Terry Bering

Terry Bering’s winemaking journey began humbly, as a garagiste crafting Cabernet Sauvignon in a friend’s Healdsburg carport back in 1983. It was in 1985 that he ventured into the realm of Pinot Noir. His path took a significant turn when he crossed paths with Tom Rochioli, leading him to participate in the 1988 and 1989 grape crush at J. Rochioli Vineyards. In 1990, Terry abandoned his real estate career to embrace the role of cellar master at J. Rochioli Vineyards. The pivotal moment arrived in 1992, when he founded Castalia Wines, a label rooted in grapes purchased from Rochioli Vineyard. Today, Terry Bering stands as a devoted pinotphile, with Castalia embodying the spirit of ancient Greece’s Apollo and his inspiring spring on Mount Parnassus. This narrative of dedication culminates in Bering’s production of a singular Pinot Noir, a culmination of years of experience and a deep love for the craft.
