Kapcsandy Estate Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, meticulously crafted by renowned winemaker Tony Arcudi at Kapcsandy Family Winery, is a testament to the art of winemaking. This exquisite blend, predominantly Kapcsandy Cabernet Sauvignon, is complemented with Merlot and Petit Verdot, culminating in a production of only 250 cases. This limited edition makes the Kapcsandy Estate Cuvee a highly sought-after treasure for connoisseurs.

The Kapcsandy Estate Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 mesmerizes with its semi-opaque ruby hue, inviting the eye with promises of depth and complexity. It expresses a classic, almost nostalgic Cabernet nose. Red and black currants interweave with indulgent chocolate, exotic sandalwood, the distinct sharpness of freshly sharpened pencils, and a tapestry of dried herbs. This Kapcsandy Cabernet Sauvignon radiates elegance and complexity.

On the palate, the Kapcsandy Family Winery Estate Cuvee unfolds its layers with finesse. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a harmonious blend of ripe, yet progressively building tannins and good acidity. The result is a Kapcsandy wine with a remarkable finish, leaving a lasting impression of refined grace.

The oak regimen of the Kapcsandy Estate Cuvee is notably unique, with 55% new French oak, 18% new Hungarian oak, and 27% second fill French oak. This innovative approach imparts a distinct character to the Kapcsandy Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, enhancing its overall complexity and texture.

Critically acclaimed, the Kapcsandy Estate Cuvee has garnered impressive scores from notable wine critics. The Wine Advocate awarded it 93 points, celebrating its deep garnet-purple color and an abundance of baked black cherries, mulberries, and warm cassis aromas. Notes of lilacs, cinnamon stick, cedar chest, and clove oil add to its allure. The palate is greeted with black and blue fruits, a fragrant floral edge, plush tannins, and a spicy, fresh finish.

Jeb Dunnuck praised it with 96 points, highlighting its Chateau Margaux-like complexity and sexiness. He notes its blueberries, red currants, incense, and spicy oak, along with a rounded, fruit-forward, and textured profile. Vinous also rated it 96 points, admiring its rich, smoky, and inviting nature, coupled with flavors of tobacco, cedar, leather, smoke, licorice, and incense. Wilfred Wong, giving it 95 points, underscored its depth and complexity, with an emphasis on its black fruit aromas and flavors.

Leading off the 2017s from barrel, the 2017 Estate Cuvee is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated and includes 8% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. This beauty has a Château Margaux-like complexity as well as sexiness, followed by notes of blueberries, red currants, incense, and spicy oak. It's rounded, fruit-forward, and textured, with the forward, fleshy, flamboyant style of the vintage front and center. It doesn't have the density of the 2016 yet is more approachable.

The 2017 Estate Cuvée has turned out beautifully. Rich, smoky and inviting, the 2017 will, uncharacteristically, drink well pretty much upon release. In 2017, the Estate is a bit broader and richer than it usually is, but all of the elements are in the right place. To be sure, the natural richness of 2017 is evident, but at the same time Lou and Louis Kapcsándy have done a terrific job in avoiding the hard tannins that are found in so many wines. Tobacco, cedar, leather, smoke, licorice and incense add to a feeling of gravitas and pure power. This is an impressive showing.
