Janzen Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard 2019 is a testament to the craft of winemaker Kirk Venge, hailing from the renowned Bacio Divino Cellars. This exceptional vintage, crafted entirely from the illustrious Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, presents itself with a mesmerizing ruby/purple hue. The nose captivates with a perfumed medley of red and black currants, entwined with alluring notes of flowery incense, leather, nuanced chocolate, and a subtle whisper of baking spices.

Esteemed critic Jeb Dunnuck bestows this vintage with a remarkable 95 points, a testament to its exceptional quality. On the palate, this wine exhibits a medium to full-bodied character, impeccably balanced with velvety tannins. Its supple mouthfeel leads to a satisfying finish, making it a delightful choice for indulgence now, although it promises to age gracefully for up to 15 years.

Furthermore, Wine Enthusiast, awarding it 94 points, celebrates its opulent layers of forest pine, tobacco, and leather. The firm grip of tannins harmoniously interplays with generous oak, accompanied by notes of vanilla, brown sugar, and dark cherry, culminating in a robust, full-bodied wine. Connoisseurs’ Guide, acknowledging its excellence with 91 points, applauds its immediate approachability. Despite its weighty, fully ripe essence, the wine offers a supple texture and a lush profile, balancing curranty fruit and sweet oak effortlessly. With an anticipated peak in four to five years, this vintage promises to reveal its most enjoyable attributes.

Rich and layered in forest pine, tobacco and leather, this vineyard-designate shows a tremendous grip of tannin and generous oak. Vanilla, brown sugar and dark cherry accentuate this bolder, bigger wine.

Of the three, very expressive, Janzen 2019 single-site Cabernets, this is the most open and wholly available right now. It, too, is a weighty, fully ripe offering that does not stint on curranty fruit and sweet oak, and, though nominally tannic, its supple feel and intimations of lushness afford it a certain accessibility that marks it as a wine less demanding of protracted cellaring than its mates. That is not to say that it is one for hurried drinking, but, in this case, it should begin to approach its enjoyable best in but four or five years.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard comes from one of the greatest sites in the valley and is all varietal. Its ruby/purple color is followed by a perfumed, expressive bouquet of red and black currants, flowery incense, leather, chocolate, and baking spices. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate and nicely balanced, with velvety tannins, a round, supple mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's drinking nicely already, but I see no need to delay gratification either. Nevertheless, it should have 15 years of prime drinking.
