Great CdV Estate vintage with classic Cabernet flavors of cassis, tobacco, blueberry, and cigar-box. Balanced oak and smoke with integrated tannins and a long finish. Nice bottle.

    46. Arthur Hammond

Napa cab with a fruit-forward nose, medium body, and balanced tannins and acid. Dark fruit with graphite and menthol finish. Some dried cranberry notes over time. Decent value.

    47. Beverly Cook

      Promising potential for further development.

    48. Earl Rhodes

Disappointing aged Cabernet. Even and smooth, but unexciting with pungent alcohol on the nose. Either not good from the outset or in a dumb stage.

    49. Wm Lawson

Delightfully surprising with a unique blend of oak and deep fruit flavors. The finish is equally impressive.

    50. James Roberts

Mixed feelings, Renee enjoyed while Tim thought it was just okay. Worth the price to try again.

    51. Ruby Murray

Dark and clear with hot alcohol, fig, black pepper, mineral-stone-charcoal notes. Cherry, earth, tannin, fig, mineral-charcoal with medium body and grippy tannin. Fine wine overall.

    52. Christopher Macdonald

Improved vintage from last year, with leather, tobacco, cherry and pleasant must on the nose, and a lot of finesse on the palate after an hour decant. Enough tannin to age for a few more years. Very enjoyable surprise.

    53. Jason Sims

A 6-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Nicely balanced, fruit-forward, and delicious. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. 14.7% ABV. $50.

    54. Peter Glaspie

Moderate acid and tannins with pear notes on the nose lead to a longish finish with a hint of tobacco, leather and horse stall. Perfect with steak Diane.

    55. Jesse Belgarde

Aromas of blackberry, oatmeal, espresso, and savory notes. Approachable structure for a basic Napa Cab. Nice with more good angles for the region.

    56. Steven Piper

Kamen and Isocleles tasted in 2018. Neck and neck with Kamen.

    57. John Flores

Great value Cab with a soft, yet flavorful taste. Holds up well for days.

    58. Cathy Keitt

Requires air time. Jammy for 45 min, then improves with classic Clos du Val chocolate and coffee smoothness.

    59. Jose Trevino

Great California cab. Enjoy now or cellar for potential improvement. Bold fruit and smooth tannins, with no harshness.

    60. Leilani Rudy

Rich, velvety, and fruit-forward with well-integrated tannins. Decant for 2 hours for full flavor. Pair with filet and dark chocolate. Buy 2 bottles, hard to find.

    61. Ella Belk

Fantastic Napa Cab, big and bold. Perfectly paired with bone-in ribeye and filet. Wonderful!

    62. Bruce Campbell

Excellent Napa Cab with black currant, cherry, licorice, violet, cedar flavors. Well-balanced, structured to age 5-10 years with ripe tannins and a long finish. Drinking well now.

    63. Paige Ferreira

Fine nose of cassis, cherry, and fruit with old world acid/structure. Great mouthfeel and looong finish. Ready now, but will only get better with age.

    64. Fannie Morris

Full-bodied with firm tannins and flavors of currants, black fruit, and bay leaf. Balanced and long with chocolate and tobacco aromas. Decanted for 5 hours. Beautiful.

    65. Jeffrey Murdock

Full-bodied with balanced tannins. Notes of oak, plums, leather, and cassis. Allow an hour to open up.

    66. Olivia Camp

Deep magenta color. Nose of blackberry, black cherry, Boston cream pie, and granite. Smooth palate with medium tannins. Great QPR.

    67. James Ross

Cellared for 7 months, this wine has gained depth and earthy notes. Substantial mouthfeel with smooth finish. Good value.

    68. Roman Sundahl

Delicious and balanced Napa cab with vibrant fruit, dark fruit leather, and harmonious tannins.

    69. Ernest Evans

Great balance of fruit and acidity. Smooth.

    70. Alexander Best

Excellent Napa cab, perfectly aged. Need more!

    71. George Mastoris

Good cabernet. Needs to be decanted to reach its full potential. Comparable bottles available at better prices.

    72. Leo Jeffrey

Unique wine with deep cherry flavors and rustic, earthy notes. Slightly funky but intriguing. Good value for the price.

    73. Phyllis Johnson

Round with medium-full body and decent length.

    74. Vicky Petersen

Rich but not heavy, with cherry notes to open, mineral backbone and an acid pop. Consistent quality from a well-known label, drinks better than its under $50 price point. Safe bet.

    75. Katrina Bowman

Not a favorite. Tasted like a typical Cali Cab, not worth $55.
