Introducing the Bergstrom Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir 2021, a masterpiece hailing from the renowned Bergstrom Wines estate, guided by the skillful hands of winemaker Josh Bergstrom. Named after the road where the Bergstrom family’s roots in Portland, Oregon were nurtured, this wine encapsulates the essence of Oregon Pinot Noir at its finest. A harmonious blend of meticulously selected barrels from five estate-farmed vineyards, the Cumberland Reserve is a testament to the Bergstrom style, a symphony of spice, mineral nuances, and vibrant fruit flavors.

In the glass, the Cumberland Reserve entices with a radiant, youthful red hue, setting the stage for an exquisite sensory journey. The nose is alive with the intoxicating aroma of sweet Hood strawberries and tart cherries, intertwined with hints of pipe tobacco and subtle herbaceous spices. On the palate, a remarkable interplay unfolds. Its fruit-forward nature, marked by succulent notes, is artfully balanced by a playful dance of tart acidity and delicate structure. Notably, the presence of whole cluster tannins imparts both character and a promise of graceful aging.

The wine has received well-deserved acclaim from critics, including a stellar 95 points from Wine Advocate. Described as medium-bodied with a medium ruby-purple hue, the 2021 Cumberland Reserve showcases generous aromas of cranberry sauce, floral potpourri, and hints of blood orange, underlined by the whisper of dried herbs. The palate reveals a youthful exuberance, focusing on allspice flavors against a backdrop of chalky, tensile framework. Wine Spectator also awarded it 93 points, highlighting its fresh and juicy character, structured by vibrant cherry and cranberry flavors with nuanced black tea and dusky spice undertones. With James Suckling’s commendation of 93 points, the wine’s fresh, crunchy persona comes to life, where the harmony of sweet fruit and savory earthiness captivates the senses. Finally, with 90 points from Wine & Spirits, the wine’s purity of flavor and silky texture shine, underscored by strawberry and raspberry blossom scents.

In the Bergstrom Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir 2021, the symphony of flavors and textures is a true testament to the artistry of winemaker Josh Bergstrom, culminating in a wine that captures the essence of its origin and vintage. With its complex layers, balanced nature, and impressive aging potential, this wine stands as a testament to the mastery of Bergstrom Wines and the art of Oregon Pinot Noir.

Fresh and juicy yet well-structured, with vibrant cherry and cranberry flavors that take on dusky spice and black tea accents. Builds richness toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2032.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve offers generous aromas of cranberry sauce, floral potpourri, blood orange and wafts of dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is youthfully gregarious and focused on generous allspice flavors, although its chalky, tensile frame and long, latent finish suggest this has more to give with additional time in bottle.

Fresh and crunchy pinot with aromas of fresh strawberries, peppercorns, green olives, freshly turned soil and rosemary stems. Lovely silky texture, yet firm too, with tight-grained tannins and bright acidity. Delicious balance of sweet fruit and savory earthiness. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Bergstrom’s valley-wide blend is now estate grown (CK) and the better for it. This 2021 has a Beaujolais-like purity of flavor, with scents of strawberry and raspberry blossom, a light and silky texture and juicy acidity that contributes to its capacity to age.
