Ribbon Ridge

Ribbon Ridge, nestled within Oregon’s esteemed Willamette Valley, has a rich history dating back to 1980 when the first vines were planted. This region was granted AVA status in 2005, distinguishing itself as a notable sub-region within the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Positioned on a free-floating hill, Ribbon Ridge is bounded by Ayres and Dopp creeks in the north and west, with Chehalem Creek to the west, creating a distinctive terroir for winemaking.

The region’s defining feature lies in its marine sedimentary soils, a stark contrast to the volcanic Jory soils found in neighboring AVAs. These ancient, weathered soils induce vine stress, curbing yield and enhancing grape quality. With a sheltered microclimate shielded by the Coast Range and Chehalem Mountains, Ribbon Ridge experiences slightly warmer and drier conditions, ensuring a steady and consistent climate with moderate rainfall.

Primarily known for its production of Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge also boasts notable cultivation of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Wines from this region are renowned for their poised and elegant characteristics, striking a delicate balance between acidity and richness. The sun-kissed, south-facing vineyard sites capture abundant sunlight during the growing season, leading to well-structured wines with vibrant acidity preserved by cool evening temperatures.

Despite its relatively brief history as a wine-growing region, Ribbon Ridge has gained recognition for the exceptional quality of its red wines, akin to the neighboring AVAs of Dundee Hills and McMinnville. With its unique soil profile and favorable climate, Ribbon Ridge continues to produce wines that embody the essence of the land, characterized by elegance and refined complexity.
