The Chateau Gloria 2019 is a stunning red blend from the historic commune of Saint-Julien, masterfully produced by winemaker Henri Martin. Made from a classic Bordeaux varietal of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the wine is created using traditional methods in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks and is aged for 14 months in French oak casks. This superbly situated wine carries ripe black fruit aromas of black currant, blackberry and plum, along with smoky notes of mesquite and tobacco, wrapped around a core of iron and subtle salty marine scents.

On the palate, the wine displays a vibrant core of ripe and fleshy fruit flavors, backed by lively acidity and powdery tannins, which provide excellent structure and persist on the youthfully firm finish. The 2019 Gloria is well-balanced and offers a highly enjoyable drinking experience that will linger on, due in large part to the mild, temperate climatic conditions that it was grown and harvested in. The hard work and dedication of Henri Martin is detectable in the final product, as it is recognized worldwide for its quality and distinction. Enjoy the Chateau Gloria Saint-Julien 2019 now and cellar it for a few more years to reveal its full potential.

    1. Benny Eike

Lush, fresh fruit with ripe tannins. Better than the 2016. 93-95 Pts.

    2. Kyle Pena

Gloria’s barrel sample at Lord’s en primeur is the best I’ve had, with a balanced 14.2% alcohol. However, at £346 per case, it’s pricier than Chasse Spleen under £300.

    3. Susan Baldwin

Generous and expressive with ripe notes of fruit, spices, and oak. Balanced palate with polished tannins and good length. 91-92+.

    4. Mark Jones

This wine is wow-worthy. It’s soft, elegant, and has succulent fruits. This is a super wine and a contender for Gloria’s best wine ever produced. 93-95 Pts.

    5. Peggy Corbridge

Tight and tannic with attractive plum notes. Nice line and length, solid. 89-91.

    6. Ruth Moshier

Elegant and juicy with sweet berries, freshness, and length. Enjoy over the next 2 decades after cellaring for 4-6 years. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc.

    7. Robin Becker

Youthful with dark, intense aromas of blackberry, cassis, cedar and leather. Practically spring-loaded entry and long finish. Better in 3-5 years.

    8. Kim Mccurdy

Park Monroe Tastings: Chambord nose, great mouthfeel, wet stones.

    9. Lisa Reynolds

Review: 2018 Gloria is complex with a big and open aroma. Initially, mouthfeel is gritty, but it resolves with air. The flavor profile is mostly red fruit with some coffee notes. Finish is easily 30 seconds. It might be the best Gloria ever on early tasting. 94+

    10. Jose Sawtelle

Floral and delicate with a sea-kissed nose. Plump and juicy on the palate with a chalky, mineral finish.

    11. Jean Phan

Airoldi Bordeaux En Primeur 2020 at Quay Restaurant in Sydney: Savoury brambles, blackcurrant, earth, sweet spice, juicy fruit, balanced tannins. Long and good.

    12. Benjamin Mcdaniels

Nose: Tobacco, cedar, black currants. Palate: Soft, refined, elegant, fresh, with blackberry, cocoa, currants, and earth. Cellar for 4-6 years, enjoy for 2 decades. Score: 92-94.

    13. Gilbert Hedgespeth

“92-94 vvPunkte. A subtle, dark fruit bouquet with floral notes, a hint of eucalyptus, blackberries, and smoke. The palate is meaty and round, with ripe fruit and fine tannins balanced by acidity. Ends with a spicy finish. A successful Gloria that rivals classified growths. 2027-2045.”

    14. Richard Williams

Fruity and floral with hints of coffee and graphite, this wine is precise and well-structured with good tannins. Fresh and transparent, it receives a rating of 91-93.

    15. Theodore Latsko

2018 UGCB tasting Amsterdam: Powerful aftertaste, juicy wine, lacking complexity and bouquet. Future may improve.

    16. John Trimble

Ruby purple with fresh dark berry aromas, soft opening and low acidity. Lovely light Bordeaux, possibly tightening up later. 89++.

    17. Ronald Starkey

Dark fruit forward with bright acidity and heavy tannin finish. Needs more cellar time to mellow and integrate flavors. Not an early drinking Bordeaux favorite.

    18. Christine Reed

A fruity and flamboyant wine, but lacking depth and potential for improvement. Well-balanced but overpriced at $50.

    19. Brian Parker

Aromatic, with a musky Bordeaux note of leather, tobacco, cassis, plum, raspberry, and a dry silty minerality. The finish is all red fruits of cherry and raspberry. Drink now- 2045.

    20. Ida Hunt

Sweet and seductive with a fruity taste and a beautiful finish.

    21. Dennis Carchi

Concentrated with a fine tobacco finish. Balanced and well done.

    22. Kim Devens

2019 Bordeaux: Dark fruit, earthy, notes of cedar, and olive. 14% ABV, juicy and delicious, with cashmere-like tannins. Similar to 2009 and 2015.

    23. Tina Rivera

Robust start, medium-firm tannins. Muted dark fruit. Smoothed out, one of the smoothest wines I’ve had. Nice finish.

    24. Charles Irving

Balanced with notes of red and dark fruit, this 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot wine has excellent quality tannins and a long finish. Ideal for aging from 2025-2040.

    25. Lindsay Ludkowski

Chateau Gloria 2018: Intense and full-bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Flavors of black currants, loganberries, licorice, tar, allspice, and violets. Well-integrated alcohol, plentiful astringent tannins, and oak still present. Decant or cellar until 2025-2038.

    26. Martin Hall

Delightful wine with a beautiful color, tobacco notes, red berries, and a long finish. Better than the ’10 and ’15 as a young wine.

    27. Shirley Watkins

      Enjoyable now with well-integrated tannins.

    28. Salvador Williams

Lord’s 2019: Soft & Balanced with a blackcurrant and sea breeze nose. Good value. Score may improve with time.

    29. Lisa Bialaszewski

Clean red fruit and eucalyptus with toasty tannins, but slight oiliness on finish detracts from tannic structure.

    30. Ronald Powell

French-style restrained and lively wine with violet notes and a finish of tobacco leaf and lead pencil.

    31. James Cogswell

Fresh and sweet with notes of black currants, tea, orange rind, and cigar box. Soft tannins and a creamy cassis finish. Best enjoyed from 2027-2040.

    32. Charles Wills

Enjoyable but monolithic, typical of 2018. First bottle out of six.

    33. Janet Burks

Deep and complex with cassis, leather, and pipe tobacco notes. Accessible tannins with decanting.

    34. Angela Moulder

Henri Martin’s Bordeaux blend is a classic style with modern technology. It offers a plush taste with fine balance and dark berry and cedar notes. Scored 8/10 on Wine Tally.

    35. Ryan Konecny

Red fruit flavors are sweet and lifted in this medium-bodied, early-drinking wine. Notes of herbs, olives, and espresso add complexity. Drink between 2024-2036. 89-91.

    36. Alvin Allen

Dense and balanced with smooth tannins, medium acidity, and a nice savory note. Good with tobacco, dark fruits, and a hint of green.

    37. Lawerence Gable

Vibrant and ripe flavors of plum, cassis, and graphite. Ample structure with dusty tannins. Ready to drink now, will improve in 5-10 years.

    38. John Sullivan

Fresh and floral with a light body, this wine has a fine tannin texture and good acidity. Enjoyable now and for mid-term aging.

    39. Charles Sewell

“Not complex, full-bodied with stem notes. At LA UGC.”

    40. Susan Hutchens

Elegant, earthy, and soft wine. Long, balanced finish. Great value for money. Drink now or hold for 20 years.

    41. Beth Rangel

Rich and weighty like the 18 with a coiled acidity and fine structure. Excellent value with potential to age 100 years.

    42. Rosa Guy

Best 18 vintage wine I’ve tasted so far. Head and shoulders better than the 17 in weight and intensity. Fabulous for early drinking.

    43. Gerald Thomas

Review: Earthy and meaty with hints of candied red fruit, possibly with brettanomyces. Similar to St. Pierre, but different from other St. Juliens. Score: 85-87.

    44. Veronica Mooney

Concentrated wine with fruit and berry notes. Lacks structure and nuance. Drink by 2028-2030. 90-91.

    45. Wade Thornton

Improved with air, offering red and blue aromatics with floral notes and a touch of flint. Crisp acidity with polished tannins emerging after 2 hours. Added depth with time. Nice.

    46. Cindy Ortega

Review: Black and red fruit on the nose with a hint of smoke. Palate has sharp edges with dominant black fruit flavors. Paired well with walnut cottage cheese loaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, green peas, and sliced tomatoes.

    47. Ricky Cook

Balanced with notes of tobacco, toffee, and leather.

    48. Guillermina Mallory

Decent Bordeaux with raspberry, plum, rose, and vegetal aroma and palate. Oak present but not overpowering. Full mouthfeel, medium-plus acidity, and medium tannins.

    49. Rolando White

“This magnificent cru has a 50-hectare vineyard with deep ‘graves’ of Gironde deposits. Owned by Domaines Henri Martin, also owner of Ch. St.Pierre. One of the best St. Julien wines for real enthusiasts.”

    50. John Nolan

Balanced and integrated, but falls short.

    51. Willie Guzma

      Dark fruit, medium-bodied modern style.

    52. Elsie Foster

Garnet-colored wine with notes of sawdust and red/black fruits. Tannic taste with hints of seasoned salt and subtle fruit flavors. Age it for 4-5 years.

    53. Donald Peter

Floral and subtle with hints of mint, eucalyptus, and dark fruit. Dense and elegant with fine tannins and a long finish. A spicy wine with great race. 2026-2042+.

    54. Joanne Zarate

Solid value, earthy and savory with herb and leather notes. Good, but not outstanding. Serviceable.

    55. Keith Hoover

      Young, potential, not enjoyable.

    56. Catherine Russo

A big, balanced wine with a red-fruited nose and a slightly darker palate. Hefty, but not fat, with a fresh fruity finish. A very good showing. 91-92.

    57. Beth Mendez

Young wine with moderate fruit and oak flavors. Expansive aftertaste for over 10 seconds. Needs time to fully integrate and showcase its potential.

    58. Gina Denton

Balanced with medium/full body, juicy texture and medium finish. Medium forming legs.

    59. Edward Caravati

      Excellent value for the price!

    60. James Woodard

      Aging required for better taste.

    61. Edward Cody

“Excellent Bordeaux, full-bodied with balanced black and red fruits. Touch of orange and spice in the finish. Will improve over time.”

    62. Darrell Garcia

Young age, 2-hour decant. Cedar wood and bramble fruits on the nose. Fruit-forward palette with stewed plums and cherries, integrated tannins. Medium finish with dark fruit and graphite notes. Easy to drink now.

    63. Steven Tartaglia

Notes of tart berries and cracked pepper on the nose, followed by dark cherries and blackberries on the palate with medium tannins and acidity. After an hour decant, the wine becomes more earthy with notes of chocolate shavings and mushrooms.

    64. Tracy Tobar

2019 Chateau Gloria: A St. Julien nose, with oak presence and a medium body. Elegant, restrained, and classy. $40 per bottle. 92 points.

    65. Donald Brummer

Rich and balanced with a solid finish. Will improve over the next few years. 95+ potential.

    66. Sheila Bean

Excellent wine with a long, fresh and sapidic finish. Tannins are building up.

    67. Charles Ketner

Bordeaux 2020 UGCB tasting at Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam: Good fruits, elegant, juicy acidity, round but sticky tannin – still reticent.

    68. Thomas Knickerbocker

Deep ruby with purple rim and a wonderful fruit driven nose. Loads of ripe, blue and red fruits. Moderate acidity, moderate alcohol, and integrated tannins. Pure and precise throughout. Moderate oak notes of vanilla, tobacco leaf, and light cedar.

    69. Herbert Clifton

Gloria’s stunning vintage is medium-bodied, with red and black fruits, soft tannins and a savory edge. It’s a great place to start, competing with many Classified Growths. Drink from 2025-2045.

    70. Chuck Lewis

Not ready yet. Closed on nose and palate. No decanter available. Keep for 3-4 years.

    71. Teresa Reynolds

2022 En Primeur Day Two: Wild blackcurrant and plum with cedar and perfumed notes. Woody and savory on the palate, but oaking may need time to balance with fruit.

    72. Kendall Berenguer

Full-bodied with rich fruit and smoky flavors, this wine needs time to open up. Strong tannins and a salty finish. Don’t underestimate it. 93 points. 2030-2055.

    73. Betty Smith

Silky and elegant, this medium-bodied wine boasts flavors of black cherries, plums, and cocoa. With an ABV of 13.8%, it’s recommended to drink between 2025-2042. 93-95 Pts.

    74. Victor Campbell

Accessible and ready early. Black fruit, grilled nuts, and warm earth flavors. Gloria’s classic style. 91-93.

    75. Diana Palmer

Château Gloria’s 2019 is a classic, full-bodied wine with flavors of black currants, dark bramble fruits, orange zest, pencil shavings, tobacco, and violets. It has a healthy aliquot of creamy oak and finely textured tannins, making it a joy to drink even at this early stage. It represents tremendous value in most vintages and would be a great addition to young collectors’ cellars. Drink 2027-2044.

    76. WS

Rock-solid, with a mouthwatering roasted apple wood and mesquite frame around a well-layered core of black currant, blackberry and plum fruit flavors. The finish features dots of tobacco and tar that add range, but the real driver is a long bolt of iron, which gives this a throwback feel.

    77. WA

The 2019 Gloria has turned out very well, delivering aromas of blackcurrants, plums, burning embers and a deft framing of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, with a vibrant core of ripe and fleshy fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish, this shows considerable promise.

    78. DEC

Another winning velvety texture out of St Julien. You can trace the warmth and generosity of the vintage in the concentration and the ripeness of these blackberry and raspberry fruits but it is so seductive and carefully balanced with a core of freshness and a ton of crushed stone, black chocolate and baked earth adding layers and interest. This should be good value and is a definite buy. So much character and personality, right up there with the best vintages of this property. 40% new oak, 5% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

    79. JD

Showing beautifully, with the polished, pure, elegant style of the vintage, the 2019 Château Gloria sports a deeper ruby/purple color as well as great aromatics of cassis and assorted blue fruits to go with smoked tobacco, cedar pencil, damp earth, and floral notes. I love its purity, and it’s just a quintessential, medium to full-bodied, layered Saint-Julien that can be drunk today or cellared for a solid two decades. It should be a no-brainer purchase for the wine lovers out there.

    80. JS

Sweet berry and cherry aromas with violets, following through to a medium to full body with creamy, linear tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Tight and curated, in a structured way. Try after 2027.

    81. VIN

The 2019 Gloria has a compelling nose: black fruit, crushed rocks, tobacco and very subtle marine scents that are all beautifully combined. Perhaps the most precise and delineated nose among an impressive array of Saint-Julien’s this year. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively opening. A touch of soy infuses the black fruit; fine-boned with wonderful sapidity on the finish. Extraordinary length. Serious.
