The 2013 Meteor Special Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is very small production(only 1 barrel produced) and represents the absolute finest fruit from Meteor Vineyard. The grapes are hand-selected by the row and cluster from a rock strewn section planted to Clone 7 on Saint George rootstock. An aromatic core of cassis, blackberry, and briary, wild berries is warmed by notes of sweet tobacco and Linzer torte. A spicy, Mexican chocolate settles on the aromas and flavors. There is a brightness on the palate that pops of clove, cedar, and chocolate meld with the bright balance. The tannins are firm, just enough so to ground the lushness of the aromas and flavors.

    1. WA

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Family Reserve has a dense, opaque, black/purple color, enormous extract and massive fruit, full-bodied power and stunning purity and depth. Readers are often too young to remember what some of the great classics of the late 1960s and 1970s tasted like, particularly the Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignons of 1968-1974. Well, I bought those wines, and tasting these Meteor Vineyard wines reminded me of their super-richness and almost overwhelming extract and power. This is another great achievement, but a real connoisseur’s wine in that it’s going to take 8-10 years to come around and last 30-40 years, if not longer.

    2. VIN

Creamy and dense, with plenty of tannic spine in support, Meteor’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely gorgeous. Bittersweet chocolate, espresso, menthol, licorice grow as the 2013 saturates every corner of the palate. Exotic spice, flowers, wild cherry, leather and espresso infuse the unctuous, inviting finish. The 2013 Family Reserve is a big wine, but all of the elements are impeccably balanced.
