Bricco Mollea Description

Trediberri Bricco Mollea is a winery located in Berri, a tiny part of La Morra in the Langhe hills of Piemonte, Italy, near the Tanaro river. It’s at the far west end of the Barolo wine region. This winery kicked off in 2007 when Nicola, his dad Federico, and their buddy Vladimiro grabbed 12.5 acres to make some top-notch Barolo. They officially opened their doors in 2011.

They’ve got vineyards in a few spots: their original 12 acres in Berri, 7 acres in the Rocche dell’Annunziata and Torriglione areas where they grow Barolo, Barbera, and Sauvignon Blanc, and they’re renting another 7.5 acres in Vicoforte Bricco Mollea for Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. They had a spot in Capalot for a bit, but that ended in 2018.

Their farming practice is pretty hands-on and down-to-earth. They’re not about big, flashy techniques or traditions; they just focus on making wine they enjoy drinking. They use a mix of cement, wood, or steel tanks for their wines, depending on what they think will work best for that year’s harvest.

As for the wine, Trediberri is all about drinkability. They want their bottles to be the ones you reach for and finish off without even realizing it. They make wines that are balanced, where the alcohol, structure, and flavor all work together perfectly.

They make a variety of wines, but they’re particularly proud of their Barolo, which comes from several parcels they own or rent, including the famous Rocche dell’Annunziata, a prized location for Barolo producers. Their Dolcetto and Nebbiolo from Vicoforte Bricco Mollea are also noteworthy, showing off the unique terroir of being at the foot of the Maritime Alps.

In summary, Trediberri Bricco Mollea, nestled in the western part of La Morra and spanning across Berri, Rocche dell’Annunziata, Torriglione, and Vicoforte Bricco Mollea, offers a young and artisanal approach to winemaking. Starting in 2007 and with their first wine released in 2011, they’ve focused on creating balanced and enjoyable wines through a mix of traditional and innovative farming practices. Their range of wines showcases the unique characteristics of each vineyard location, emphasizing their commitment to expressing the present through their wines.

Trediberri Bricco Mollea focuses on making both red wines and white wines that stand out in the crowded world of Italian wines. Their red wines, especially those made from the Langhe Nebbiolo grape, are known for their deep flavors that often remind you of red fruit like cherries and raspberries. They also experiment with Pinot Noir, a grape that’s not as common in the Piedmont region, aiming to bring a touch of elegance and complexity to their lineup.

The white wines from Trediberri Bricco Mollea aren’t just an afterthought. They apply the same care and attention to detail as they do with their reds. By using varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, they manage to capture a fresh and vibrant taste that perfectly complements the more robust flavors of their red wine grapes. This variety ensures that there’s something for everyone at Trediberri, whether you’re a fan of bold reds or crisp whites.

One of the secrets behind the unique character of Trediberri’s producing wines is their commitment to single vineyard wine production. This approach allows them to showcase the distinct characteristics of each location, whether it’s the rich, fruity notes from Vicoforte Bricco Mollea or the elegant complexity of their Rocche dell’Annunziata Barolo. By focusing on single vineyard lots, they’re able to express the very best of what each piece of land has to offer.

Moreover, Trediberri Bricco Mollea pays homage to traditional wine-making methods by aging some of their wines in oak barrels, a technique that dates back to the 19th century. This method adds layers of flavor and aroma to the types of wine, contributing to the overall complexity and depth. The oak barrel aging process is especially important for their Nebbiolo-based wines, giving them a smoother texture and integrating the tannins beautifully. Through a blend of modern innovation and respect for tradition, Trediberri Bricco Mollea continues to craft exceptional Piedmontese wines that capture the essence of their unique terroir.
