The Venge Scout’s Honor Proprietary Red Blend 2021 brings together a powerful lineup of old-vine Zinfandel, Charbono, Petite Sirah, and Syrah. Winemaker Kirk Venge carefully cultivates grapes from four vineyards in Napa Valley and Sonoma County to craft an unpretentious red wine that is organic and deeply flavorful.

This full-bodied blend pours a deep ruby red color with a nose of violets, dried cinnamon, white flowers, and a trace of barrel toast. On the palate, it is characterized by intense flavors of black fruits, sweet currants, and pepper spice, all lending to a powerful masculinity of char and tannins. A seamless balance provides a mouth-coating experience that is truly enjoyable.

The blend of Zinfandel from Venge’s Estate ‘Signal Fire Vineyard’ and the Frediani Vineyard, Charbono from the Frediani Vineyard, Petite Sirah from Robbie Mondavi’s Oso Vineyard, and Syrah from the Atlas Peak AVA come together to form this impressive proprietary red. Each lot of grapes was destemmed and fermented for an average of 20 days before being aged in 50% new American Oak and the balance in once-used tight grained French Oak for 14 months. No conventional pumps were used at any stage, only diaphragm air pumps and gravity transfers, preserving the pure fruit integrity.

Reviews of this vintage have reached a high rating of 90 points from Jeb Dunnuck for its ‘sweetly fruited’ Zinfandel-bomb character and ‘forward’ finish. Enjoy this delicious wine now or cellared correctly for 7 to 10 years for an even more pleasing experience. Scouts Honor Proprietary Red Blend 2021 is sure to please any red wine enthusiast.

Jammy and fruit forward; perfect with pepper crusted tenderloin.

    11. Jack Chin

Tasty purple wine with cherry, tobacco, and spice flavors. Soft texture. Really good.

Aging beautifully, this fruit-forward blend is a jam bomb. Perfect if you’re looking for a burst of flavor.

    28. Andrew Donaldson

Over-extracted, high alcohol, sweet and syrupy.

    29. Charles Sallade

Dark purple hue, watery texture, hint of smoke on the nose, subtle cherry flavor, delicious and enjoyable.

    30. Dawn Mattera

Scout’s Honor is better than previous years, with a cool, rugged flavor and smoky notes from other varietals in the blend.

    31. Bessie Padilla

Deep red with bronze hints. Jammy, pepper nose, fruity but masked by alcohol. Juicy, full mouth feel with lingering jammy finish. Too young.

    32. Lois Pugh

2019 Scout’s Honor: Pure, balanced, and fresh. Full flavor with fruit clarity and energy. Not dense.

    33. Samuel Lee

Dark purple with a brambly, smoky nose and flavors of blackberry jam, roasted plum, and savory herbs. Delightfully plush and fresh with bright acidity. A true pleasure to drink.

    34. Francisco Beggs

Ideal blend of fruit and earth. Favorite SH in five years. Great to drink now.

    35. Wayne Alcantar

Initially jammy and poor, but improves with time. Less jam, smoother, and less alcohol bite. Worth the wait for a pleasant experience.

    36. Melissa Andrews

Rich Syrah blend with notes of berries, caramel, and chili. Delicious.

    37. Paul Ferguson

Best SH to date. PB&J sandwich in a glass, sweet but not jammy like previous vintages. Solid daily drinker.

    38. Theresa Small

Great with blue cheese and sourdough bites, good nose. A little sweet, but P loved it.

    39. Joseph Bloom

Review: Jammy, extracted, sweet, and straightforward. 15.3% ABV, 63% Zinfandel, 16% Charbono, 12% Petite Sirah, 9% Syrah. Great for a quick sip and a cellar defender.

    40. Laura Weipert

      Decent Zin, not a favorite.

    41. Debby Bologna

Improved with less jammy notes, quicker to warm up with pleasant spice and fruit flavors. Continues to improve.

    42. Joyce Wheeler

Deep magenta color, raspberry and cranberry on the nose. Smooth and dry palate with soft tannins. Party wine, but too sweet for my taste.

    43. Kathryn Nielsen

Venge’s Zinfandel blend: Dark, juicy, layered fruit. Needs another year in bottle.

    44. Gilbert Posey

      New bottle, still great wine.

    45. Sandra Patterson

Wine needs 30 min decant. Smaller than 18 SH but enjoyable and ready to drink.

    46. Donald Cramer

      Excellent Napa wine, a must-try.

    47. Brain Williams

Initial over-extraction on the first night, but improved significantly on the second night to become similar to previous vintages.

    48. Judith Gallegos

Improved flavor, smooth finish. Top bottle in my collection.

    49. Mathew Jimenez

Delicious Zin with Charbono and Petit Sirah undertones. Great food wine.

    50. Christine Mcgraw

Fruit forward with less smokiness. Perfect acidity and tannins. Enjoyable mid-week blend.

    51. Paul Mcnally

Venge’s Scout’s Honor is a delightful blend of Zinfandel, Charbono, Petite Sirah, and Syrah. Dominated by spicy Zin’s aromas and flavors, it is balanced by other varietals. Dark fruit flavors include blackberries, plums, figs, and a hint of cinnamon spice. Tightly structured, with 15.3% alcohol, it’s perfect with grilled steak.

    52. Numbers Seever

Delicious Zinfandel blend from Napa. Full-bodied, fruity, and complex. Best after 2 hours of airtime. 92 points.

    53. Patricia Banks

Young wine, took time to open, peak drinking window for a few hours, then dropped off.

    54. Irene Ellis

Scout’s Honor does it again with an outstanding vintage.

    55. Herman Mccall

Review: Smooth, dry palate with firm tannins. Notes of Dutch apple pie, plum, and dark raspberry. Excellent quality-price ratio.

    56. William Small

“Delicious easy-drinking wine, potentially better than last year.”

    57. Virginia Fellin

      Excellent!

    58. Amanda Carpenter

Enjoyed with pork chops. M and J.

    59. Gary Devault

Balanced blend of four grapes with deep extraction. Fruit-forward but not sweet and a soft tannin finish with a full mouth feel.

    60. Mary West

Smooth with layers, a personal favorite.

    61. Tracy Chambers

      Full-bodied with a delicious finish.

    62. Ronald Camarillo

Dense purple-black color. Dark fruit aromas with earthy mushroom notes. Palate has blackberries, cherries, and cinnamon spice. Tannins underdeveloped, balance leans toward alcohol. Disappointing compared to prior vintages, may improve with time.

    63. Albert Poormon

A big, ripe and wooded wine with a Christmas Cake aroma. Soft, round and supple on the palate.

    64. Sondra Mulford

Smooth and elegant with notes of vanilla/coconut. Pairs well with pasta and meatballs. No exception to the Scouts Honor quality despite regional issues.

    65. Eloise Bell

      One left, thankfully.

    66. Marvin Pham

Silky texture with bramble fruit flavors and adequate tannins, slightly bitter at the end.

    67. Myra Rorick

Crowd pleaser. Lush mouthfeel. Fruity with mild tannins and low acid. Drink now, curious about aging potential.

    68. Alene Wilton

Value-packed and easy-to-drink with a rich and jammy flavor profile from extracted fruits.

    69. Angela Latham

      Underwhelming, needs time to mature.

    70. Raymond Hayden

Deep, young wine with dark purple hue. Plenty of vanilla and oak. Candied dark fruit. Croatia-inspired.

    71. Thomas Blank

      Day 1 – 87, needs time. Day 2 – improved.

    72. Linda Gamble

Bold and delicious dark blend with a fruit-forward taste. Great as a blend.

    73. Edward Roman

Jammy blackberries and blueberries on the nose, with a taste of dark fruit, tar, and tobacco. Charbano maybe present. Enjoyable.

    74. Raleigh Lawton

Great Zin, best to drink soon as it’s at its peak. Ruby color, light white pepper, mild dry finish, and a bit of red fruit at the start.

    75. Ellen Hepler

Rich wine with fruit flavor, good mouthfeel, and medium-light tannins. Excellent value for the price.
