La Sala del Torriano Description
Nestled near Montefiridolfi, in the charming municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, you’ll find La Sala del Torriano, a winery that embodies the rich winemaking traditions of Tuscany. This historical estate, situated on the scenic road connecting the Bibbione castle to the Tignanello estate, has a storied past dating back to 1217 when it was known as the “Torniano.” In 1935, Dr. Pietro Cateni, Francesco Rossi Ferrini’s maternal grandfather, acquired this picturesque farm.
In 2011, Francesco Rossi Ferrini assumed ownership of Torriano, following in the footsteps of his winemaking legacy established by Prof. Ugo Rossi Ferrini, a renowned oenologist. Under Francesco’s enthusiastic leadership, the family’s winemaking tradition thrives, and the estate remains a proud member of the Chianti Classico Consortium since 1941.
Francesco’s passion for viticulture led him to acquire the La Sala winery in San Casciano Val di Pesa in 2014, located just 8 km from Torriano. This marked the birth of La Sala del Torriano, an endeavor that continues the winemaking journey initiated by Laura Baronti in 1981. The winery is housed within a medieval tower, serving as the heart of this thriving estate.
At La Sala del Torriano, the commitment to producing exceptional organic wines is unwavering. Guided by Francesco, oenologist Ovidio Mugnaini, and consultant agronomist Stefano di Blasi, the estate is dedicated to crafting high-quality wines with meticulous care while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Here, amidst the timeless beauty of Tuscany, La Sala del Torriano continues to create wines that pay homage to the region’s winemaking heritage while embracing organic and eco-friendly practices.
