Penner Ash Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2021 is the result of years of experience from acclaimed winemaker Kate Ayres and her team. Drawing upon longstanding relationships with growers, this vintage has sourced fruit from six distinguished sub-AVAs of the Willamette Valley. Grapes were hand-selected for optimum ripeness and quality.

This vintage offers inviting aromas of spiced raspberries, ripe Hood strawberries, warm vanilla oak and Rainier cherries that comes together with a subtle cocoa sweetness. On the palate, the 2021 vintage offers a medium-bodied, chalky and polished texture along with lots of crushed cherries, raspberries and dried cranberries, savory herbs, dried flowers and wet stones. There is an enticing crunchy and vibrant finish that makes this Pinot Noir a delight to savor.

The 2021 growing season in the Willamette Valley saw an early heat event that was followed by an abnormally cool front in June and a major heat dome leading us into one of the warmest recorded growing seasons. These climatic conditions have harvested a great amount of ripeness and vibrant flavors in the Penner Ash Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2021.

Experience this wonderful vintage of Penner Ash Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2021 and enjoy the exceptional balance between the fruit flavors and its texture. Replenish your senses with this beauty as the dry and savory finish gives way to a lingering sensation that will make you come back for more. Drink now and treat your palate with this Penner-Ash masterpiece.

    1. Robert Rosado

Frances’ PnP has good fruit but too much oak, with 14.3% alcohol.

    2. Victoria Wilcox

Excellent multi-vineyard blend Pinot. Perfect with salmon and bacon-topped mashed potatoes. Great value at $30. Will purchase again.

    3. John Lohrenz

Winebar has 4 whites, 8 reds, and 3 shared bottles. Harvested 9/7-26/16 @ 24.9 Brix; Aged 10 mos in FR oak. Nice, almost swtish frt quickly met by an astringent pucker. Deserves through ’19, then drinking for 3 yrs more. 93+ pts WA & 91 Suckling. $31.95.

    4. Dante Johnson

Dark red with stems, forest floor, cranberry & dark cherry flavors. Medium body, acidity and light tannins with a long finish. Very nice. 91+.

    5. Myrna Randazzo

Great value from Penner-Ash in Willamette Valley. Deep red with blackberry and black raspberry flavors. Medium body but delicious. Nice value from a top producer.

    6. Fletcher Stark

Great value Pinot Noir. Enjoyed it immensely.

    7. Dudley Carbonaro

Mouthfeel is nice, with dark black cherry and blackberry fruit. Briar and tension are present even after opening at home. May be too young.

    8. Willis Pierce

Powerful Oregon pinot with ripe fruit aroma.

    9. Filomena Horton

Balanced black cherry with a crisp finish. Long-lasting.

    10. Marie Steward

Ruby-colored wine with aromas of cherry and flavors of raspberry, molasses, red currant, gooseberry, and honey.

    11. Leslie Anderson

Pinot Noirs (3-OR, 2-RRV, & 1-Sta. Rita Hills) – Aged 10 mos in FR oak. Med body with astringent pucker. Long finish with a tangy sweetness. EXC-/EXC.

    12. Rosalie Hall

Elegant Oregon Pinot with a complex, berry and cherry finish and surprising body.

    13. Rodney Minich

Penner Ash’s Oregon Pinot is a great value and a standout among other wines from Santa Barbara and Burgundy. While it has a new world style, it still holds its own.

    14. Melinda Fuller

Dark ruby with fruity nose, cola and root notes. Tart acidity with juicy finish. 3/5.

    15. Joel Pereira

Medium plus nose shows orange peel, floral notes, cherry, cola. Palate is wonderfully expressive, layers of red fruits, light earth, touch of oak tones. Great winemaker (Lynn Penner-Ash) and excellent QPR.

    16. Mario Harris

Intense with notes of strawberry, rose petals, earth, minerals, and forest floor. Medium and concentrated finish. Enjoyable until 2024.

    17. Patricia Rozon

Floral and nicely spiced with ripe black and red cherry. A hint of new oak. Fun and simple for near-term enjoyment.

    18. Bobby Cage

Standout wine of the evening with layers of cherries, raspberries, & spice. Most expensive, but convinced us to visit Penner-Ash.

    19. Edna Jenkins

Expressive, delicious Pinot Noir with notes of black cherries, sweet spices, and violets. Medium-full-bodied with lower-medium tannin and medium acidity. Good length. Drink within 3 years.

    20. John Williams

“Floral, strawberry, spice and earth. Medium finish and good concentration. Solid Willamette Valley offering.”

    21. Helen Schmidt

      Great wine, excellent finish, recommended.

    22. Emily Odonnell

Pair with spicy roasted salmon. Concentrated black fruit notes complement the dish well.

    23. Harold Atkinson

      Smooth tannins well integrated.

    24. Deandre Bell

Complex with notes of spice, earth, forest floor, mushroom, and great acidity. Pair it with cedar plank salmon. $40 retail, worth it.

    25. Samantha Ryan

Oregon Pinot with tart cherry and cranberry aroma, subtle palate, medium acidity and tannins. Nice, but lacks the exceptional factor.

    26. Audrey Lumpkin

Light and undistinguished. Overpriced at $30. Drinkable but not recommended.

    27. Mike Brennan

Savoury notes, fresh acidity, well balanced.

    28. Leroy Bertalan

Heavy oak and alcohol overpower the fruit in this wine, resulting in a gloopy texture and restrained flavors.

    29. Warren Phillips

Not up to par with the price. Dark sappy fruit with boozy heat.

    30. Leonard Lockwood

Cherry with hint of orange tea. Herbaceous. Full-bodied compared to other Willamettes.

    31. Kenneth Katz

Excellent Pinot with earthy notes. Great QPR.

    32. Audrey Franklin

Pale red with earthy and tart cherry notes on the nose. Bright cherry and cranberry on the palate. Medium body and acidity with low tannins. Silky smooth. Very nice. 91++.

    33. Thomas Garrett

Initial funky aroma, followed by a refreshing taste that loses its earthy notes and gains sweet oak. A complex and dynamic wine.

    34. Gregory Burley

Red fruit nose, sweet cherry palate, earthy finish. Enjoyable, not complex.

    35. Kevin Smith

Great summer sipper, straightforward with a true valley taste. Best to enjoy now. Excellent value.

    36. Patrick Stackhouse

Pinot Noir, 3 years old. Shy fruit aroma, bold palate from alcohol, oak, and acid. Flavors of red fruit, wood, pink flowers, tea, and citrus peel. No score given.

    37. William Delafuente

Complex aromas of herbs and fruit with a spicy, earthy taste and hints of oak. Promising wine that will develop more earthy and mushroom flavors with time.

    38. Tamika White

Well-crafted with earthy tones, herbal notes, and spicy flavors. The red fruits are delightful.

    39. Laura Marks

Full-bodied Pinot with musty earthy undertones and classic floral nose. Bold style.

    40. Lola Benny

Approachable and tasty with sweet young fruit and layers of baking spice. Aromas of Ceylon cinnamon dust and forest floor.

    41. Carolyn Begley

Soft dark fruit and plum with minerality. Some cotton candy on Day 2. Slightly biting finish.

    42. Dennis Knapp

      Excellent, highly recommended.

    43. Carol Long

      Excellent wine, no detailed notes.

    44. Clifford Caruthers

Powerful and ripe with six vineyards, mostly from Yamhill Carlton and Shea. Really good.

    45. Jack Puckett

Well-made Pinot with clean, fruit-forward flavors.

    46. Angela Smith

Smooth and balanced with ripe, juicy red fruits. Medium finish.

    47. Anna Ace

Coravin Pour, Ruby Red/Garnet. Rhubarb, cherry, tennis balls. Medium body, light acid. Held up well, great table pinot.

    48. Patsy Padberg

      Superb Pinot.

    49. Mary Sanders

Muted garnet hue with earthy mushroom nose. Balanced palate with notes of red cherry, anise, black tea, and wet stones. Pleasant but overpriced.

    50. John Ward

Penner-Ash’s basic Willamette Valley Pinot is a well-balanced red with notes of red cherry and raspberry fruit, tangerine, clove, cocoa, and black tea. It has a medium body, soft tannins, and 14.4% alcohol. Enjoy it now until 2026.

    51. Lena Orr

      Wine is corked.

    52. Lindsay Cardona

Clean and warm fruit with a liqueur-like taste due to high alcohol. Intense balance of tannin and acid with cherry fruit notes. Limited complexity.

    53. Rita Hope

Overly sweet with strong candied fruit flavors. May appeal to Pinot drinkers who prefer boldness, but lacks the subtlety and mystery of a well-made Pinot.

    54. Derrick Hurley

      Enjoyed Soft. Nicely nuanced.

    55. Charlotte Montello

Promising pine, earth and metal notes, this wine is expected to age gracefully.

    56. Heidi Lamotte

This Willamette PN is soft, balanced, and allows fruit flavors to shine without overwhelming. Tannin structure suggests it won’t age long.

    57. Pat Lumley

Subtle fruit notes, possibly black cherry. Enjoyable.

    58. Judy Mitchell

One-dimensional with lacking fruit compared to other bottles from the same purchase, but not necessarily bad. Others enjoyed it.

    59. Michael Porter

BarZotto’s PNP is big and oaky, not my ideal Oregon pinot at 14.4%.

    60. Dennis Molina

A light and easy wine with aromas of black cherry, plum, and blueberry, and flavors of cherry, lemon, and graphite minerality.

    61. Toni Tucker

Smooth Oregon Pinot, one of the best.

    62. Carolyn Sutton

Juicy cherry, spicy cinnamon, and a perfect drinking window make this evocative PN hard to resist. One sip and you’ll be hooked on Pinot.

    63. Belle Argenbright

Feminine Pinot Noir with floral notes. Lean finish, pleasant minerality. Slightly diluted.

    64. Dana Nichell

Tart cherry, peppery, wet earth, and stone. Oak is dominant. Good balance, but not very complex. Fits into Willamette Valley’s sense of “place.”

    65. Ruben Jones

Medium-bodied with notes of cherries and earthiness. Pairs well with whole cooked salmon with lemon and dill. Not fancy, but enjoyable.

    66. Jarrod Albert

      Solid Willamette Pinot.

    67. Patricia Bradley

Delightful Oregon Pinot with earthy aroma, cherries, and balanced acidity. Pairs well with grilled salmon and veggies. Great value.

    68. Tommy Windley

Great value Willamette Pinot Noir, medium-bodied and drinking well. Good price for BC.

    69. Lucille Roach

      Smooth tannins, elegant refinement.

    70. James Smith

Moderate+ acidity complements raspberry and potting soil notes in this delicate wine.

    71. Nicholas Hess

Balanced, approachable, sweet fruit with simple acidity. Surprisingly enjoyable after 2 hours of decanting.

    72. John Rester

Simple Pinot. One-dimensional but well-made and enjoyable.

    73. Helen Martinez

      Terrible wine, tasted cooked.

    74. Cameron Lee

Perfectly balanced with notes of cherries, root beer, raspberries, and dried fruit. A beautiful bouquet leads to a long, complex finish. Surprisingly, the Penney-Ash entry level Pinot is very food friendly.

    75. Emily Miller

Balanced and fleshy with red and black cherry notes. Great to drink now.

    76. JS

Crushed cherries, raspberries and dried cranberries here, together with savory herbs, dried flowers and wet stones. Medium-bodied, chalky and polished with delicious cherries and hints of red spices. Crunchy and vibrant finish. Drink now.

    Jeb Dunnuck
From their 15-acre estate vineyard, the deep ruby-purple 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard is forward with aromas of graphite, black cherry liqueur, and dark spices of anise. Full-bodied but not weighed down, it retains its pure dark fruit through the palate, with ripe tannins and a savory edge that’s quite attractive. It is another wine where its primary fruit makes it quite appealing now, but it will have a solid 5-6 years of prime drinking ahead.
