With the small crop and small berries, concentration wasn’t an issue though picking decisions were difficult as the acid was slow to decrease yet displayed a huge shift in tank. We decided to pick early and are thrilled with the brightness and depth without over-ripe flavors. A huge expression of tar, cocoa powder, violets and structure, this Syrah-based wine is brightened by vibrant Grenache, lengthened by Petite Sirah, and lifted aromatically via co-fermentation with Viognier. Named and styled after Marietta’s founder, Chris Bilbro, this wine is gentle but powerful, pleasurable but deep, and refined while raw

    1. WE

This big, nicely dry and firm-textured wine supports deep blackberry, black-pepper and woodsmoke flavors with firm tannins and a full body. It’s great to pair with a juicy chop or steak.

    2. WA

The 2018 Christo is made up of 60% Syrah, 24% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah and 4% Viognier. Vibrant ruby-purple in color, the nose offers pure scents of crushed red, black and blue berries, tobacco, violets, tar and smoked meats. The palate is full-bodied and packed full of perfectly ripe, juicy fruit, with a grainy frame and loads of uplift on the finish.

    3. JS

Very attractive aromas of blackberry, sweet tobacco and wet earth follow through to a full body with a round, soft texture. Smoke, tar and graphite notes. Flavorful finish. 60% syrah, 24% grenache, 12% petite sirah and 4% viognier.

    4. VIN

The 2018 Christo is the most intriguing of the wines in Marietta’s mid-tier range. Succulent red cherry, spice, tobacco and cedar lend quite a bit of immediacy. Soft and pliant, with striking textural richness, Christo is an absolutely joyous wine in every way. Don’t miss it.
