Il Fauno di Arcanum 2020, crafted by winemaker Lawrence Cronin at Tenuta di Arceno, is an exquisite blend that showcases the estate’s diversity. Sourced primarily from the Arceno di Sotto, La Curva, Colombaio, and San Giovanni blocks, the wine thrives in the warm and exposed southwestern section of the estate with clay-rich soils that offer good water retention, resulting in voluptuous and lush wines.

The 2020 growing season began with a mild and dry winter, followed by ample spring rainfall that rejuvenated the groundwater. Summer brought warm days and cool nights, preserving the wine’s acidity and aromatics. The harvest, starting on September 14th with Merlot and concluding with the last of the Cabernet Sauvignon on October 12th, was characterized by exceptional fruit quality.

Upon opening the bottle, one is greeted with a nose filled with enticing aromas of juicy fresh strawberries and raspberries, complemented by subtle hints of menthol. The palate is a delightful interplay of flavors, featuring ripe plums and bright cherries, alongside floral tones of rose and delicate hints of honeysuckle. Chewy tannins are elegantly balanced by lively acids, providing a harmonious and well-structured mouthfeel.

As the wine lingers on the palate, a long and spicy finish unfolds, revealing notes of nutmeg and black licorice, followed by the gentle warmth of lingering white pepper and tobacco. This delightful combination of flavors creates an engaging and memorable tasting experience.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling has awarded Il Fauno di Arcanum 2020 an impressive 93 points, praising its perfumed nose and flavorful finish. Jeb Dunnuck also lauds the wine with 92 points, describing its spiced aromas and generous fruit, making it an approachable and enjoyable wine to savor from 2023 to 2030.
