From the heart of Spain’s D.O. Jumilla region, Bodegas El Nido brings to the table the El Nido Wine 2021, a rich blend that captures the essence of its unique terroir. Under the expert guidance of winemaker Chris Ringland, this wine embodies the tradition and innovation that Bodegas El Nido is celebrated for.

Diving into the Essence: El Nido Wine 2021 greets you with a deep purple color, edged with a violet-bluish hue that hints at its complexity. The aroma is a delightful surprise, offering an intricate mix of blackberries and boysenberries, with whispers of tree bark, violets, and dry earth adding to its depth. The background brings a rich spice, mingled with smoky touches and the bitter sweetness of cocoa, rounded off with a hint of Havana cigars.

Taste the Difference: On the palate, El Nido Wine reveals a smooth, fresh, and profoundly deep experience. Its freshness is matched by a compact structure, boasting exceptional acidity and a luscious palate. Despite its ripe and robust body, the integration of oak is nothing short of exceptional, ensuring a balance and focus that impress. The finish is long and resonant, adorned with toasted and spicy undertones, making a two-hour decanting recommended for the optimal experience.

Craftsmanship in Every Bottle: The creation of El Nido Wine 2021 is a meticulous process, beginning with the careful selection of low-yielding old Monastrell and over 25-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The grapes are vinified separately, ensuring each variety’s distinct character contributes to the blend. Aging in new French and American oak barrels for 24 months adds layers of complexity and elegance, culminating in a wine that speaks volumes of its craftsmanship.

Despite having very similar parameters, like 16% alcohol, the 2021 El Nido came through as fresher and more balanced than the 2020 I tasted next to it. It has a ripe and heady nose with notes of violets and very ripe fruit, spice, toast and a touch of creaminess. It's full-bodied, with density and pungent flavors that are very persistent. The quality of the tannins also feels different, more elegant here.

    Chris Ringland

Chris Ringland, the acclaimed winemaker, embarked on his vinous journey with a humble home winemaking experiment in Auckland, New Zealand, during his teenage years. This fascination with winemaking led him to pursue an Oenology science degree in Australia at the University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Agricultural College. After graduating in 1982, Ringland gained winemaking experience in New Zealand and California before serendipitously returning to Australia's Barossa Valley in 1986. His talent caught the eye of Robert O’Callaghan, leading to an 18-vintage stint at Rockford Wines. In 1989, he launched his own project, Three Rivers Shiraz, later becoming Chris Ringland Shiraz. Exceptional reviews, notably from Robert Parker, catapulted his label to international stardom. This success... More Products
