Schramsberg Vineyards

Schramsberg Vineyards, situated in the Calistoga AVA of Napa Valley, holds the distinction of being one of the oldest wineries in the region. Established back in 1862, this renowned vineyard primarily focuses on producing exquisite sparkling wines using Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

The credit for the vineyard’s inception and the construction of Napa’s first hillside caves for wine storage and aging goes to Jacob Schram. It was during the early 20th Century that Schramsberg gained widespread recognition for its sparkling wines crafted using the traditional methode traditionnelle. These exceptional wines have been a part of official events hosted by every US Presidential administration since Richard Nixon in 1972.

In 1967, the current owners introduced their inaugural vintage, a Blanc de Noirs labeled as “Napa Valley Champagne.” Over the years, Schramsberg expanded its portfolio to include a vintage-dated Blanc de Blancs, a prestigious cuvée named J. Schram, a rosé, a crémant demi-sec, an extra brut, and a range of sparkling wines from specific appellations in North Coast.

To create their sparkling wines, Schramsberg sources Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Flora grapes from various vineyard sites in cool-climate regions like Napa, Sonoma, Anderson Valley, and Marin County. Additionally, Schramsberg owns 17 hectares (41 acres) of Cabernet Sauvignon vines on Diamond Mountain in the Napa appellation, which are used to produce still wines under the Davies Vineyards label.

Within the cellar, Schramsberg maintains a library of base wines aged for up to 10 years in barrels, contributing to the final blend’s depth and richness. Following this, the wines undergo a minimum of two years of aging on the lees in the historic underground caves on the property before disgorgement.
