Crafted by the skilled hands of winemaker David Cilli at Promontory Estate Winery, the 2019 Promontory Wine embodies the essence of its Napa Valley origins. This vintage, a part of the prestigious Harlan estate lineage, showcases the unique character of the Promontory vineyard, making it a coveted addition for collectors and connoisseurs.

The 2019 growing season’s cool, rainy start, followed by a mild summer, is vividly expressed in the wine’s nuanced profile. It presents a deep garnet-purple hue, hinting at the layered complexity within. Aromatically, it conjures a forest after rain, with misty mineral notes and a tapestry of crushed rocks, garrigue, and subtle lavender. The core is rich with black cherries, redcurrant jelly, and fresh blackcurrants, accented by a hint of mossy tree bark.

On the palate, this Cabernet offers a dynamic expression of the season. Initial flavors of ripe black fruits are intertwined with chocolate, lead pencil shavings, and roasted herbs. The structure is marked by brisk acidity and firm tannins, creating a memorable mouthfeel. The wine’s tension and energy culminate in a bright, enduring finish, leaving an impression of both intensity and elegance.

The 2019 vintage has garnered high praise from critics. Jeb Dunnuck celebrated its perfect balance and depth, likening it to a First Growth Bordeaux with a distinctive Napa flair. The Wine Independent lauded its tightly wound structure and fragrant finish, while James Suckling noted its linear flow and racy tannins. Vinous admired its depth and volume, and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate appreciated its silky elegance.

For those seeking to acquire this exceptional wine, the 2019 Promontory Wine for sale represents an opportunity to experience the artistry of Napa Valley winemaking. The price reflects its scarcity and the high esteem in which the Harlan estate is held. As a wine that superbly marries the boldness of Napa with the refinement of Bordeaux, it stands as a stellar addition to any collection.

    Critical Acclaim

    WA 97
    Wine Advocate
The 2019 Promontory offers up slightly darker cherries than the red-fruited 2018, couched in a bed of foresty-minty notes and underpinned by crushed stone. At this stage, it looks more intense but otherwise similar to the excellent 2018, finishing long, silky and elegant, with mouthwatering freshness. Collectors should enjoy comparing the two years for decades to come.

Lastly, the 2019 Promontory Estate matches the perfect 2016 from this estate and is legendary stuff. Ripe black fruits, chocolatey, lead pencil shaving, roasted herbs, and tobacco are just some of its nuances, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, concentrated mid-palate, ultra-fine tannins, and an incredible finish. It doesn’t get any better. This has the class of a First Growth from Bordeaux paired with a Napa sense of texture and fruit. It will evolve for 40-50 years.

Purple-fruit, dark-licorice and conifer aromas follow through to a medium to full body with firmness and a linear flow that goes on for minutes. Racy tannins and focus. Give this until at least 2028.

The 2019 Promontory is just as impressive as it always has been. Vertical in structure, with tremendous depth, the 2019 possesses notable textural intensity and tons of volume. Black cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, new leather and espresso are all amplified. Time has softened some of the Promontory edges. The 2019 is still very young, but it has come together very nicely.

    The Wine Independent
The 2019 Promontory has a deep garnet-purple color. It is quite closed at the moment, needing a little swirling to reveal notes of crushed rocks, garrigue, iron ore, and lavender, leading to a core of black cherries, redcurrant jelly, and fresh blackcurrants, with a hint of mossy tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is so tightly wound, delivering multi-layered black and red berries with mineral and earthy sparks, supported by fine-grained tannins, finishing long and fragrant.
