Wine Description
The deep red-violet hue of the Laird Merlot Suscol Ranch 2018 leads to stunning aromas of blackberry jam, wild rose, and toasted oak. On the balanced palate, this Merlot showcases chewy tannins and juicy acidity, with highlights of sweet vanilla, Bing cherry, and undertones of ripe strawberries and cocoa.
Suscol Ranch is located in the Southeastern part of Napa Valley. The hillside vineyard is composed of sandy loam soils, which lend themselves to produce Merlot with concentrated fruit and sturdy tannins. The cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay allow bright acid to develop in the grapes, which contribute to the structure and ageability of this Merlot. ( 21 months 67% French oak 33% American oak 30% new barrels)
The winemaker, Brian Mox, has crafted a wine that pairs perfectly with a dry-aged ribeye topped with gorgonzola, or for your next special occasion when you want to show off. The ABV is 14.8%.
Rated 92 Points by James Suckling, this Laird Merlot Suscol Ranch 2018 features an alluring nose of boysenberries, baking spice, and fine leather, leading to a tannin-filled palate complimented by the flavors of Bing cherries, ripe currant, and sweet toasted oak. The bright, lively finish leaves you craving your next sip. With surprising structure for a Laird Merlot, this will be a special treat for years to come.
