Crafted by esteemed winemaker Peter Heitz, the 2021 Turnbull Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon emerges as a standout representation of Napa Valley’s fine winemaking. This wine beautifully showcases the skillful blend of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced predominantly from the Fortuna vineyard, with a significant contribution from the Leopoldina vineyard.

Upon first glance, the wine boasts a deep garnet-purple hue, inviting one to delve deeper into its complex character. The aroma is a rich tapestry of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and a hint of blueberries, elegantly intertwined with exotic spices, floral notes of violets, and subtle hints of dark chocolate and dusty gravel. These elements come together to create a sophisticated bouquet that captivates from the outset.

The palate is treated to a full-bodied, luxurious texture that balances power and finesse. The Turnbull Black Label is structured yet silky, with polished tannins that provide an excellent framework for the wine’s robust flavor profile. Flavors of black mulberry, crème de cassis, and juniper unfold, revealing a lush mid-palate that carries through to a spicy, prolonged finish. The wine’s impeccable balance and flawless integration of flavors speak to its majestic, age-worthy nature.

Critical acclaims highlight the wine’s remarkable attributes, with scores of 97 from both the International Wine Review and Jeb Dunnuck, and consistent praise from Wine Advocate and The Wine Independent. The 2021 Black Label is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawn from the Fortuna (66%) and Leopoldina (34%) vineyards. A best-barrel selection, it offers up classic Oakville scents of black cherries and loamy earth, with a gentle cassis undertone. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with a long, velvety finish, this is a solid wine, with as much as two decades of age-ability.
