Cordant Winery Description
Cordant Winery started in 2014 by David and DeAnn Taylor. It’s located on the Central Coast of California, stretching from Monterey County down through Santa Barbara County. This area covers almost 200 miles and is known for its beautiful scenery and perfect conditions for growing grapes.
The winery makes about 3,000 cases of wine every year. They focus on making Pinot Noir and Rhone-style wines, aiming to create favorites not just for themselves but for friends, family, and customers too. Cordant Winery has a simple goal: to make wine that everyone loves.
Their vineyards are spread out across this vast area, benefiting from a variety of climates and soils. This diversity helps the Taylors pick the best grapes for their cordant wine. They care a lot about where their grapes come from, believing that the best wine starts with the best vineyards. They work closely with the people who farm the land, building strong relationships based on trust and communication. This approach ensures that the wine they produce is not just good but exceptional.
One thing that sets Cordant Winery apart is their farming practice. They prefer vineyards that are managed with great care, including those that do not use irrigation, known as dry farming. This method is particularly good for certain grapes like Grenache, making them produce better color and tannin, which leads to more interesting wine.
At Cordant Winery, they make a big deal out of mixing different grapes from their range of vineyards. They believe this blending brings out the best in their wines, adding complexity and depth. Whether it’s a vineyard right by the coast or one in the limestone-rich areas of Paso Robles, each location adds something special to their cordant wine.
David Taylor, after spending over 30 years in the tech and start-up world, decided to chase his passion for wine and founded Cordant Winery. His belief that “wines are born in the vineyard” drives the winery’s philosophy. The team at Cordant is just as passionate, striving to make the best wine possible and to create memorable experiences for anyone who visits or tries their wine.
Cordant Winery stands out not just for its wine but also for its dedication to building relationships—both with the people who grow their grapes and with those who drink their wine. Their commitment to quality and hospitality makes Cordant a unique and cherished part of the California wine community.
