This vintage was influenced by a mild winter with relatively dry weather conditions, leading to early bud break in the vineyards. The first flowers emerged in May, resulting in a heterogeneous flowering and fruit set due to varying temperatures and rainfall.

    The harvest, which took place from September 23 to October 9, benefited from occasional showers, particularly favoring the final ripening of the Cabernet grapes. The winemaking process involved a blend of traditional methods, with one-third of malolactic fermentation occurring in vats and the remaining two-thirds in barrels.

    This wine, predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, boasts a dense purple hue that foreshadows its profound character.       Early or not, I couldn’t resist opening this 2019 L-B. Decanted for a few hours and paired with entrecôte, it was a great experience. Some claim it’s the best L-B ever made, and while I can’t confirm, I can say I love it! Easily a 95+ rating. Need more!

The last vintage produced in Lynch-Bages old winery, it will be interesting to compare this benchmark wine with subsequent vintages over the coming years.

This is incredibly impactful from the very first taste, it grips the mouth and courses with power but in a well balanced, harmonious way. Mouthwatering fruit juice is backed by tannins that, although fill the mouth entirely, come across as quite ripe and soft with a backbone of menthol cooling freshness that goes from start to finish. A Pauillac with such an enticing dark profile, concentrated and direct but also so much to give. Still not near it’s potential yet.

Based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 75% new French oak, its dense purple hue is followed by an incredible bouquet of pure crème de cassis, freshly sharpened cedar pencil, spring flowers, smoke, and graphite, with an almost liqueur of rocks-like minerality. A massive, incredibly concentrated Lynch-Bages, Jean-Charles has hit a home run in the vintage, and this sensational wine has building, perfect tannins, insane purity, and a finish that won’t quit. It has the purity, finesse, balance, and depth to offer pleasure not only today but to evolve for 40 to 50 years. Smart money will hide these for a good 7-8 years, but wow, what a wine. Bravo.

Time in the glass brings out sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange and pomegranate and mint. The 2019 is a great, great, great Lynch Bages. It reminds me of the epic 1989, but with the youthful grip of this vintage. A towering Pauillac, the 2019 Lynch Bages will make a great addition to any cellar.

    Tasted blind. Very dark crimson. Intense, layered nose. Complete, composed, a little spicy. Lots of interest here. Youthful, but with lots tucked in for the future. Interesting topnote. Satin texture on the mid palate before a mass of tannin makes its presence felt. Such a way to go! Rich with iodine notes. Bonfire aroma and really quite painful acidity. Lots of sandy tannin. Not married yet.
