Established in 1987 by the visionary collaboration of winemaker Aurelio Montes and wine trade stalwart Douglas Murray, the winery set out on a mission to create exceptional Chilean wines that would stand out on the global stage.

Situated across Chile’s diverse terroirs, Montes’ vineyards stretch from the northern Aconcagua and Casablanca Valley to the southern Apalta region. The winery’s commitment to sustainable practices is evident in their minimal irrigation approach, fostering vine strength, and green harvesting techniques that enhance berry concentration. Harvesting is meticulously timed, either during the cool night or early morning, to preserve the grapes’ natural freshness.

Montes boasts an impressive range of wines crafted from classic Chilean grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Syrah, and Chardonnay. Among their esteemed creations is the flagship Purple Angel, a Carmenère-predominant wine from the Colchagua Valley, which has garnered worldwide acclaim and is now an emblem of Chile’s winemaking prowess.

At their state-of-the-art 2.3-million-liter winery in Apalta, Montes brings their top wines to life. Here, on the steep and elevated slopes, grapes are carefully cultivated to produce exceptional vintages such as the Folly Syrah, a bold and age-worthy red wine that exemplifies the unique terroir of the region.

The Alpha M Bordeaux blend is yet another jewel in Montes’ crown, crafted from a harmonious combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes. A recent addition to their collection, Taita, centers on estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon from Marchigüe, showcasing the winery’s continuous pursuit of excellence.

In addition to their iconic wines, Montes offers a diverse range of everyday drinking options. The Alpha and Classic series celebrate Chile’s renowned grape varieties, while the Outer Limits range pushes the boundaries with wines from more extreme regions, reflecting the winery’s innovation and adventurous spirit.
